Apologies, badly worded - I meant re; Carruthers signing for Cambridge as he’d been released (by mutual consent, ie paid up) and needed a club!

I haven't seen any evidence either way that he wants to play football. I was answering Swiss when he said that he felt sorry for the lad and I said I haven't seen any evidence that he wants to play football either

Fair enough 😀. I see it as a positive thing that we've 'outgrown' Ricky Holmes because of our dramatic rise. If we had stagnated he would have played a major role, provided he wasn't injured. We should be glad that we've done so well, a small cost of that is that Holmes is still on our books. He has played a minor role in our rise and we should do right by him. 👍

Sad history of injury and long lay offs be gone in May when contract expires unless a compromise deal is cut beforehand to release him early

Who do people realistically think Wilder was talking about here last July if not Holmes? Thomas had already agreed a loan at that stage. We had on the list then Clarke, Wright, Evans, Heneghan, Holmes, and Carruthers. Clarke and Wright have always been put up as top professionals by Wilder, and Clarke wouldn’t have been kept in the group had this applied to him. Heneghan he separately said had played plenty of football and didn’t seem concerned about heading back. Much as I thought the Evans signing an utter waste of time, he has come across as someone desperate for football and I doubt on reflection that this therefore applied to him.

“I’ve looked after a couple of them” – there’s only two left on the list. Carruthers, given a long contract, and Holmes, who he had at a previous club. The signing of Holmes always seemed a bit of a weird one – we originally thought he’d be an alternative to Duffy, and by the time we went back to get him Brooks had emerged as an option there, plus with the Evans/Leonard signings we’d started to test out the flat 3 a bit more in occasional games. We’d to some extent already moved on at that stage, and to get Holmes in with that backdrop on a long-term deal was always a puzzler. He was one of the better ones of a bad bunch at Wolves, but then looked poor when introduced off the bench afterwards. He then seemed frozen out thereafter.

It would, but perhaps Carruthers felt more confident of getting a club afterwards. Holmes may feel, at his age with his injury record and a newborn child, he won’t get fixed up immediately, which is understandable

Carruthers had already lined up Cambridge before he took the payoff.
 
In hindsight we should’ve gone for Bradley Dack or even Marcus Maddison instead

Not sure bringing Leon into it is very fair. This season he’s played for us in both Cups and the Premier Lg. Still a member of the 25 man Prem squad, as things stand.

I understand your point, however he was on loan at Wigan for the 2nd half of last season and someone I can only guess (can't provide any proof) that Wilder was keen to leave this summer. Yes he has played but has Kean Bryan played more.

What’s the honourable thing to do when a club has signed a Fixed term contract with a player agreeing terms and conditions? It’s not like either party insists on having a notice period.

Working for an Italian company you see lots more politics. I know guys who’ve pissed off someone with clout and they’ve literally had to go back to hq and sit in an office for the remainder of their career, with a spurious job title, no real responsibility except to turn in everyday. They take it because they have loyalty to the company and they have a pension.
 
Yes I would assume if he is not fit to play, will just see out his contract to June, take the money and then either retire or try and get fit (if he can) and look for a new club next season
He is one of a number of players we brought into the club 2/3 years ago who have been left behind with our progress. Most of this bunch are out of contract this summer, will free up loads of wages budget going forward

I have no issues with Holmes getting his money, my issue is IF he is fit move clubs and we will pay the difference. Not sure where I have said that we should sack him without pay. I kind of have a few more brain cells than that.
 
1.20am in the morning and THIS is what you were thinking of with Sheffield United flying high in the Premier league? Whatever he is on is a drop in the ocean its hardly a major issue. We'll be signing players on a lot more than him who won't play much if at all.
 
I see people keep mentioning his injuries as an excuse, what is his injury?

No I wasn’t suggesting that you’d said that.

What I’ve been trying to say is that whilst he’s been out on loan it’s not worked out for him and in addition, any move has to work for him

I don’t think it’s always important if the current club sweetens then deal. If the move isn’t right, it isn’t right

It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to play football.

He had a back injury last season that caused his loans with first Oxford then Gillingham to be cut short. But we haven’t heard about that since, and didn’t stop the implied comment from Wilder last summer.

I’m with Wilder on this, the twat should be looking for a club after Wilder helped him out whilst at the same time I can see why he wouldn’t, he’s never going to get this money again and that is partly Wilders fault.

It’s a catch 22 really for Wilder as he employed him but I don’t think he’ll lose any sleep over it.
