Nothing in that article suggests that he's available on a transfer (other than the fact that Ings is ahead of him in the team, which is hardly news). It says that Southampton don't want to lose him but would be prepared to consider loaning him out if he pushes for it, because that may be better for his long-term future at Southampton.

Given the amount of stick Robinson has had on here, signing someone who has worse stats in the Premier League this season than him seems a strange suggestion. If we'd signed Adams in the summer and he performed as well as he has at Soton half this forum would want shut of him.

On this occasion, I'm not basing my assessment on stats. I've seen enough of both players to know what each does & does not offer.

Adams should have scored a couple in front of the Kop earlier this season.

It might have all gone very differently for him if he did.

Not someone to write off.

Fuck Adams, he wanted out, I was happy he went, total prick.

You're absolutely spot on mate. Some on here have unrealistic expectations that every player should/will hit the ground running and immediately slot seemlessly into the team.

While I can appreciate this view if we're talking about an experienced prem player (they'd still take time to learn the system), expecting foreign imports or Championship recruits to do so is frankly stupid. I fear if we signed Che he might take a while to get going, causing some idiots to get on his back which would further dent his confidence.

I wasn't a fan of how Che left either & I suspect Wilder must not be a fan either judging by his lack of interest in the Summer. However, he is a young English talent, knows the club, local(ish) lad, can play up on his own, or in a pair, can play with both feet, & as previously mentioned is direct, fast & powerful.

I think himself & Mousset together would be frightening, but as a minimum I think he'd be a significant upgrade on Robinson & Sharp as an option from the bench.

He scored 22 in the Championship last season in a midtable side. The ability is definitely there.

He lacks the intelligence to play the McGoldrick role, but he can pick up the ball between the lines & drive with it. I'm not sure we have many players with that sort of ability.

I was genuinely surprised his price tag was only £15m in the Summer judging by some of the going rates for players. If his value is still around that mark he'd be a bargain in my opinion.

I would have thought that Adams was pretty similar to the Moose, although better in the air I would have thought. Pace and power is what I'm referring to as similar traits. I would rather us sign someone who can link play well, be a able to take his man on if possible. I'm referring to an upgrade on McGoldrick essentially, or someone who can learn from McGoldrick in the essential role he plays. I'm not saying we should ditch Didzy, he's been amazing but I would like someone who can succeed him; for next season primarily.

Eberechi Eze has a lot of the McGoldrick traits, I'm just not sure that he would be as willing a runner, or determined enough to put in the defensive shift.

Adams would be an upgrade on all of our bench options & provide competition / cover for Mousset. Think as a pairing they could also be frightening in games where we're not expecting to see much of the ball. I think Che possesses all of the traits I hoped Robinson would.

Fair point re Robinson and Adams comparison. I think Eze would be a great signing actually but not sure QPR would sell to us for the fee we might be able to afford, unless we offer Freeman as part of the deal maybe.

Robinson has never had the strength that Adams has to be honest but he has a decent finish and can create in his time at Preston. I think he's probably suffered from the good form of Mousset has possibly made it harder for Robinson to find a space, as McBurnie and McGoldrick offer a larger alternative than Robinson does to Mousset.

Adams would be a good shout imo hes also used to the noise that we generate where many tipped great players fail, I don't hear that gets mentioned much, but many imo turn to butter when the lane is in full voice and big things are expected of em from the off.

Given the chances this team creates, I think Adams would easily get 10 to 12 goals in the half season we’ve got left.

I've been far from convinced with Robinson so far, but I also think we've played him out of position, whilst also asking him to step up a division. There is a player in there, we saw as much at PNE. To let him go would be a waste, but to help him be effective would mean a change in system.

Freeman is the one for me, that I'm really lamenting not using to his full potential so far. He's the one Championship player I've wanted us to sign for years and now we have him, he's barely getting a sniff and now there's even the slightest murmurings of a swap deal - he would've been scantily used! He was the most like for like replacement for Duffy that we could've found and we should at some point give the system that got us to this level a go, at this level.

For example, I'd have used it to change things up at Anfield, when we had nothing to lose.

I wouldn't have the jug-eared never-pass high wages twat back at the Lane for 11.2k, let alone million.

Apologies if I have expressed similar sentiments before

What has Adam's done at Southampton to make anyone think he's better than what we've got right now?

He bagged one less than Billy last season, often playing up on his own in a mediocre Birmingham team. He scored a wide variety of goals & this season is being kept out at Southampton only by Danny Ings (2nd or 3rd top scorer in the league).
