Plenty of British people find the "Windsor" family name acceptable even though one of its ex-Kings (Edward VIII) was a Nazi sympathiser. I don't recall hearing many calls about the name "Windsor" being expunged from history. Yep, big stink of hypocrisy around this forum at the moment.
Not sure where you get your 'hypocrisy from?
The whole point is that one man's actions should not taint a whole family and wearing the mask is doing exactly that by implying association?

I doubt someone wearing an Edward VIII mask would result in the same hysteria surrounding this guy. One's OK and the other isn't, simply due to association with the family name. That's where the hypocrisy comes in, along with a good dose of racism as one is acceptable (prominent English family name) and the the other isn't (prominent Arabic family name).

Sorry but I don't feel you're comparing, 'like for like' in this situation, but point taken.

Loads of SWFC giving us pelters on twitter with racist bollocks about Muslims and us being terrorist sympathisers. The Bin Lid mask is effectively a “fuck you, we are Blades, we don’t care what you think” response.

Wednesday fans calling others racist. 🤣

Similarly the great Jerry Sadowitz. He lost some lucrative TV work after implying that Jimmy Savile was a paedophile (it's one of the few clips you can find of Sadowitz online. It was during the scandal in Cleveland, he said 'There's no time to mess about, they need to send in an expert. Send in Jimmy Savile!').

Years later, after Savile died and the truth came out, Sadowitz started one of his shows coming out in full Savile costume, and apparently soaked up the applause for about 5 minutes. Bad taste? Sure. Funny? You betcha.

What a fucking great example. I've still got a cassette copy of Total Abuse somewhere.

The target is the hypocrisy. And that hypocrisy runs deep.

Just after Savile died I was invited to raise a glass in my local by one of the punters in honour of 'Sir Jimmy'.

I refused as I said I didn't honour paedos. A woman got quite annoyed that I could denigrate such a charitable man and icon.

I just replied that hopefully you'll realise soon enough.

Wonder what she thought when what many knew already was accepted fully in the public domain.

Any truth in the rumour that London Road is to be annexed by ISIL (Islamic State of Ighfield and Lansdowne)?

I get your point about making a stance against unjustified attacks, and that this, in isolation can be deemed funny by some. But in truth those fans who don't really care won't feel the need to respond at all and for those who do care, this wasn't an appropriate response.

🤷‍♂️

I see it as playing on the whole "oh the Prince is funding terrorists" shite the media is claiming.

Might not be to everyone's taste but I don't think it was meant to glorify Osama or the rest of the Taliban scumbags.

Agree absolutely. It's a piss-take on the ridiculous media reports, which, don't forget, came to light because McCabe tried to use this to suggest the Prince was unsuitable/corrupt in some way. I think that backfired terribly on him didn't it? But the point is that these fans who are dressing up as Osama Bin Laden may think they are just having "a bit of a laugh" but the potential for this to be picked up on through the media and used to damage the image and reputation of our club is considerable. Do these fans realise that we are now at a level of global exposure, being a Premier league team, that is greater than ever before? Do they realise that this kind of japing about can actually damage the global image of our club? We are right up there, at the top table, and our profile has never been higher. Do these fans want to give the media an opportunity to paint us as some evil terrorist supporting club?

If so, they are definitely going the right way about it.

I've read in recent weeks how we are one of the worst football clubs in the entire football league when it comes to arrests for being violent. And I've read how we are a right-wing "BREXIT" club that dislikes foreigners. (The double Union Jack of our sponsors doesn't exactly help this image either!).

A lot of fans around the globe are now learning about us, probably for the first time. I'd love them to be impressed with our club. How we've achieved against tremendous odds. How we play a unique style of football and are a breath of fresh air, and a source of inspiration, for other clubs who are striving to play at the top level. I think this is a real opportunity to win admirers and increase our global audience.

But, these kind of antics, although done in jest, are disastrous to the image of our club and it won't take much for some nasty media journo's to jump on it and paint us as some evil, terrorist funded, xenophobic, organisation that employs wife-beaters, crooks and rapists. That's really not very good for us at all.

So, maybe these senseless fans can just find something a bit more appropriate to have a laugh at? Please?

I bet you your house I didn't.
I just don't get someone impersonating a mass murderer as being funny.
If that's a sense of humour by pass you've need nelp.
I look forward to the deeds of your house, unless you welch on. Ets

I have a sense of humour.
I didn't vote remain, so you've lost a bet.
Are you one of "those" who find the Osama mask funny but spit at the TV over Corbyn the terrorist sympathiser?
My mate was late for work on 9/11, but he was standing close by when the second plane hit his building killing 237 of his work colleagues. One other of his colleagues survived but lost her parents in the terrorist attack.
Yeah, you've got a fantastic sense of humour mate.
Answered me twice, love being popular 🤣🤣

I've not read all this thread but surely the point about a Bin Laden mask is that there is a company out there making them and selling them to the general public. I assume this is not the only mask in existence and that this company has made, and sold, more than one as it would not be profitable otherwise. Rather than venting our collective spleens at the dimwit who wore one at the match yesterday, why don't we criticise, and shame, the manufacturer for making, and selling them?

But where do we stop? There's obviously a demand for them. There have been plenty of bad guys in history. Can't we wear masks of any of them?

Imagine if Guy Fawkes masks were banned. "Anonymous" wouldn't be very happy for starters.

I think global fans that have some common sense will realise our fans are taking the piss. Those who don't get that, don't get us.

Anyway we can thank McCabe for this one.

Yes we can. What I am saying is we are quite happy to castigate someone for wearing such a mask, but make no effort to get them stopped being made in the first place if they are so offensive. Personally, wearing suck a mask is a bit of bad taste, but nothing more. It doesn't upset me or anger me like it appears to have done with some on the forum.

Not completely relevant but my old Egyptian pal cracks up when I call him Omar Sayed Omar Ahmed Bin Laden..

I've not been keeping up with the Brexit stereotypes lately, I'd have assumed those who voted remain would be less inclined to be offended by Osama Bin Laden masks, and the Leavers more inclined to get angry about it being a disgrace because Daily Mail or soldiers or some shit.

Going to have to read up.

Personally, I don't give two shits what other people think, do, attend games in as long as they're cheering us on, and the global audience can get fucked because having lived on this particular globe all my life I've come to the conclusion it's full of twats.

I'll be worried if we get bought by someone with links to posing pouches though with the state of some of our fans (myself included).

It was McCabe who mentioned it to the public though.

It was brought up in court first of all wasn't it? You know, that place where you swear to tell the truth and all that?
