Eighth, and still they look for negatives....fucking stroll on

Just putting out a hypothetical situation. If there was a glaring negative right in front of your nose, would it be wrong to point it out even though you hadn't gone looking for it?

Time to take things to a new level and start complaining about people complaining about people complaining. Keef may turn out to be right, may turn out to be wrong. If he's right, he can choose to be smug and become a bore, or give it a shrug and move on. If he's wrong, I'm sure he'll be absolutely delighted. But telling someone to stroll on because they have an opinion about something gets on my tits even more than Dronnie banging on about McBurnie.

Always been in the optimistic/happy clapper camp, but as I don't live in the UK and very rarely got to see the Blades over the past years, I appreciate getting a balance of opinions here on the forum, hearing about what people like in the team as well as hearing where they think there are problems/improvements possible. It's easy enough to filter out the better informed posts from the not so well-informed.

He's a body up front, you simply have to give him that.

Which is something I’ve actually never seen Mousett not do. He chases everything and seems gutted when he can’t catch or create something from a through ball.
Which is why Mousset is knackered after an hour.

Energy management is as much a skill as kicking the ball. You have to be able to judge when to chase and when the odds of getting anything from it are so long that you're better conserving some energy for a better moment.

Define ‘wrong’. Do I have a moral obligation to point out a negative? No, unless I was the manager because then it would actually be my job and my responsibility.

My wife was born on Shoreham Street but has little football knowledge. Having said that I dare not repeat what she said about Robinson. :)
Maybe given time he will shape up, but he does need a rocket up his ass.
How big??????

Yes completely get that, but Wilders approach to how we set up is give everything on the pitch while you’re on it. Which for me Robinson isn’t doing.

Hmm. If I could define wrong, I'd have a Nobel prize or something. Socrates believed that there were objective moral standards; that they could be discovered; that there were right and wrong answers to moral questions that went beyond mere opinion and popular sentiment, but he wouldn't be able to help out here.

Perhaps this needs moving to the philosophical forum, but in the case here, is it right that someone is told to 'fucking stroll on' because they pointed out what they believe is a very visible problem? There is clearly no moral obligation for anyone to say anything on this forum, either positive or negative, but nobody is telling people to jog on because they believed Enda Stevens is doing a great job. It is clearly also neither your, nor my, job or responsibility to talk about the positives like being delighted at our current position.

Praise is rarely hurtful though. Criticism often is, so should be used more carefully.

You're going to have to go through the rules of this forum with me...
If we're doing well then we can't point out that one of our players is absolutely sub standard?
So when we lose are we allowed to mention that players are doing well?

Next time he wins some minutes, just watch what he does to 'chase' a long pass... He'll start off running in the complete wrong direction before going towards the ball. That's to ensure he doesn't actually get near the ball but does make it look like he's trying. Same scenario when it comes to closing and opponent down. He makes sure he arrives just after the event.

Hahaha!
Really? Serious?

It's a fucking football forum to talk about United. I think it includes talking about the players too.
What the fuck's up with people? Should we all just get in a circle and wank ourselves silly because we're in a decent league position?

Firstly, thanks for your candour - to explain my dislike of negativity, I should explain that my working life consisted of forty+ years in sales and marketing, where negativity is slow and painful death. When I read the same old suspects trotting out the same old trolling rubbish about my team and it’s players, then stroll on is not the first phrase that comes readily to mind, but if it gets on your tits, I apologise, and I’ll think of something else from now on!

Like you, I’m a bottle half full man, and when I see the team that Chris and Alan have built here used as a piss take, then I’m not going to back off an inch, which is where your balance of opinions comes from - the players have been absolutely magnificent in the last 2/3 years, and some of the comments, particularly on shoutbox, have been moronic to say the least, JL being a prime example.

I appreciate your approach, and will concede that you are right in many respects, but please allow your balance of opinions to stretch to an occasional rant from a Blade of 60+ years - I’ll try to keep off your tits in the meantime!

Regards,
George

I did try talking about football to you but I got a facetious reply.

You know how people always talk about giving foreign players "a year" to acclimatise to the prem? Maybe we should do the same with domestic players from lower leagues also. And also give them time to fit into a very niche and unique system.

