Sheffield Wednesday 1 - 2 Sheffield United

What a day! The sun was out and the Lion of Hillsborough was on the prowl!

Oh for an equally good day in a couple of weeks!

Reading the second paragraph:

'The second-half double from the Blades strikers ended a run of three successive defeats for Neil Warnock's side, who refuse to give up on their First Division play-off dream.'

Not much changes around here?

In fact the last paragraph is spooky as well:

'Wednesday still need one more victory to guarantee their safety, while United are now five points adrift of the play-off zone'

Except that the team was ours, not borrowed.

We had a team made up of frees and a striker that cost us £92,500 and I tell thee what, we were proud as punch of them lads that fine day in S6!

We were proud of them all the time, because they were Blades. They played with spirit, a little bit of method and were committed to the cause. I would have those days back tomorrow :(

Got to be impressed with the crowd that day, makes victory all the sweeter for me. A truly sensational day. I'm assuming crowd will be well under 30k this time and although we can laugh at that I don't think it reflects well on Sheffield football and the size of the game.

I was there in the North stand with my piggy supporting uncle. Tickets had sold out quickly for us Blades and it was the only chance i had of seeing the game. I could not believe how many Blades had bought tickets in the north stand. There had to be a cordon of riot police from the top to the bottom of the stand to separate the fans.We were in great voice that day. The game was great to watch until i bought the video of it and thought what a shit match that was.

Any photos anywhere as I was on the front row in the corner, must be on a snap somewhere?

^ That's why I hate Derbies. I look like that the entire preceding week.

Look at those nervous faces!

I'm towards the back of that one, great photo.

Feels like it was only yesterday, I can rememeber everything from that day, from walking the dog, to what i watched on TV and what I had to breakfast to recreating Jaffo's wonder strike in the back garden bout 8pm. Probably my happiest day to be a Blade that day.

I loved the fact that for the following season Radio Sheffield used Paul Walker's 'Leppings Lane explodes' as their introduction for Praise or Grumble (or football heaven).

I have a ticket for the game in a few weeks time, and I echo the sentiments of posters above, it won't feel as intense or important to me as that one did.

April 1st 2001

Tracey,
Kozluk,
Ullathorne,
Murphy,
Curle,
Bullock,
Devlin,
Ford,
Ndlovu,
D'Jaffo,
Asaba.

Subs:

Suffo,
Kelly,
Uhlenbeek,
Thetis,
Montgomery.

History can keep Keith Curle, Bobby Ford and Darren Bullock but for the rest, I would take em all back in an instant.

Up The Blades

I wouldn't say Ford was any worse than his modern day equivalent, Monty. Plus he took a mean penalty.
