On BBC THis Morning, Jamie telling how he was discarded by Man CIty, went to Bury and 'learned how to play footbal, then fortunate to be bought by Seffield United where he enjoyed a great career".
T'would be a great shame if a club with historic background (twice FA Cup winners) and current passionate (albeit small) fan base was to go under due to financial mis-management. Midnight deadline apparently.

There’s clearly an ulterior motive from this bloke at Bury.
He wouldn’t refuse to sell if he was at risk of losing the lot, so I suspect he has a plan for the place after they’re gone.
So, someone either pays up what he wants, or he lets the club go to the wall and gets his money back later down the line.

He’s hoping someone is desperate enough to save them that they offer him more. He will accept some deal before the deadline.
 
The bizzare thing is Steve Dale has an incurable form of leukaemia…..you would think he has enough on his plate without forcing a club into extension through apparent greed?

I didn't recognise him at first. He's aged a bit sInce he was with us.
 
The problem here lies firmly with the EFL. Did they mis-manage Bury's finances? Of course not. But they allowed shysters like Dale and Ken Anderson at Bolton (and a few others) to pass their laughable 'fit and proper persons' criteria. They've allowed totally unsuitable - and financially-inept - people to take clubs over so they 'didn't damage the EFL's brand'.

It's pretty damaging when clubs drop out of the EFL after decades of being in 'the pyramid', all on EFL's watch.
 
Probably far less grief redeveloping the ground for housing than having thousands constantly moaning about a lack of 'investment' into the club.
The really sad fact is that a club could disappear for a sum less than that of one players annual wage in the PL.

I’m not sure about whether I have sympathy towards Bolton or Bury.
Let’s not forget their Chairmen have cheated paying out salaries and buying players they couldn’t afford.

I remember Tom Pope at Port Vale, he was their top scorer, had just won his 5th player of the season for Vale but was out of contract.
Port Vale offered to make him their highest paid player in their history.

They were stunned when Bury made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. So he went there instead of staying at Vale.
Remember at the time Bury’s front 2 being Tom Pope and Leon Clarke
And thinking how on earth can Bury afford them 2 up front.

If both go bust then there’s nothing stopping a phoenix club being formed starting in the non league.

Doesnt he own the land though? So if the club goes to the wall, has a decent piece of real estate to sell to developers?

My sympathy lies totally with the fans, they've done nothing wrong, just supported a club they love and now have a very real possibility of losing it.

That could be it, why sell for a £1 when he can sell the land to Tesco or builders? It would be a disgrace if Bury went out of football because of greed.

I feel bad for those affected who played no part in the downfall. There's player who haven't been paid, fans who have supported the club every way they can, and they don't deserve to lose their club. But rules are there for a reason and clubs can't be allowed to go on forever without paying their dues. I don't feel so bad about that part.
 
Agree about having sympathy for the fans...but no doubts Bury2019 can be set up....so the old Bury is re-formed as a phoenix club playing in the non league.

If there’s demand for football in Bury or Bolton then they’ll always have a club to support.
Didn’t the old Leeds United recently go bust and they just set up under a different name in the same league.

If the premier league donated a players wage every week to each club, we would still have the same problems.

It's easy to blame the riches of the premier league (I'm not saying you are here, but all too often that's where this debate ends up), but the real problem is that clubs continue to pay players far too much money.

No matter how much money trickled down form the premier league, it would just find its' way into players pockets, as each club broke the bank in search of promotion - as Bury have done here.
 
If it was ourselves in trouble I'm sure quite a few would suddenly have a different viewpoint

Lets be fair, a fit and proper test doesn't work if the person hasn't done anything that's not fit and proper. It can say no if they have previous, but it can't see into the future.

According to C5 News tonight, Dale has been involved in ca. 150 companies - the majority of which ended in insolvency.

In 2007, Thaksin Shinawatra passed the 'fit and proper persons' test and took control of Man. City. 'Bent' doesn't come close. The 'authorities' in English football are incompetent at best - that's why our our game is so, er, attractive to all these foreign 'investors'.
