What?! Nobody has anything better to talk about at the moment due to the continued malaise and boredom created at the club so lets at least talk about something.............

Perhaps you have an all time favourite away kit that you would like to see again; or maybe you feel United should have a traditional away colour. My personal favourite???........

White with black trim

My favourite away strip was the white one from the Spackman season. We also played in this for the first time in the 96' playoff final against Palace. I think they should be our traditional away colours. But what do you think?

Home Kit = Red, white and black with stripes design.

ergo CHANGE kit = any other colours in a plain design. Simples!

My favourite was the Admiral yellow one we had in the late 70s with the Black chevrons. Woody et al wearing it :)

Having said that my first ever Blades shirt was a white one from a couple of seasons earlier :D

Away colours should contain no element of the Home kit. Having a white away kit is as useful as a chocolate fireguard when playing away at Stoke, Sunderland, Exeter, Spurs, Bolton etc etc depending on the amount of white in the home kit of course.

As such my preference is for a yellow away kit, as it means we don`t need a stupid 3rd Kit.

Like below

On a semi related note, I remember our porcine friends in teh 90's having to bring out a 3rd kit for an Away game at Newcastle as the referee ruledthat their Blue & White Stripes clashed with the barcodes Black and White, and their black away kit also clashed.

SWFC then asked their kit suppliers to provide a 3rd Kit. Which they did. Which was white. Which, unsurprisingly, the referee also didn`t like.

The end result, Wednesdaty played in their White 3rd Kit, and Newcastle played in their blue away kit.

What a farce...

Apart from the fact that we've played in white away at Stoke and Sunderland and worn the stripes at Spurs, Bolton, Leeds et al.
Only time we've had bother at Leeds was when we wore the ridiculous blue number and clashed with the ref!

Back in the day, when an away kit was there to provide an alternative to the home strip in cases of colour clashing rather than a money making excercise, we seldom had to wear an away strip at all.

Agree - simple and smart shirt

That latter away kit may have the distinction of being the only one United never won a game in. We wore it only for the 75-6 season and won only two away games that season - at Norwich and Leeds - both of which (I think) we wore the first strip for.

Home - red and white stripes, black shorts, WHITE socks

Away - All yellow

Didn't we wear an Orange number at Palace one year, got a 5-0 or 5-1 going over (as shown on MOTD), and never wore it again?

They had their mainly white with a red and blue sash thing and it clashed with both our home and away kit at the time.

PS. Not to mention Colchester away in Div4. An all red shirt as opposed to our red and white or yellow and brown regular kits that season.

Where'd you get those pics/drawings from Essex??

We'd still need a 3rd kit if we got Melchester Rovers in the cup though

White Shorts

my favourite is yellow away shirt with red trim.
Best home shirt is 1996-1997 (Avec)...

While looking at those historical kits, I noticed something. When we wear white shorts we tend to do very well in the FA Cup. Semi-finalists in 2003 and 1993, 6th Round in 2004 and 1968. Unfortunately, we also have a tendency to get relegated while wearing white shorts (i.e. 1968 and 2004).

So the solution is obvious. Wear black shorts in the league, white shorts in the cup and we can't fail.

What about the Black & White striped shirt from our year in the Premiership - I'm sure we never won in that either!

Think thats right - we won at Watford, Newcastle and Wigan wearing red and white stripes each time.

We did get a point at Charlton in the black and white though :-)

I think the strip looks a lot better with white shorts. Always have. I like the mixture we've worn this season with either white socks or shorts (not sure we've had both white this season though??)

The yellow shirts with red trim i had in mind were these:

Best two away shirts we've ever had IMO.

Not bad those two, prefer the shadow-stripe effort myself. Still think the 70s yellow was better though. But that might be an age thing ;)

I always liked this one. And we had the same shirt in white for the 3rd kit.

I was at this game as I received a free ticket. The 3rd kit wasn't all white - it was silver and black stripes, even closer to Newcastle's kit. Given it was designed specifically to be used against Newcastle, someone had clearly taken leave of their senses. There was a happy ending - Wednesday lost 4-2 having been 2-1 up. It was early in the 1993-4 season I think.

Not only did United not win in the black and white stripes, but Stead's goal at Charlton was the only goal they scored in that kit.

My favourite - the dayglo one from 1990 and 1991. I accidentally left mine in the sports hall at Granville college, and always regretted it.

Jags also scored a pen at Middlesbrough in it on 1/1/07.

It was mine too. I used to wear that shirt when running in the cross country races at my boarding school. The sports teacher(who is from Newbury) would keep saying "What football team is that?" and then take the mickey

Anyone remember we wore the all blue kit in the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on Easter Monday 1975? We wore the same strip that season at Stoke, Liverpool and probably at Middlesbrough

That's my favourite home kit although I would take the 1948-54 socks.

I have a dislike of "single colour" kits and I particularly dislike the all yellow one suggested above, my fav away was the flourescent one with black shorts, fantastic, and I quite liked the yellow with red shorts pictured above, but really I think we ought to have a striped away shirt so I would suggest yellow and purple stripes so as to avoid the problem of clashes by using white and something which we have had in the past.
