LUNDSTRAM

Wasn't quite at it yesterday, for me - save for that through ball to McGoldrick when we could and should have had 5. Great ball.

For someone of his size, he doesn't have the presence that he ought to have. In replacing Fleck, we saw where he was lacking. Whilst comparing him with the best central midfielder in our squad and arguably the division is harsh, I'm going to do it anyway, largely because 1) that's who he came on for and 2) he needs to reach the level of these players to be ousting them from the starting 11.

He doesn't seem to have Fleck's tenacity and drive, he needs to speed it up a few gears and put himself about a bit more. For me, a brief but telling snippet from yesterday's second half was when Villa were growing into the game. Villa were on the attack, the ball bobbled loose to the edge of our box and you know that Duffy or Fleck wouldn't have given it a second thought and would have been on to it in a flash and would've made it theirs. Instead, Lunny looked left and right, realised noone was going for it and then decided to go for it, by which time of course a Villa player had got there first and they were back in possession. He needs to learn to use his size and frame to be an absolute beast, a leader doesn't think "should I go for it?", he simply takes possession no questions asked and barges everyone and anyone out of the way to get there, his own teammates included.

I'm hoping there's a player in there, which we can fashion.

His problem is his build he's still carrying too many pounds. He's the type of player that needs to play every week but he isn't top end championship standard and that means when he comes on for cameos he's not at the same level of sharpness in thought and pace as the other three midfielders. Very enjoyable tackle on Grealish and that was some ball to McGoldrick but he plays in fits and starts and doesn't have the mobility or stamina needed for our full pressing game. Needs game time but won't get it unless we have an injury crisis. Would benefit from a loan spell in January.

Bet you didnt cheer when Lundstram made that tackle on Grealish?

Lundstram was very good yesterday.

To be fair since Norwood has come in we have seen improvements in Fleck / Stevens etc.

I can imagine Lundstram playing along side then will help develop him.

Agree he did well yesterday. He has come on a lot since he arrived and hopefully playing with Norwood he will improve further. Still young. Not the most mobile but never hides and always gives 100%.

Technically he's extremely proficient. His passing range is superb, although he's more likely to give away a short one than a long one.Mobility is the issue. This can only be compensated by superb reading of the game which will come through experience.

Kozzy_is_my_Dad Lundstram is a very different player to Fleck.

On Saturday he was brought on to do a job and he did it perfectly. Fleck was possibly carrying a knock, but Lundstram coming on at the time he did shored things up perfectly.

He didn't really put a foot wrong and it seemed that his role was to be a little bit of an enforcer... either that or he just wanted to get into Grealish.

Lundstram is decent but the win % with him in thee side compared to coutts and Norwood is indicative of what he lacks - imo he’s just not quick enough with the ball to make us play the way want too.

Sorry if this has already been posted but here’s a gif of his tackle on Grealish

If you look at that clip carefully you can see how perfectly Brylcreem Boy has practiced his diving - full length in mid air, and then tucks in his left shoulder to complete it with a perfect roll.

Maximum impression and minimum chance of injury - I reckon they must have a specialist coach.

Could even be the next captain after Norwood.

After Egan goes to the Mancs for £80m to give Maguire the quality defensive partner he"s always had, until now.

Always been a good player and never deserved the criticism he got just because he wasn't Paul Coutts. I think some are going a tad OTT about his performances so far but now that he has cut out trying the Hollywood ball all the time he looks a much better player.

I still can’t believe folk were judging Lunstram after his first couple of games following Coutts injury. He’s a young lad, who had never played at this level, yet folk expected him to immediately step up to the plate. For me he has been a revelation. He showed potential from day one, and like Coutts before him has made so many people eat humble pie.
Sorry guys, I can’t sleep so started looking back on some of my Lunny posts. Quite like this one 😀

Lundstram has another big weapon in his locker - the long through ball from deep. We've only seen glimpses as yet this season but just wait until The Moose is fully fit and tuned in, Robinson too. He knocks it with perfect flight and pace over the defensive back line. Needs willing fast runners.

In terms of "I told you so posts". This one was a long shot and I'd be cashing it in, well and truly.

Wilder knows a player. I just listen to the Great Man very closely and he was delighted to sign the lad and has always praised him. Mutual respect they have and that always helps.

Have a read of my other posts on here, bloody good they are :D
