Manuel Pellegrini: West Ham sack manager after defeat by Leicester

Chris Wilder will have to prove himself at a “big club” before people start taking him seriously.
Any foreign players there will need to attend two very important courses.
1. English Language.
2. Plain speaking honesty.
Big clubs.. Makes my arse laugh that loads of hype in premier League keeping a load of so called pundits in the lap of luxury and also very average players who cost a lot of money who don't exactly fit the bill, unlike our Blades who have proved they belong..

Since coming to Europe 15 years ago Pellegrini managed to:
Finish 2nd in the Spanish League with Villarreal (a town with a population of 60,000) and make the semi finals of the Champions League
Finish 2nd with his one season at Real Madrid, though with 96 points, at that time a club record total
Took Malaga to 4th in the Spanish league and to the quarter finals of the Champions League
Won the Premier League with Manchester City
Then... West Ham

It's hardly been a record of continual failure

Did I say it was?

My previous comment was that it was fairly clear that he didn't give too much of a shit about the Hammers job either way, and that seemingly not knowing too much about your forthcoming opposition, comes across as being very lazy in your work. As mentioned before, he knew sod all about United before we turned up as evidenced by his pre match comments. His problem, not ours.

What he has done previously with other clubs doesn't matter a jot. It's what he's done at WHU that has got him the sack, and he's been woeful this season. To say otherwise is just nonsense. If he'd been any good...guess what... he'd still be in a job.

Apparently it’s gonna be moyseh to the end of the season.

I don’t know what I want more wet spam to be playing in the championship in that athletics stadium or Wendy to get a 21 point deduction.

Bet he's a happy bunny tonight. It's been as clear as day for a while that he wasn't overly bothered about the job and was probably quite happy to take a huge pay off for being sacked if it was to happen.

He couldn't even be bothered to properly scout United out before we played them earlier this season, and it just struck me as someone who was very lazy in their work.

Only in football can someone walk away with millions of pounds for being totally shite at their job.

No doubt he will pop up again somewhere (probably somewhere nice and warm) with another nice job and big fat pay days.

In fact I like him. He's screwed over the lovely bubbly Hammers, big time.
Wendy next 😂

How funny would it be if they appointed Garry Monk?
Nothing would surprise me with those two c*nts owning the club!

Wilder would be crazy to come to us. He's doing a fine job for you, you like him & you're having a pretty bloody good season, by all accounts.
Tbh, any good manager would be crazy to come to us, under Gold & Sullivan. They've sucked the life out of every manager they've employed here.
For that reason, I can't really say I'm bothered about who we get next, as nothing much will ever change until those 2 old poisonous wankers, sell up & go.
Merry Christmas!

I’d be staggered if you get Moyes back but Sullivan and Gold are incompetent enough to run us so you never know.

Tevez stuff aside, I feel sorry for West Ham. Lots of pals who support them and were one of my favourite London clubs before all that. Now you’re just drowning in that big bloody bowl.

When i read this thread title i just said "For Forks sake...."

Not because i think Wilder will be linked to them, but because its another club we're facing in a week or so who've just sacked their manager, so they will either have a new manager (like Watford) or a caretaker getting them motivated for the game and perhaps playing a different way.

I'd agree with that, Weasel, about West Ham but you implied something else, maybe you didn't mean it.

With regards to his comments pre-game about SUFC that's been misinterpreted, it's ridiculous to think that any professional manager is unprepared about the opposition, especially one who's lasted so long at such a high level..

When he described United as "direct" this was taken to mean as we, in our understated British way, consider teams who play Watford/Wimbledon 80s style hoofball.

But In Spanish speaking countries it just means a team who prefer move from back to front quickly. Real Madrid's style over the decades is described as "direct".

His other pre game comments were that we always play the same way, we have strong players who work hard, and we like to get the ball into the box.

I did not want to see this headline. Lets hope they for a massive name and leave us well alone.

I'm not going to have a pop at you mate because I suspect you're only a young kid with not much life experience. But let me explain something to you and I hope it may make you feel better...

The reason why people move jobs is down to a number of factors, not just money. A big one is whether they are happy in their current work, whether they feel that they are being valued and appreciated, being given the right tools to do the job and can see future prospects in it for themselves and their employers. If all those things are in place, then it's very hard to tempt someone out of such a job - even if the money is much greater.

Have a think about Wilder's situation at Sheffield United. His boyhood club. Do you think all those things are in place? I do. Add to that he's living here, in the city that he loves. Then have a look at the league table. Is there anything there to suggest his prospects or those of the football club he's managing, would be better served by going to the likes of West Ham?

I think you should relax a bit mate. Seriously. And the same goes to anyone else who gets nervous every time another Prem club sack a manager. You'd better get used to it as well. There will be many more sackings between now and the end of the season. So you're really not going to enjoy it if you are breaking into a cold sweat every time there's a managerial vacancy.

Wilder's going nowhere. At least, not whilst things are looking as good as they are for us currently. And when he does eventually move on, my guess is it will not be for another club, but for country.

I really wouldn't trouble your head for one moment about such things.

Why not pat him on the head and give him a lollipop while you are at it?

Whether or not CW would be tempted by a club dangling $$$ in front of him remains to be seen, but there's no way WHU would go for him. That was shown by them ridiculously not appinting Moyes permanently when he was there previously having done a fantastic job and saving them from the drop. Ingoring that and instead appointing Pellegrini not only cost them a huge amount of money but also showed that the owners are more interested in appointing a name.

