I have to admit I’m a little less confident of our chances than I was at the start of the season. This is partly because I think we are being too cautious - both in team selection and tactics - particularly at home - and also because the other teams that I thought might struggle look better than I expected.

I’m not going to predict the bottom 3 though because I can’t bear to include us in it.

We only lost 5 homes games in the last Premier League season and were relegated. We've already lost two this time around.

Look at the performances and don't be over influenced by a recent results which are often determined by luck. Got the penalty decision and drawn as we deserved and this thread wouldn't have reopened. We could have had 5 batterings by now based on the beginning of season perceived wisdom but actually very far from it.

Maybe, but I was criticising the predictions of relegation after 5 games and 2 losses. I didn't bring bookies into it - who's interest is making money, not accurately predicting results. The odds change depending on how many people bet on something, they cover themselves if betting increases or is likely to increase. That really isn't a reason for fans - "fanatics" - to be pessimistic mid-September.

Still think Brighton, Newcastle and one from Villa/Norwich. At the moment I would say Villa with Norwich to do just enough.

Still think United will finish around 14th/15th. Palace and Southampton will be the two around or just below us.

Watford will improve, Burnley might get pulled into trouble as well.

Sorry Guesty, but you jumped in in the middle, it wasn't me that raised bookies' odds and I was replying to someone who had linked odds to people predicting relegation. The specific post you replied to was clearly not talking about odds or bookies. If you wanted to discuss reasons for bookies' odds changing, you should have replied to Nicolaus_Copernicus.

Not only that but a disappointing and unexpected result was going to happen sooner or later, these have been happening since the first year of Wilder's tenure (how did Fleetwood keep turning us over?) Only Man City never get unexpected results but that's because they've blown so much money on players

Apart from getting done by Norwich, which may be your point. That every club gets unexpected results. If they didn’t, football would be boring.

How many games are you including in your 'current form'? Is it just the last game?

I'd say that on current form the bottom three will those that are currently in the bottom three, Watford, Wolves and Newcastle.

i had preseason 18) Newcastle 19) Norwich 20) Brighton

but 5 games is extremely tough to predict. i genuinely think it could be as much 9 teams, are worried 3 promoted sides obviously Norwich, Us, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Brighton, Newcastle, Watford maybe Bournemouth but i think theyll be fine. we could be fine because not ludicrous to say that we could be 4th on 9pts but we've poteinally lost to august goal of the month & september goal of the month point v Leicester & 3 v Southampton that 9pts