Tell me what I'm saying that's wrong? Tell me why I shouldn't discuss a United player's shortcomings on a United forum. What attributes am I not seeing. Genuinely interested.
Strange in Pre season everyone was saying he was the dogs bollocks. Like everyone else he is making the step up a level and not only that he is still new to the way we play as is McBurnie, Luke Freeman etc yet some numpties want to write then off after 3-4 starts ............................. only in S2 eh.

Yeah, he was fucking mega against Chesterfield and Barnsley.... Only in S2 indeed

Keef, firstly #72 is not aimed at you..
Not rules really, more considered opinion, I can’t believe that the main thought in your mind when we’re eighth and playing well is that Robinson is sub standard - Didzy is having a mare in front of goal, but should be in the first three on every team sheet CW writes. There are always things to go wrong, shit happens....

Robinson mcburnie and freeman will never be able to show there full potential while there sat on the bench.

They have all looked good in patches but there’s not much they can do sat on the bench .

Stop looking for scapegoats u morons

You're a good man gbs.

Robinson is not the main thought in my mind, honestly. Just standing my ground, probably over the top to be fair but it's my opinion and you reasonable fuckers are not going to change it ;). He won't play much anyway I wouldn't have thought.

Just to put another spin on it they all had full chances in the two cup matches to show Wilder what they are capable of and the whole team playing bar the odd one looked like League 1 players.

If it was me and I wanted to impress that was the stage to do so and they didnt. It was the perfect platform. Another very easy match is coming up in the FA Cup too so being positive I hope the players trying to break into a regular spot take up the mantle.

I did feel for Robinson yesterday when McGoldrick missed that golden opportunity on the left Robinson was arguably in a better position for the pass. Would have been interesting to see what he would have done. I watched him in the International highlights and he did look one of the best players and took his goal well.

I don’t want to write him off yet, but he seems to struggle with anything that requires physicality. I can’t remember him making any tackles or challenging for a 50/50 header, he’s a bit like David Cotterill in these aspects of the game.

The thing that really pissed me off was in the Leicester game, it was really sunny and a long ball was played to him as we were attacking the kop, it was his ball to flick on around the centre circle. Just as he was about to jump he looked into the sun and just turned away and did nothing, the ball went straight to their centre half, it was infuriating as we were 1-0 down at the time and chasing the game.

No idea what’s going on with him, but there’s something missing at the moment. I do realise that the Leicester incident was a while back, it was just something that stuck with me.

Think back to the Man U game and ask yourself this;

Would we have scored that first goal vs. Man Utd if it was Robinson closing Jones down instead of Mousset ?

Contrary to that, would we have made it 3-3 without his outstanding footwork for the equaliser?

The point I am making is not to discredit his touch / footwork. Robinson is clearly playing with a lack of conviction - yards off the pace, releases the ball asap and most annoyingly slows his runs down when closing defenders down. Compare that to Mousset who is always showing for the ball, attempting to run at defenders and, as proven Vs Man Utd, isn't scared of chasing loose balls.

I don't doubt Robinson has all the attributes to be a good player, he's shown moments of quality but his lack of desire is frustrating to watch.

Fair point but if we're comparing Robinson and Mousset, Robinson wouldn't have had the run and finish that Mousset had for our second. Which brings me to another point...

Why does Robinson have to fuck about kicking in to the net during pre match/half time warm ups while everyone else is warming up properly? He often kicks at the goal when there's ground staff, goalkeepers or people setting up cameras. Just a good job he misses most of the time. Proper gets on my tits.

To be fair, had Didzy got his head up and squared the ball on both of his chances in the second half, Robinson gets 2 tap-ins.

He's a different player to Moose so comparing them is a bit harsh IMO. Let's not forget that he's also a natural winger playing in a side that don't employ wingers in their set-up.

Let’s not forget either that he’s a honey badger who has learned to stand upright and run on two legs and play football. He’s doing well as far as I’m concerned.

You're clearly supporting with a lack of conviction

I think his time to prove he's worth a shirt is now, this season. He'll need to do much better than he's done so far I'm afraid. I thought he looked great pre season, but he just isn't imposing himself on the game since then. He'll be gone in summer if not.
