The amount of negative comments on this forum is not far from being abusive behaviour by some on here. That 11 train day in day out no amount of training gives you match sharpness and the ability to play at there best. So many people on here think they understand the game but they obviously don't everyone is entitled to an opinion because the fans pay there wages . If the first 11 was not playing every week and just training every day they to would look like the 2nd string team to a certain extent so stop being thickle and support all the players in the same way

Agree MCFC....why does everything have to be so binary......a player is either great or he’s shit.

Whats wrong with having squad players not good enough to start but ready to fill in when needed.
I still think back to Crainie and Stearman....always looked poor in the cups....but when ever they played in the 1st team they looked like regular starters..really good players. Also you had players like Kieran Dowell...talented lad...but his effectiveness was all over the place.

He was capable of looking really poor one game....you‘d be tempted to write him off.
Then next game he was brilliant and looked a star player.....best lesson is to never write anyone off after so few games and appreciate our players.

By definition a back up player isn’t going to be as good as a regular 1st teamer....however it’s their character and how their presence in training effects the other players thats so important....I believe personality and character is actually more important for a squad player and only Wilder will know this info.

Totally agree MCFC Blade, got to give you a like for "thickle" though, magic.

I think some fans imagine that the team that played yesterday have regular games against the 1st team or something, but it was essentially a team of strangers in terms of how often they play together as a team. That is why it is virtually impossible to pass & move around at the same pace we are used to seeing, no problem when only a couple of players are put in but the whole team is a different kettle of fish.

I think a lot of people understand that the odd 1 or 2 in the team doesn't hurt, put 11 of them together though and they struggle.

You only have to look at international teams to see a good example of this happening with much better players. I said yesterday that if we'd have played 4-4-2 we probably would have done better, asking the second string to play our first team system was never going to look as good as the first team doing the same.

It appears that some don’t understand it, or they’re deliberately refusing to understand it to cause mischief. Of course, Wilder did explain it very clearly in his post match interview.

I don't have a problem with showboating. My issue with him yesterday was that all we got was showboating. He didn't get stuck in when the basics were needed. His all round game was off. But then, so was just about everyone on the pitch, which is why it would be harsh to single him out.

At some point they will learn... No idea when, but they will. I don't remember a single time one of our second teams under Wilder has played particularly well, doesn't seem to be affecting things too much.

That’s a good reason for having a competitive reserves league I think.

I also think the criticism of many of those second string players is justified though. In some ways it’s not entirely their fault. The club has progressed faster than the players within it. So we have a lot of players who are not of the required standard to provide strong competition to the first 11. They might have been if we’d still been a League 1 or Championship side, but we aren’t. And they are trailing in the wake of our success. That’s the reality.
