If we really want him we'll get him. No chance a League 1 club can stop a (top 10) PL club snapping up a player. If the 3M bid is accurate I think that does it, that's a really good bid for a league 1 centre-half. Makes sense from our perspective as the way he's described makes him sound ideal for the RCB, he's cheap, young and will have huge sell on value if he reaches his potential at the highest level. From his perspective, he'd be moving to a Prem club who have a chance of playing european football next season, he'd receive a big pay rise and he'd be playing for a team that play a style that would suit him to the ground. Think this one gets done if we are serious.
 

This could be a very exciting signing indeed. I cannot wait to see how CWAK develop young up and coming players. I really feel that this ticks every box in the kind of signings we should be making, and all the better for getting them in nice and early so we can blood them in through the 20/21 pre-season, FA Cup ties and europa league qualifiers (lol)

I think their hatred of us started back then. Memories fading but I think Simon Tracey was sent off in that game.

This lad will be used to the system, but given he has only played at L1 level for this season, it's a gamble.

He’ll be used to their system - the reality is nobody else plays our exact system. Their very recent change in formation at least makes it more similar to ours, but he won’t be playing in a system at Ipswich where there’s fluid rotation between centre-back, wingback and midfielder down each side. From what I can see he has the sort of attributes that we’re looking for though. But whether he can make the step up and whether he can adapt to our system are two unknowns. It is a gamble. But for the price we’d likely pay, and the trickiness we’ve had in finding genuine competition for this position, it seems a small one. If Wilder thinks it’s a gamble worth taking then that’s good enough for me.

Benjamin bloom commented that they use the overlapping CB’s but they basically just bomb on, not much interchanging of positions or passing rotations with the wingback/forwards, it’s get round or inside the wingback and go!

Not a million miles away from us but less technical I reckon and not as much emphasis on the overload in the final third to get the cross in!
 
Be interesting to see if he plays for them away at Oxford tonight. If something is imminent youd assume Beattie flu might be going around in tractor land
 
If we are going with the realistic option of loaning him back then we would be happy for him to play anyway.
 
he’ll ultimately be Basham’s replacement. Basham will be Jagielka’s replacement in a couple of seasons.

Great succession planning and squad enhancement shown with these links.

In come potentially a Belgium international, a promising young big lad getting plaudits at the top of League One and out goes in all likelihood, Keen Bryan after Stearman. It still leaves us with either Jags staying ona final year or Rodwell making a success of it to complete a higher level of backline competition.

Competition for Lunny and it's been a good window.

As we've seen McBurnie in the no 10 role do quite well in the West Ham game, I'd be inclined to not jump into a striker purchase. Him and Mousset must be worth a few games together and they are our most likely goal scorers. Didzy brings calmness to the tram and can continue to do so when starting or from the bench. He doesn't need replacing yet, perhaps some forward planning with Eze, Bowen or Watkins in the summer. For me Robbo has been useful from the bench like vs Man U though not yet a reliable starter so unless a great deal came along then I'd be keeping Billy this January. Focus on one more midfielder and improving the defensive options.

Needs to realign his expectations. Something's going to need to pay for that new, long contract of his.
 
That comment shows why Lambert has gradually slipped down the managerial ladder and wilder has climbed it.

Wilder saw the long term benefits of selling young talent (Che, Brooks, DCL) in order to enhance the squad and improve the team. Lambert is a short term manager.

We know from experience that if we want it to happen, this deal will happen and Lambert has zero say in the matter

Their chairman will release a statement saying when a big PL team come knocking we can’t stop him leaving
 
I don't remember many defenders without any experience at at least Championship level moving for much for than £2-3m.

Harry Maguire had played 100 games & scooped our POTY award 3 seasons running & we only got £2m whilst in League 1.

Maybe with current market inflation they might get £3- 3.5m, but if Lambert thinks they can get circa £6m he's dreaming. I wonder if they'd contemplate taking any of our lads in exchange - Leon Clarke, Ravel Morrison, Kean Bryan, Ricky Holmes etc. all have decent League 1 experience.

I've got the same feeling for Rodwell as I have for Morrison. He's a "lucky-dip" character. You might open it and get a prize or you might get a load of nothing. I don't think you can build a team around players like Rodwell and Morrison. You can take a punt on them and hope they might come good, but it would be a brave or stupid manager to think they can be relied upon to come good. And Wilder may be brave, but he isn't stupid. So don't think for one minute that signing Rodwell will prevent us from signing others who play in a similar position. Especially good young ones who are desperate to build a career. I'd prefer those type of players anyday to old ones who are trying to resurrect a career.

Completely agree. At the moment, Rodwell is a low-risk punt. The risk only comes if you bank on him to be a key member of your squad.

With the greatest of respect, nothing at all like Stearman. Stearman was our second biggest signing (in terms of fees) in the summer of 2017 and I have no doubt that Wilder expected him to be the bedrock at the centre of the defence.

Rodwell is backup to our most durable player (Basham). He's on a short-term contract and it'll be a pleasant surprise to all concerned if he's here next season.

I was being a bit controversial BB and sticking up for Rodwell. I think he’s a bit better than a ‘punt’. Quality if he can refind his best. ;)
 

Take what Lambert says with a pinch of salt, their Chairman, (like McCabe) is not known for holding out for top dollar, especially if the lad and his agent start pushing for a move...
