Agree absolutely. It's a piss-take on the ridiculous media reports, which, don't forget, came to light because McCabe tried to use this to suggest the Prince was unsuitable/corrupt in some way. I think that backfired terribly on him didn't it? But the point is that these fans who are dressing up as Osama Bin Laden may think they are just having "a bit of a laugh" but the potential for this to be picked up on through the media and used to damage the image and reputation of our club is considerable. Do these fans realise that we are now at a level of global exposure, being a Premier league team, that is greater than ever before? Do they realise that this kind of japing about can actually damage the global image of our club? We are right up there, at the top table, and our profile has never been higher. Do these fans want to give the media an opportunity to paint us as some evil terrorist supporting club?
If so, they are definitely going the right way about it.
I've read in recent weeks how we are one of the worst football clubs in the entire football league when it comes to arrests for being violent. And I've read how we are a right-wing "BREXIT" club that dislikes foreigners. (The double Union Jack of our sponsors doesn't exactly help this image either!).
A lot of fans around the globe are now learning about us, probably for the first time. I'd love them to be impressed with our club. How we've achieved against tremendous odds. How we play a unique style of football and are a breath of fresh air, and a source of inspiration, for other clubs who are striving to play at the top level. I think this is a real opportunity to win admirers and increase our global audience.
But, these kind of antics, although done in jest, are disastrous to the image of our club and it won't take much for some nasty media journo's to jump on it and paint us as some evil, terrorist funded, xenophobic, organisation that employs wife-beaters, crooks and rapists. That's really not very good for us at all.
So, maybe these senseless fans can just find something a bit more appropriate to have a laugh at? Please?
