If you are going down the sensible route a Blades away kit should be plain white with perhaps a little bit of black trim. If you are going for a "fuck it" effect then any of the retina-searing numbers of recent years will suffice. I liked the neon "British Rail Tunnel Paint Yellow" one from t'other season for some reason. My favourite away kit is probably the white "Wards" one from 98/98. I've had two - one was left in a bar in Portugal with Woodseats Blades written on it.

I had the full "ripe banana" away kit when I was but a mere youth. The unsponsored Hobott one, not one of these new-fangled replicas.

Back when I was a lad, jumpers for goalposts, weedy/fat/specky/spacky kid in goal, seventeen a side, all strikers too, tights were for girls and not Mousey, kick and rush, home for tea and medals, witter witter, where's me pissbag, and all that shite....:D:D:D

I liked the green collared one, think it was the 1st season after relegation from the premier in (94/95?). It still had the laver sponsor anyway, looked pretty smart that kit.

Think we wore it in one of my standout matches away at Luton when it finished 5-3 or something ridiculous. I remember Kevin Gage scoring twice.

I'd like to see United in a home kit of red/white stripes, white shorts and socks and then all black away with a red trim.

Purple shirt with a green and purple diagonal stripe
That was my first United shirt. Awesome kit.
What about the Black & White striped shirt from our year in the Premiership - I'm sure we never won in that either!
That was an absolutely horrendous shirt!
The yellow shirts with red trim i had in mind were these:

Now thats nice. Would love to see that again.

On a semi related note, I remember our porcine friends in teh 90's having to bring out a 3rd kit for an Away game at Newcastle as the referee ruledthat their Blue & White Stripes clashed with the barcodes Black and White, and their black away kit also clashed.

I remember that well... They had a black away shirt with yellow pinstripes (They're having that strip again next season!) Then the kit designed was White with Black pinstripes... (What colour do Newcastle play in again??) In the end it was Newcastle in Blue, Wednesday in Black & White, how ironic

It was the one after the blue away kit. Everyone complained about it being blue so we got the turqoise one. Lovely shirt hardly wore it!

I had it too. Wish is still had all my shirts

Wife bought me the yellow with black chevrons from the club shop 4 or 5 years ago - wear it to every match, would be great to have it updated.

my favourite is yellow away shirt with red trim.

Best home shirt is 1996-1997 (Avec)...

http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Sheffield_United/Sheffield_United.htm

Looking at that list, it's amazing that Avec, in the 2 years they made our shirts, made simultaneously one of our worst (the diamonds) and one of the best (the plain stripes one) kits in our history!

As for away kits, i quite liked the Desun 02/03 one (yes it was (very) dark blue but it was still good) or the dayglo green and black worn a few years back.

I preferred the 97-99 home kit. The White 3rd strip was pretty sweet too. The patrick kit was unspeakably naff.

They should follow Englands example and go for a simple smart retro look.
