Writing this now as I'm only just calming down and wondered if anybody else was affected?
On Saturday we boarded the 9:25 Train, Sheffield to Doncaster so that we could get the 10:18 direct train to Kings Cross.
We departed Sheffield and had been traveling only a few minutes before a loud bang was heard below us and the train came to a stop. After sitting there for 10mins the conductor came on the tannoy saying something had tripped the electrics and we couldn't get the engine restarted in the 1st carriage... We're about 0.3 miles from Meadowhall.
Turns out a side panel had flew off and hit the wheels and tripped the electrics, but it was lodged tight between the wheels which prevented the train from moving. They realised what had happened and knew the train was going nowhere within 15mins of us stopping.
An engineer was called with some bolt croppers to cut us free.. 'he'll be 15 minutes' was the tannoy announcement.
Anyway, long story short, we got back to Sheffield station at 12:30 after setting off at 9:25. We didn't even reach Meadowhall. They wouldn't let us exit the train, they had no contingency plan to get the passengers off and onto the multiple trains that stopped next to us to wave on the way past. They never sent a couple of buses to even get us to Meadowhall, we were literally stuck for 3hrs.
Back in Sheffield train station, none of the black cab drivers would take us to Doncaster in hope of us getting the 12:55 train to get us in Kings Cross @ 2:40. We tried Uber - 2mins away... 10mins later it hadn't arrived so we sacked it off and headed to the Howard to drown our sorrows.
£60 train tickets (complaint in but no response as yet) + £30 match ticket down the drain.
Was anybody else on the same train or one of the ones behind that were affected?

Looks like I got lucky ,was going on my usual bus ,but we decided on the early (very) train. The bus I was going to go on got to London fine then the driver got locked up for (allegedly) drink driving and the coach didn't come back ,leaving everyone stranded in London. Quite a few got on our train ,but I know a few stayed overnight.
