"Footballs football. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be the game it is." , Garth Crooks circa 1996 used in Guinness advertisement beer matt. Say what?? #poormansCantona

I think you’re using all the right words but I’m not convinced they’re in the right order.

I’m just gutted that tonight I heard Robbie Savage calling Crooks out on Radio 5 for talking rubbish about the Blades.
I mean, Robbie Bastard Savage. The Arch Prince of Wank Puffin. The Crown Cock of Shit Wasp. If that twat has become the voice of football reason, what certainties do we have left to cling to?
he said Sheffield United NGE
He then sat back with a smug smile on his pudgy face
and if I remember correctly after declaring 'NGE' for the first time he waited for somebody to ask what he meant, they walked right into it.Flamboyantly said "Sheffield United, N G E" before the fat smug bastard explained the acronym as if some lyrical genius
You do know he was lined up to sign for us before Robson got the boot..
I might be in the minority here but I actually quite like Robbie and we have certainly grown on him now that he has actually watched us play...plus he shares the same agent as CW
He can be a bit tiresome with his support of his mates, Clough, Hughes and Bruce but he makes a lot of sense with the majority of his comments.
Following Mills being called out and now Crooks, maybe there will be a trend in calling out shit, lazy punditry?
As a contemporary of Crooks', I would just like to add that the shit that bloke had to put up with in his playing days was utterly disgusting. The way he dealt with it and addressed it, was nothing short of amazing. People talk about Regis' influence on the game for black players but I assure you Crooks' contribution was greater. If I didn't know all that I do about his past experiences I would also think he was a bit of a prat for his punditry, but I do so I don't.

Yes he did. Said everyone had the right to an opinion but he disagreed strongly with Crooks that our ‘simple football would get us relegated’Savage called out Crooks then on 606 did he?
I can totally understand why people don’t like him but I think that if you can get through his self promotion, based on his insecurities and actual desire to be better, he makes some good points. Kelly Cates and Ian Wright were a better partnership on 606You could be right about a new intolerance for rubbish punditry. As per comments elsewhere on this thread about Benjamin Bloom, there's so much informed stuff out there from amateurs, these days, and so many platforms to publish it on, that you'd hope it would help raise the bar for those who are paid. Pundits shaming other pundits might be one end of this wedge.
I'll leave Robbie to you, though, Copes. Afraid I find him completely unlistenable. Shrill, rude, hectoring, up himself. Which is a shame, as I used to love 606. Haven't been able to stick it for more than 5-10 mins at a time, in the years since he took it over. Happy to accept that this might be my problem, rather than his!
Well, we are going to struggler. It’s going to be tough, I’m not cleaver and even I know that. Talk about stating the bleeding obvious! My worry is we seem to be struggling worse than Norwich, who have not spent a bean

He’s one of the dinosaurs who refuse to accept that anyone outside of the top 6 or 7 should be allowed in the top division. He’s also one of those southern cunts who look down their noses at anything outside London.
Fuck off Crooks, you ceased to be relevant about 25 years ago.
Am I having a woosh moment?
I think so.Garth Crooks is one of those people that tries to talk in the manner he thinks smart sounds
He's from Stoke.
He's from Stoke.
An excellent podcast, one of the best, shame that Freddie is too busy now but on the other hand maybe a good thing that it ended at the topHaving listened to his podcast with Mathew Sayeed and Freddie Flintoff I completely changed my opinion on him, like you say, very insecure, not the brightest both things he admits but he does try very hard at his job, he has said pundits who don't put the time in and research the clubs they are covering get found out and their opinions not worthy, I think he's right too
I think so.
He's just bitter he's not as good a Country Singer as Conway Twitty.......................
He’s not the only onecrooks looking a bit daft now eh?
I know what you mean but I think a certain allowance has to be made in the same way allowance is given to ex service people with PTSD. What I witnessed on that night in York was absolutely disgusting. He was even getting it from his own players. Transpose that across many years and I am surprised he is still alive. But I do understand where you are coming from.I don't think the two go hand in hand though.
I've sympathy and respect for what all black players have had to endure in this country, particularly in the 70s and 80s, and still to this day both here and probably more so abroad in the modern day.
I dont think that excuses poor and ignorant punditry in the slightest though.
He always reminds me of Ladies Front-BottomWhen I see him, I'm always reminded of Frank Sidebottom

Yeah great city, except in a southerly when it's raining sidewaysAm in Nelson, top if the south. There are another couple of Blades (Blabes) here too. Musical Blade used to be on here was in Auckland and met up with him too.
Love Welly, get iver there whenever i can
Have just read on Wikipedia that he has an obe for services to punditry. That could be the single most incredible thing I've ever seen on the internet.
