Said as much as the OP on the Duffy thread. Watford were garbage but they would have beaten us if Welbeck hadn't helped us out with one of his trademark fluffs. We were never going to score in that match and it's going to be a long haul if 0-0 is the target against dross like this.

Seems to me that Watford set up like they were playing an away game at a top 6 side, and in their position you can't really blame them. It gave us plenty of possession, but also exposed our lack of real quality up front. Easy to point fingers at the strikers, but I suspect it is a lack of creativity that could be our undoing. The inescapable fact is that our defensive set up is outstanding, and that alone should keep us in games, and give us a chance of pinching a few games.

Our defensive set up is not outstanding when you give away three one on ones (one was an open goal) and the same last week (Sane twice and Mane). They do well for long periods bit swtich off at key times. If we keep making the same mistakes we are going to get punished. Today it really could have been 3-0 as daft as it sounds on our possession. Watfor were garbage but did not make any mistakes anywhere close to the ones we made.

Currently a lack of chances on goal imo is causing us to fall short. Obvious observation but time to change the strikers. Don't ask, don't know the answer as my late Grandad told me many years ago. Done me ok so far. CWAK - give us a Lys/ Sharp starting lineup to see what it's like after 60-70mins.

Individual mistakes don't mean the set up was wrong mate. Cant legislate for them.

The set up was horribly wrong. They had two one on ones from balls over the top where we lost one challenge and they were in.

There is no way that should happen. The open goal today came as two went out and one sat in and then we did not get back to get organised quick enough.

The Welback chance came when Egan lost his header but you shoould not win a challenge on half way and be though on goal. Why were we so high up the field?

This happened last week also with the two Salah and Mane chances. You dont get many chances at this level but in the last two weeks our opponents have had 6 one on one chances. They have scored 0. We have been quite fortunate.

So sorry I am not sure our set up is great even considering the mistakes we have made. Teams should not be getting in on goal so easily.

It was like they’d settled for a goal on the break and prettt much knew that we wouldn’t have enough to break them down. Either tactical genius or they are really shit.

Exactly this. Basham looks clumsy in possession & has an error in him & Egan & JOC are making a lot more individual mistakes this year. Henderson too.

We've been extremely fortunate today to get a point. We need to create opportunities & take them because we're not as good defensively as we think we are.

I know it's a mute point, but that open goal was offside and VAR would have ruled it out. That said it was horrible defending all the same...........

Watford were there for the taking. Suppose its a decent point but cant help but think we could have got 3.

I know Wilder has had to adopt the formation & tactics for the PL but do we have to play less attacking wise against the lower mid/lower half of the PL?

Im hoping that in the second half of the season we can be abit more fluid in how we set up to play.

Wilder is the most aggressive, attack-minded manager we’ve had. Do you honestly think if Watford were ‘there for the taking’ he would send out a team to try and scape a 0-0?

OP is similar to my thoughts.

Today was...alright. We weren't good, we weren't bad, we dominated possession but we got off the hook with chances Watford should've scored. It's just okay and 0-0 seemed pretty fair. But I'm frustrated. I'm frustrated because I'm not used to this team being happy with just being alright, just getting a point. Both sides looked quite content to not be losing, to not take many risks, and to keep going as it was.

It's another game where I look at it and I say, okay, I get it, we're a newly promoted team with new players still getting up to pace and adapting to a higher level, but when the game's finished all I can think is we were too cautious. Aside from Liverpool, that's how I've been feeling after every game. We can and should be more daring than we have been.

Watford fans are probably sitting there thinking “dem blades were there for the taking today”

Funny thing, perspective.

Nonsense.

It's all quite satisfactory at the moment, 8 games played, 9 points. Absolutely adequate, well done.

But in games like today, I can't help but feel that if we set up like we have done for the last few years, with Freeman behind the strikers, we'd offer a fuck load more going forward.

I can understand setting up with the flat midfield 3 against the better sides, but in games like today, why not give it a go from the start? I feel like I haven't seen us play as well as we can yet this season, and that's down to the formation.

Would we really get bummed by everyone if we set up this way? Is everyone really so good in this league that they'd all expose us and we'd be sitting with a - 10 goal difference?

I know we're Sheffield United and everyone's supposedly reight good, and we should just be happy to be here, and if we keep this up and we'll probably stay up, but it just feels like we should be doing better.

This is precisely how I feel. I’m slightly disappointed in the season so far as I haven’t seen us be us.

All about opinions bud but we have come such a long way in 3 years, with largely lower league players, and if anyone had foretold that we would have played 8 games conceding 7 goals, (joint 3rd best) I would have been amazed and delighted. For me, our defence is the very least of our problems. How we are going to create and score enough goals is what we should worry about.

Our goals for and against record days otherwise to be fair.
