I was gonna say, I hope he didn't play in the match I watched when Ipswich played against Wycombe, cos they all looked terrible.......but I just checked and he did play in that game.

Ok on iPad. Ok on laptop. Fkin useless on phone posting links

Fits the bill for us. I haven’t seen him play so cannot comment but seems to be the type we like.

One for the future but certainly not first team

Only 21 years of age playing regularly in a promotion chasing league one side.

Can't see him being one for the first team straight away but as we know with Harry Maguire, young league one talent can prove to be a good market to be shopping in.

Signed him on FIFA last year and he isn’t too bad this year:

It said on Quest yesterday that Ipswich have started playing our system of overlapping centre halves. He'll be used to the system.

Buy and loan back. It’s what big clubs do

Aye that would suit both parties at the minute.

Then in the summer see if he’s good enough to have around in the PL, or loan to a Championship side for the season if not.

Another one I'd be looking at in league 1 would be luke Matheson the 17 year old at Rochdale. Can play right back or midfield so wing back wouldn't be a stretch for him and I can't see dale being able to hold out for mega money.

I think some of you lads are missing the point. Wilder sees it important to strengthen across the back line, at centre back and right back, and we need a player who could be ready to play NOW not in a few years time. The likes of O'Connell, Basham and Egan are doing a fantastic job, but it only takes an injury or suspension to one of them and we are all of a sudden looking very light in that department. We are half way through the season and others have said that its taking its toll on those three who have just about been ever-presents in the team. At some point you need to be able to mix it up a bit, give players a breather, and blood other players so that they can fit into the role seamlessly when needed. We just don't have that kind of depth at the moment within the squad - so be in no doubt, we are looking for players who are ready to play now.

This lad from Ipswich isn't a household name of course, but apparently he's taking Ipswich by storm from what I've read, but also from what I've heard first-hand from a mate who is an Ipswich fan. He's only a young kid, but he's built like a brick shithouse, 6'4" tall and he's not just defending but also creating chances for the team all over the field of play. Sounds absolutely great to me and I hope we sign him. If so, you'll be seeing in our first team in the second half of this season.

Ipswich are close to agreeing a loan deal for a young Everton defender, Gibson, by all accounts.
Replacement for Woolfenden??

Lewis Gibson? He was highly tipped to break through this season after an encouraging preseason, hasn’t happened and his contract’s up in the summer. He had been picked up from Newcastle’s academy and there was talk he might be heading back there. He’s a left-footed centre-back that can play left back. In fact I nearly suggested in the suggestions thread he might be worth a look himself if available to buy...

I believe that's who they've gone for?
So Woolfenden could be a goer???

I’m not sure. He’s right-footed, and given Rodwell is here as a Basham understudy I’d be surprised if we get another one in if we’re intending to keep Rodwell past this season. He’s also 6’4, and if he’s not the most mobile makes it even stranger as a RCB option.

So if he signs, I reckon it’s as a long-term back up to Egan once Jagielka retires (presumably) in the summer. We’ve perhaps seen an opportunity to move quickly to sort that out now rather than look in the summer.

Lets get them both!

Well he has the profile it seems. Seems like it could be a good signing

Rodwell isn't here to understudy Bash, Wilder said he would play midfield role, and that's where he played v FYLDE??

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the Fylde game then or listen to Wilder’s interview after it...

Wilder describes him as a central midfielder that can play defence, which was why he played RCB in that game. We signed another player predominantly a central midfielder that could play defence a few years ago. He’s our current RCB.

The right conversation to be having...

"You ok playing against Stockbridge, Hallam and a couple of early round cup games, lad?"
"Yeah but I'd be here to fight for a place in the first team"
"Great attitude, I like to see that. Probably be out on loan to be honest"

Friend of the club Benjamin Bloom goes into the Woolfenden transfer rumour on the Blue Monday Podcast. Discussion at 4.45 on the Lewis Gibson link, which at 7.30 goes into Woolfenden’s possible exit. Suggestion seems to be that they’d want £4-5m, but accept £2m with a loan back.

Interestingly he sets up the first goal for Ipswich with a very JOC-esque overlapping run down the left from LCB. Excellent late run, well picked out, cuts it back with his left for a tap-in.

Looks like it’s cover for JOC to replace Bryan. But, and as pointed out by Bloom, he’s not left-footed! And we know Wilder insists on that for this position. Perhaps Woolfenden is equally comfortable with both feet. Which as a backup centre-half would be pretty useful to cover both Basham and JOC...
