Scotland Fans Views On Oli McBurnie

Well I didn't realise Scotland had such a wealth of world class centre forwards to choose from that they could be so critical of McBurnie. From what I've seen so far although he can appear ungainly he has a good all round game. Excellent work ethic, good header of the ball, good physical presence, good awareness of players around him, ability to pick out a pass (the one he played through to Robinson against Chelsea was superb) and his goal scoring record shows he knows where the back of the net is.

Does that all add up to £20 million worth ? Well the market says it does so that's all that really matters.

I’ve read the thread and looked through previous threads but can’t find the answer I’m looking for. Why do the jocks boo McBurnie? Something to do with supporting rangers? If so then I’m sure there’s more in the squad than him who follow rangers? Or has he said something to do with the religion stuff?

basically because he’s english.

bigotry flourishing north of the wall.

A video was leaked a couple of weeks ago of him supposedly mouthing off to fleck about how Scotland are crap. Don’t think they were big fans before.

Because he was caught on video last week saying he didn’t want to go, it would be shit. He had to apologise to the rest of the squad and explain himself as soon as they met up. Which adds a bit of context to their comments.

Wouldn’t swap McBurnie for Maupay, but I think Maupay is probably better.

Well it's clear Scotland fans don't understand the economics of football. Prior to us buying McBurnie I knew we'd have to push the boat out too far to get him, 20m for a Championship striker was a record but that is this years price for a player proven at that level (Maupay went for the same), if he scores 10 goals it's proven to be money well spent, if he scores more then he's starting to look a bargain. Maupay? No thanks I'd rather have somebody committed to the cause, it leads to better performances when the weather turns or the chips are down.

Before you start disssing Ollie look at the vid on you tube of his play last season and remember how he schooled us when playing for Barnsley. Seen nothing to suggest he can't be a massive asset for us. Scotland car crash football team not a useful indicator.

Early days still regarding McBurnie. I hated Coutts when he first arrived at the Lane. We called him the “Ikea Wardrobe”, he seemed to be stationary for most of the game. Turn out there was quite a decent player hidden there after Wilder and Knill worked their magic. It’s been a big step for all of them, some have adjusted a bit quicker i.e. Lundstram. It’ll be fine.UTB

I watched the game.

Whilst he was hardly excellent...

...He didn't have a single decent cross or pass put into him all night.

For the first 75 minutes of the game there wasn't a player within 30 yards of him as he chased around trying to pluck balls out of the air against giant Russians.

They could have had prime Original Ronaldo up front and he'd have made no difference.

If someone had dropped it on his head in the 89th for the equaliser, they'd all be lauding a selfless workmanlike performance.

Mcburnie was the player I most wanted us to.sign this season ,I'm.guessing the way the transfer dragged out that wilder felt the same way

Maupay talked himself out of it by being a twat even though wilder had big plans for him

No doubt in my mind ollie will be a success but he's on a steep learning curve at the minute

Obvious bias and agendas aside.

£20m ? Seriously ?????

He’s good in the air. I’ll give him that. And he does appear to be able to direct headers won, which is a HUGE improvement on the various 50p heads we have previously had 😉

But the speed at which his feet move is worryingly slow, which has a serious knock on effect to any number of other key footballing attributes that you would want a £20m striker to have.

I’ll spare everyone going through the entire list, suffice to say it remains a concern IF he is to be our main #9 this season !!

Can't agree with that was sat on the blut for the palace game and was very impressed by the way he controlled the ball with one touch got it out of his feet and either layed it off or held it up while at the same time holding off the defender

If I was Ollie, I'd tell Scotland to fuck off and concentrate on the PL. Why waste time and effort for a country that doesn't want you, in yet another shambolic Euro qualification campaign. 2 points in front of Cyprus for fucks sake, but by the way they're banging on you'd think they were world champions. Rather than the International equivalent of a National League team.
I think the fact that he allegedly said that he wasn’t that fussed about playing for Scotland had a bearing in the stick he’s got. He apologised to the the players but the haggis munchers won’t forget, I bet some of those comments are before the game.

He was on a hiding to nothing last night and the fact that he was totally isolated made it an impossible task. I’d tell them to stuff it if he’s not that keen for playing for the shite and focus on his future with us.

When he’s playing for The Blades he won’t be stuck up front on his own having aimless long balls fired at at him with no support along side him or from midfield.

Scotland play Belgium on Monday. Another hard game.
Fook me at home as well ,get ready for the BOOOO`S they will get hammered , McBurnies moral will be rock bottom when he comes back , cant see him starting against Southampton after those 2 matches, moooosey or Billy might start !!

Oli McBurnie watch: Seventh defeat in eight for striker but £20m man let down by team-mates.........According to The Scotsman newspaper headline.

'McBurnie’s hold-up play was as good as Clarke could have hoped but unfortunately it was not always matched by the quality of ball retention from those supporting the striker from midfield'. The interval came as a relief for Scotland but there was to be no respite after the break. Never mind McBurnie, it would scarcely have made a difference if Denis Law in his prime was up front for the hosts, given how seldom they were now able to work the ball into their attacking third.

Enough said i think!

"a poor man's Steven Fletcher"?

Really? That's why one is a jobbing striker in the 2nd tier, and one is the most expensive Scottish player ever, scoring goals against the recent PL champions and looking for all the world like a great player.

Silly haggis-gobblers.

At 23 there is lot more for him to learn & to develop as a player. If he had more attributes he would have been £50 million +, & playing for Everton etc.

According to the market my small ex council house is worth silly money because of where it is, & according to the market £20 million is what you have to pay for a proven Championship striker with over 20 goals to his credit last season.

I think a season under the W/K combination will make him a better player. Its Oli for me rather that Maupay!
