Now I know it's not until January, and sod's law we could lose all of our next games and be in a relegation scrap and have to er... scrap the cup and play a weakened team.

HOWEVER I'm sure everyone would agree that this is our best chance of winning a major trophy (for the first time since 1925)

I for one hope that this opportunity does not pass us by, and that should we be say... 4 points above the bottom three I'd hope we play a strong team and see what happens.

Wilder has the right obviously to do what he wants and 90% his judgement is correct, though it'd be a shame if we were cautious in this regard IMHO

Agreed, we’re playing 8 less league matches for a start, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t play the core of the first 11 with a few squad players given a chance, even if we are playing a lower league team.

Staying up has to be the priority, we've had a good start and we're picking up a good points average and so if by the 5th/6th round we're safe, I'd chuck everything at it. If not I'd play a weakened side.

I agree to an extent, I love the FA cup still has its magic for me personally although not as much as it did admittedly, however not only if we’re in a relegation battle how about if we get to the 5th/6th round in March and we’re still in with a shout for a European spot ?!
I do want to win a FA cup in my lifetime but I also want to see us in Europe.

The FA Cup doesn't pay out £100m enabling us to grow, keep our best players and probably keep CW. This competition provides much needed game time for our fringe players as yesterday showed when Jags was blowing out of his arse after an hour. Most of the teams that we will be competing with from mid table down play weakened sides because survival in the Prem is the only target.

Unfortunately the magic of the FA Cup was consigned to the dustbin by the greed of the EPL some time ago.

Spurs will take it seriously to try and win back the fans.

Man City will take it seriously because they always do

Man Utd will take it seriously because they are losing confidence in Ole

Liverpool will go for the treble

Chelsea will will want domestic silverware

I'd love a cup run more than anything, but wouldn't blame wilder for sticking Kean Bryan out on his own of it means securing prem football and building.

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion but I would sooner win the FA Cup and get relegated (as Wigan did). Not that I think those options are mutually exclusive.

This is my reasoning - though it is not the best time to say so during these heady days, we will not stay in the PL for ever, the same is true for at least 12 other clubs we're competing with this season.

While we're at this level it gives the best possible opportunity to win an actual trophy, especially as up to the semis most teams don't attempt to play their strongest line up.

For all the talk of £100m (which always winds up in the players pockets), a cup success is on the honours board forever, and a ticket to Europe. Consecutive 15th place finishes in the PL may be satisfying but we won't be growing as some people imagine.

I'd sooner have a trophy. Though I imagine Watford thought the same.

All those players you mentioned played together in the League Cup games and we were shite. Showed we can’t just throw our squad players in together and expect it to click, unfortunately.

Fuck it off this year, in terms of playing the main 11 and reassess next year. Got to think we’ll release 5 or 6 from this squad and depending on who we bring in our cover may be much stronger next season. But the only thing that depends on is staying in the League and our finishing position.

Win the FA Cup but go down. Lose players next year. Nah you’re alright at the moment for that.

Unfortunately cup runs are just one thing that we don't do well under Wilder. Will it change this season? I suspect only if we stick with most of the current first 11, as we do seem to struggle when we make more than a couple of changes.

We'd be daft not to go for it, because I will be amazed if we are not on, or very close to 30 points by the time we play Man City. May as well have a go at the FA cup in the new year knowing that we have no concerns over relegation. The scary January that many pointed to when the fixtures came out doesn't look anything like scary to me now, and February even less so.

Go for it in both competitions, with most of your best team.

FMBlade, what is really scary is I was thinking the same thing this morning. We have played most of the big boys and shiwn we can compete. So why not go for some silverware. Winning is a habit they say. Tweak the line up a little and see how far we can get. Also..what am I thinking now?
