Wasn't just Deano that stopped, the whole defence did. If Linesman are going to put up a flag only to be ruled on VAR what's the point in having them?

Almost certain. It’s just the lack of consistency. VAR should never have been brought in without clear guidelines of the rules. One referee shouldn’t be making a different decision in one game to another. It’s actually killing the game.

That's the main problem. Nobody knows whats happening regarding VAR, whenever something happens everyone looks confused, it wasn't thoroughly tested, the VAR at the WC is not what VAR we have in the PL.

the WC VAR was good, not great, but the PL VAR is bad.

When Shelvey kept (half) running, I thought, 'don't let him put the ball in the net', as soon as he did, I knew we were fucked because I'd seen there was no offside. The job of our lads is to do their job. For Hendo, that means topping any ball going across the goal line into our net and not tripping up any opposition players (particularly if in the area).

And then who cares who has a flag or a whistle?

My issue is with everyone acknowledged the linesman as though he was correct.

If it was just not playing to the whistle then fair enough, but it's everyone's acceptance and then that being overruled.

The linesman has affected the game as much as if he'd run on and cockslapped Henderson.

The agreement was that linesman would keep flag down if a very tight position and VAR would decide. This was indeed a tight position but by the linesman flagging everyone stopped. Shit system get rid!!!!

Maybe, but don't get rid of the ref's whistle...cos that's actually the single element that starts and stops play. Our team would do well to reflect on that tonight. Lino's may be in jeopardy but without the ref's whistle we would be fucked.

Where to start

At Wolves the ref is stood with his arm up. The potential to eek away a few more seconds inviting the striker on to continue, was the reason for that particular bit of keeping. Although it still went to VAR so what the fuck could have happened who knows.

Tonight. We’re 1-0 down. The rest of the team have stopped. Does he want to be dancing round with Shelvey when we need the ball back. That said, as soon as he sees the ref running forward with Shelley, you’d think, he’s playing on.

It’s difficult to adjust to the new laws. These are lads that have been playing football for 15-25 years where a Linos call is 99% of the time given. It ain’t Sunday League where the ref overrules the volunteer Lino. But with VAR the refs whistle and action, is the only thing that can affect play.
