Like Robinson, has a lot to offer, but at the moment I believe not a lot of those offerings work as a striker, to me he is not a striker, he is a winger being asked to play upfront, would like to hear peoples opinions on this as it seems to be a decisive one. I am not claiming I am right you are wrong by the way it's all opinions we are allowed them still aren't we? Looking on Facebook pages you would think otherwise.

Can't profess to be an expert on the lad but he's playing a different role to the one I saw him play for Preston a few times.

My concern with him isn't that he's not tearing it up but that at times he seems happy to let the game pass him by.

I don't expect him to win headers and out muscle centre halves but I'd like to see him at least look like he's trying to make a nuisance of himself even if it's not his preferred role/position.

I know some will say it's harsh, and I'm not writing him off, but I feel like he's been a bit of a passenger at times, during the last two games particularly.

With our change to a more flat midfield, and the fact we're not going to dictate play as much this season, pace is more important and I believe that's a key part of why Robinson and Mousset were brought in.

We have to be realistic about what we can afford and achieve at present but equally it's reasonable to comment and discuss on where we feel we're falling short.

Even though there was no big difference I did think Sharp and Mousset caused a few more problems when they came on at Watford.

There will clearly be games where the opposition don't sit as deep and defend in numbers, but likewise we've passed up an opportunity or two in more open games and drawn blanks.

Without wanting to attract digs for being critical or negative, it's abundantly clear where we need to improve in order to stay in the division. The defence have largely risen to the occasion imho as have many of the midfield, but whether it's the system or personnel (probably a bit of both), it's scoring goals that is our Achilles heel currently.

Sounds stupid I know but he's not a striker. he's a forward. I'd say there's a big difference between the 2. The only proper striker we have in my opinion is Sharp with Mousset also more than capable with what we've seen so far. The rest are forward players but their main attributes aren't scoring goals.

McG is a forward and can be used as a striker but his main attributes are linking up play, I'd say that CW sees Robinson as the same kind of player in the long term and will likely be pushing him to replaced McG as he gets older(er!).

McBurnie is more a target man to date for us but was a good striker in the Championship, he just isn't playing as a striker in the PL.

Clarke is a secret weapon and can do a bit of everything, he will be unleashed on defences sparingly as we don't want everyone knowing how good he is ;)

I have a lot more reservations about Robinson than any of our other front men. He ain’t a target man like McBurnie, he ain’t a fox in the box like our Billy and he’s certainly not a quickie like Lys Mousset. He also doesn’t have the deft feet of David McGoldrick or even the direct “power house” style of Leon in his pomp. I might be wrong and he might turn out to be all of the above....... But I doubt

No where near to a striker and it absolutely baffles me why Wilder is persisting with him when Billy seems to be way ahead in terms of well EVERYTHING...he needs a bit of time on the bench too, seems like a lazy luxury to me that we cant afford to carry this year especially when we’re struggling for goals.

Agree with others that say he's more a "Forward" than a Striker.

Not sure if he's totally over his injury at Preston last season, more mental thank physical maybe? but he's not even really trying to have an influence on games.

For me, as I've put in other threads, I'd start Freeman instead. Could provide a link between midfield and Forward / Striker plus in the three league games he's played he at least tried to have an impact on the game.

I do hope Robinson comes good for us though, I thought he was a good signing.

I am still not sold on this lad. He’s not a conventional striker, he is a forward. I just feel he’s playing under instruction a lot of the time. The way he drops deep to chase and hound defenders is all instruction from Wilder. Maybe if we attached with more intent and we played an AM he may look a better player. Either way. He’s what we’ve got for now so let’s get behind him.

Can't start the next game. If he does Wilder is taking the piss.

Might be best to use him as an impact sub for a while.

He never has been. We are trying to mould him into one. It will take time if indeed it works at all.
He used to flit about for Preston sometimes coming inside but started in a wide position ,that's how ireland use him.
Considering he's a strongly built lad he is not a physical player something he has to work on there.
Not getting the best out of him or Mcbernie yet !. Wilder will know this I'm sure, a lot more to come from them both in my opinion

Wide forward.

Can play as a striker against poorer opponents but not in the Prem, not yet anyway. Needs to be stronger if he's to do it at Prem level.

His best performance has been Chelsea, where we did two things that suited him, got balls across the 6 yard box (our bread and butter last season, but something we haven't really done this season), and we played Freeman, who he linked with out on the left.

Watford especially, it's all been a bit vertical and in the air, and as I said, he's not strong enough at the moment. He said in a FIFA event video that he'd only really started doing strength training when he came to us, so that's probably why he's forced off the ball relatively easily.

We should really consider something like that but this 4-3-1-2 would be my suggestion.

Henderson
Baldock Egan O'Connell Stevens
Lundstram Norwood Fleck
Freeman
Mousset McGoldrick

No Sharp? You'll be getting death threats......

Young player that everyone was certain was a star in the making, gets bought. Wankfest ensues.

Three months later, aforesaid young player has only scored one and snapped at a few half chances. He is now 'not a striker' and not up to it.*

He isn't yet getting Norwood 2018 levels of flack (or Lunny 2016-2019), but it is surely a matter of time.

Welcome to the internet where everything is live and instant and everyone has a snap opinion on everything.

'Giving the lad time' or even 'the jury is out in him' is just sooooooo last century.

* This is the Robinson thread and I don't want a criminal record with the thread police, but the above applies word for word to McBurnie too. He is apparently 'a waste of £20m' according to some of our experts.

Our current 'best player' is the previously slated McGoldrick, although this conclusion is on the basis he isn't currently playing and any 'change' is good. It's well known fact that when you aren't winning, your best players are always those not playing.

Because as we all know, as much as we all love Wilder he is incredibly stubborn. See the regular dropping of Sharp and Duffy and his insistence with the flat 3 midfield for evidence of that. I also get the sense in interviews that he doesn't like being questioned too much!

On current form and from what we've seen so far McBurnie does look like a waste of 20 million, why are you getting your pants in a twist over people saying he looks a poor signing when SO FAR, he does look like a poor signing? Nobody is writing anybody off, just judging from what we've seen so far.

Robbo is a winger or inside forward as part of a 3 up top. He's not used to playing as part of a 2. Thats why he looks like a fish out of water.

Especially not by Mike McCarthy.

I don't think hes a winger or a striker, whenever he gets the ball in free space you would think he would turn around and run at defenders forcing them backwards but he looks cautious and often starts slowly and plays it wide

To be perfectly honest, I'm sick to the back teeth of our Bedwetters Branch, going into meltdown when we don't win every game.

We have come a long way since August 2016. Most fans realised this season would be a tough relegation fight and the team would need every ounce of support possible.

Who were we supposed to buy, given that Messi wasn't been touted around to us?

Nobody is writing anybody off, just judging from what we've seen so far.

Not what I've seen on other threads.

Probably to be expected after about 6 years of uninterrupted arse kissing....

Needs his arse kicking now. Got the God complex. Thank God for Ricky to bring the twat down to earth. He'll listen to you in March Ricky when it's touch and go.

I think Robinson in a front two would work best with Sharp, he needs a proper forward alongside him, not a target man or a drifter as he's best suited to drifting wide himself.

Mousset should be starting ahead of him now, but some people seem to be trying to write him off entirely.
