ignored a nudge on Pickford for our 1st goal
This, just this. If fans can accept that it is t about decisions always being right then VAR has no reason to exist. You only have to see the Chelsea Liverpool game yesterday to see why VAR will be the ruination of football as a live spectator sport.Personally I couldn’t give a monkeys whether decisions are 100% right or not. I’m quite happy to come to terms with the notion that life isn’t perfect and sometimes things will go in your favour, and sometimes they won’t. So for me it’s entire reason for existence is pointless.
But it’s impact on the joy of watching live football is terminal in my view. There is not really anything in life to match the sudden rush of pride and exhalation of a United goal whilst sat with your nearest and dearest on the Kop. It simply won’t ever be the same again. VAR will be the death of the live experience, mark my words.
Not that the bean counters will care less whilst they w**k themselves senseless over every millimetre here or there. If 10 million folk in Thailand or wherever are happy, no one’s going to give a rat’s ass about 30,000 people in a stadium.
A keeper doesn’t have a divine right to run to the ball unimpeded. If anything Pickford impeded Robinson more than vice versa. However, if Pickford had exaggerated the contact and gone down you can bet that the goal would have been disallowed. Not a single comment questioning the decision in the Everton View From.
One thing that has surprised me is how poor the VAR cameras are. You’d think they’d insist on super high speed cameras that record at hundreds of frames per second.
No!! Please don't even suggest this!
What will I shout at the TV every time he appears?!![]()
So the Man Utd/Arsenal game tonight, linesman puts flags up for offside and Arsena go through and score. The goal went to VAR and was correctly given so are all offsides now allowed to be played through to a shot so they can be reviewed if a goal is scored? And I know you should play to the whistle but if the defending team stops and a goal is scored and given despite the flag being up isn’t that going to potentially cause some issues?

The other thing that never sat right me with on this one, was why Gerard was on the ground. The ref gave a penalty for intent, acknowledging that there was no contact made. So why wasn't Gerard booked for diving? If there was no contact made then how did he end up on the floor face down?
It's funny that since this very day I've never seen another penalty given for intent. Has anyone else seen one given anywhere in world football?
I blame Warnock for annoying Rob Styles amongst every other referee he came into contact with.

The linesman should not have put his flag up until the ball hit the net.Thats the supposedly agreed way now. Causes confusion, particularly in the stands but is fair and will become understood and accepted.
I thought he was supposed to put it up as soon as the player who was offside, (or supposed to be anyway) touched the ball?
Thats not my understanding.
That’s if it’s blatantly offside. If it’s tight the lino’s supposed to keep their flag down until the ball is dead, then indicate they thought it was offside. VAR will then check it (if there’s a goal)I thought he was supposed to put it up as soon as the player who was offside, (or supposed to be anyway) touched the ball?
Exactly. The vast majority of those watching PL are armchair fans, and their money is more important than oursVAR is for the armchair fans to enhance their viewing entertainment.

I read an interesting article written by a mathematician, which claimed that due to camera shutter speed, VAR cannot accurately narrow offsides down to the fine margins it claims to. I cant remember where it was, but the above graphic is along similarlr lines.
Apologies if posted before,
There was a thing on Look North last week about grass roots refereeing where they said that the majority of young refs quit the game within two years, in large part due to the abuse they take during games. Maybe worry about that a bit and we'd be able to start raising the standards of referees.
Spot onIt also seems that had Leon scored that chance very later on, then VAR would probably have ruled it out for offside. I now think, that fook he didnt score. Taking that defeat was hard enough as it was, never mind if I'd gone absolutely mental with an equaliser only to have it chalked off 1 minute later.
Having now given VAR a lot of thought, it's definitely a NO from me. I can accept if a linesman has called a wrong decision but it's literally 6 inches or even a foot either way. That's the way it goes, you win some you lose some. But to score a goal, see the flag is down, go mental, then have it chalked off a minute or so later is horrible. That's not what football for the paying supporter should be like. VAR is for the armchair fans to enhance their viewing entertainment.
