Pay the fee KV Mechelen want and there you go. I'm sure they'd settle for a couple of mill tops, they just want a fee.

He's decent, has enormous hands, and is young.

Definitely need better in the backup keeper position.

That makes sense, I don’t think we’re far off really and it’s interesting that when he’s talked before he’s said we’re light in a couple of positions, so perhaps we’re after back up rather than immediate first teamers.

Very sensible approach as ever to evolve the Squad rather than replace. Bringing a couple in now really strengthens the depth of the squad.

I've never understood that.

For the same reason we signed players like Cranie and Dowell last season. Not as good as Basham or Duffy, but still made huge contributions when the first choice were unavailable and were better than the back-ups we had previously. Football is a squad game and we will need them over the course of a season. (Especially for our Europa League campaign next year )

I don't think I've ever heard him give a poor interview.

Nearly every game for 3 1/2 years I turn on the radio and win lose or draw he pretty much calls the game I've just seen.

It probably helps that overall I've been watching the best football I've seen the blades play in over 40 years but still... plenty of good managers have talked a lot of shit in their time

Yeah that'd be the ideal but if the current position fillers keep up their levels, he'd be waiting for Summer to stake his claim you'd imagine. As you say though, might just be keeping Bash and George on their toes.

Not necessarily. He's a free agent. He may have just been offered 40k a week to go & play somewhere else. He'd be foolish not to at least use his contractual position as leverage to get the best possible deal for him & his family.

looking at our summer signings how many were signed as backup versus signed to fight for a 1st team slot

Henderson = compete
Verrips = backup
Osborne = backup
Jags = backup
Besic = compete, but can't get in
Ravel = gamble, unknown quantity
Freeman = compete, but can't get in
Mousset = Compete & claimed a shirt
McBurnie= compete, but can't get in
Robinson= compete, but can't get in

We are so much stronger as a squad but Mousset is the only new signing to grab a shirt.

2 or 3 more to compete or take a shirt would be great

financially I agree but a lot of these players need to think about their role in the system and how that works for them

Duffy has gone from an integral 1st team player in a top championship team to unable to get on the bench in team fighting to survive

Clearly Lundstrum has been the major surprise of the season considering he hardly featured last season.
And although he perhaps owes his manager for how well he’s doing he will still want the best deal he can get. Does that mean he should be the highest earner at the club? Absolutely not.
On a par? Probably not...I would still want to see him maintain his level for the season.

So he gets a deal with a sliding increase. Take it or leave it.
If it’s a leave it, then we get the best deal we can for him in January and we find a replacement.
Although he’s been good, I don’t see him as integral to the club as Norwood and Fleck.

Be down to Lunny....stay where you’re on the up, get paid £20-25k a week....or risk losing that progression and head to a new club for at best £30-40k a week.
For me a no brainer, a three year deal earning at least £3m to stay when you have at least another three year deal to come after that is the answer. Plus of course if you progress even more and dare I say start pushing for the England squad you could still get more pay rises and bigger transfers.
Let’s hope the lad isn’t too influenced by his agent, and has his head screwed on

Casting his net further afield is now a distinct possibility, especially with our limited budget

The overseas players we now have, had already proven themselves in the English leagues. Bringing an overseas player in is more of a gamble, but obviously it's all part of the game these days
