A New Year's Wish

I am never in first with a response to 'A View from...' or to confirm that a signing is confirmed, so I thought I would get in first with a wish for the New Year, with a hint of seriousness. The obvious wish for the Blades is more of the same, as things are about as good as they could be, but over the next couple of weeks we have potential problems with an 'easy' match at home, 2 brutally difficult away matches, and a Cup match which recent history suggests will be tedious, and possibly a defeat. So if all goes badly, my back-up wish would be for all of us to hold our nerve, and to have no melt-downs on here. Our first-half of the season would still have been terrific, and it is worth reminding the youngsters (those under 70), that what has been achieved the last 3 years is a once-in-a-generation success for us, and there is just a chance that something even more special could follow. So, trust in Wilder & co, enjoy the ride, and don't assume the sky has fallen in if we get a few set-backs. UTB, and enjoy the New Year.

I agree, but as Silent Blade said we have only been 5th at Christmas once since the 1920s.This isnt just a once in a generation event, more a once in a Hayley's comet orbit event!

Good post HBT and well said, I just keep the faith that this ride is going to get Wilder and Better......it is absolutely brilliant, we will have setbacks, but I think we can all step back a bit and just think of where we could have been if not for CWAK...the dynamic duo...

Historians regard 3 generations per century as a rough guide, so 1925, 1971 and 2019 will do for me.

There won’t be any meltdown from me but we better beat Man City and Liverpool by at least 2 clear goals or I won’t be happy and they can get rid of the lot of them for me

I hope for all Blades that we have plenty of reasons to be cheerful, over the Christmas period and throughout the New Year. I'm pretty confident that we will. I think we will win on Boxing Day and not lose both of the next 2 games after that. And that would be good enough for me at this stage.

My New Year's wish is that Wilder is able to strengthen the team in January. If he does then I don't see anything derailing our current progress and a top 6 finish is on. If he doesn't and we get hit with injuries or suspensions, I think we'll finish in or around the position that I predicted before the season started, about 12th. And that would feel like an anti-climax now, but it would still represent sound progress.

My other New Year's wish is that the ownership issues are sorted out. I don't know if this timescale is realistic, but one way or the other, this has to be resolved in 2020. Princey has to stump up for all the houses and a hotel on this "Mayfair" part of Sheffield. He will not be allowed to pass go and collect his £200 if he doesn't. Meanwhile, McCabe is playing his "Chance" card and hoping to have the whole thing overruled again. Has Princey got the dosh to buy t' job lot? And by that I don't mean, can he use this season's TV money, I mean, has he got the dosh, aside from that? Because if he hasn't and he has to spend this years TV revenues to buy out the club, then we could be in for a lean summer of recruitment, and that could impact negatively on next season's efforts. It may all seem a bit of a long way off, but we are talking about 2020 after all and this, to me, is going to be one of the critical things about it. Can we resolve the ownership of the club one way or the other and focus on football matters on the field? If we can then I think we could start to build out a very secure Premiership future for our club - and that's what I want to see us doing more than anything else.