His other pre game comments were that we always play the same way, we have strong players who work hard, and we like to get the ball into the box.

So when Pellegrini called Utd direct then, what he actually meant in his Spanish speaking misinterpretation, was that we prefer to move the ball from back to front quickly? , and that we like to get the ball in the box?

Two observations from those words of wisdom then.

Firstly, moving the ball from back to front quickly. Do we? Personally i think we dont do this as much as many other teams do, we don't play too many long balls, we mix it up, play a lot of neat and tidy football in little triangles, work it out wide when we can and try to work on overload out wide often with the wing back. Hardly getting it up front as quickly as possible. I suppose if the long ball is on and a dangerous advantage can be gained (like the long ball down the wing to Moose v Watford resulting in Flecks chance) then we take it, but none more so than any other team.

Secondly, we like to get the ball in the oppositions box...? Er, well yes I suppose we do, but then doesn't every team, because the aim of the game is to try and score goals.

Seemingly then, and taking on board your interpretation of his comments about Utd, his comments showed that he was either completely ignorant of the way we actually play and he was seeing a different team to what most of us see, or he was lazy and hadn't done his homework on us.

Either way, his pre match comments were bizarre for such a seasoned professional.

Maybe he's not lazy at all, maybe he is gutted about being sacked from WHU and having to take that big pay off for termination of service with 18 months still on his contract to go, or maybe he's not overly fussed either way. Either way he can have no complaints on his sacking.

I don't know why you're on your high horse about this? I already said it's a label that's used to describe Real Fucking Madrid.

It's not an insult, it's a fucking compliment.

It was more of an observation on our neighbours inability to keep hold of their latest messiah than a comment on West Ham's recruitment policy.

I agree with everything you've said but not the patronising tone.

Why am I on my high horse? I'm just putting forward my views on his management at WHU and I explained why I thought that. You put forward your view which was appreciated (that's how we have good debates after all) and in turn, I challenged a couple of your points around why I thought Pellegrinis views on SUFC was incorrect. That's all.

What I didn't do, was start to swear about someone else's posts or views. Only one of us is seemingly getting on their high horse here. What's up, don't you like any of your opinions being challenged? Bit of tough monkeys then if your going to go on a football forum, cos that's how it tends to roll.

So now I understand. It wasnt laziness or even naivety, on his part. It was just a 'fucking compliment'. Well that's sorted that out then.

OK.

His intepretation of "direct" will not be the same as yours.

We have strong players who work hard. Correct.
We like to get the ball from back to front quickly. Correct (that doesn't necessariliy mean a big boot)
We like to get the ball in the box Correct. We're currently fourth in the league for crosses - behind Man City, Liverpool and Everton. We're actually 14th for passes but that's neither here nor there.

In common with I would think everyone on here, I enjoy the way our side plays. Sometimes it doesn't work out and we went too long too often on Boxing Day.

Anyway, Pellegrini has been sacked.

West Ham.
Average club with delusions of grandeur.

Need to realise what they are, where they came from and make the club a representation of that.
Not a trendy, big name club full of exotic players on silly money! Their first mistake was leaving Upton Park for that running stadium. After that it was spending silly money on any old player and expecting a good manager to make it work.

Well I hope it goes tits up big time and they crash down. Twice

Nothing in there which I tend to disagree with.

And you did it without swearing too which is a bonus (and I aint a prude either coming from a pit mining village and doing over 15 years in the forces). Just don't see the need to go off on one swearing at other posters, myself. Just shows a lack of control.

But back to the point, maybe Pellegrini could have made his point more clear then as to an English football fan like myself, it came across as him being naive or lazy. Not all of us watch Spanish football or listen to Spanish football media and think 'well maybe he actually meant it this other way'. A lot of us tend to take his English comments to the English media, at face value.

We will have to agree to disagree on his comments though, and tbh, I really couldn't give a piss in the wind about WHU or the man himself.

So true.

I turned down an opportunity to double my not insignificant banking salary because I'd had enough of the industry, so instead of changing jobs I changed my location and got a job on the post for a fraction of what I was being paid by the bank.

I'm now retired but my 12 yrs on the post were the best years of my working life.

Once you have enough to live comfortably money becomes unimportant, unless you are just naturally greedy for more, and living happily and fulfilled is far more rewarding than cash in the bank.

Pellegrini has had fuckall to spend?

Hes bought 6 players over 20m...this is west ham, not fucking man city, hes had plenty to spend.

From the BBC website...

Pellegrini spent an unprecedented £170m over two summers. Felipe Anderson, Issa Diop and Pablo Fornals all cost in excess of £20m. Striker Sebastien Haller came in from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for a club record £45m. Few of the signings lived up to their billing.

But it was a free transfer that caused Pellegrini the biggest problem. Club sources said the decision to sign Roberto as back-up to Fabianski was solely down to Pellegrini and his trusted ally Mario Husillos, who was appointed on a three-year deal around the same time as the Chilean. As it turned out, Roberto - a 33-year-old former Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Espanyol goalkeeper - was terrible.

Totally. You can just imagine what was in Sully's mind. Pellegrini? Previously won the Premiership Title? We'll have him & he might do the same here for us...
It doesn't work like that.
If Wilder wants to win things in football, he won't do it by coming to us. He's fine staying with you.
