Norwood

Norwood like the rest of the squad has a huge point to prove. But to be rejected twice in consecutive season must have been galling for the lad. He seems determined to make the Prem his permanent home.
 



I thought ollie was pretty poor to average today. A very self-indulgent player who always looks for a hollywood pass and ended up conceded possesion far too often. Meaning we spent another 3/4 mins chasing the ball back. Hes very wasteful at times which is extremely frustrating to watch. Crossing and set piece delivery was also very poor as well although the wind didnt help.

Not that any of it mattered as the final result was decent and Wilder likes him
 
Of the 3 midfielders Lundstram was the best.

All 3 didn't look fast enough but to be fair grew into the game second half.

I think it showed yesterday just how fast paced the PL is and I honestly thought our midfield couldn't get close.
Of the 3 Lundstram is definitely most physical and the most athletic.

I've never been a fan of the flat 3 midfield and we did play much better when Freeman came on. It gave us our identity back.

I think as the season goes on Lundstram may take Norwood or Flecks position. I just feel he has the fitness and physical attributes required. Wilder will want to play with a #10 but I feel to do that, Fleck or Norwood will miss out due to Lundstrams attributes.

I've never seen Ravel play but apparently he likes to sit deep now to dictate the game. I wonder if he may end up taking the other CM spot in the long run.

Could we end up like this:

Baldock - Lundstram - Morrison - Stevens
Freeman

This isn't a knock of Fleck or Norwood but first half particularly, I thought they were way off. Not winning aerial duals, not winning physical duals, not beating them for pace.

Only 1st game so a lot to learn from it.

It was worrying though how Baldock and Robinson's pace all of a sudden didn't appear anything special

Made the most passes and won the ball back 14 times the best in those categories on the pitch as well as multiple key passes. But yeah everything is always a “Hollywood ball”.

The day Lundstram takes Norwood or Fleck’s position is the day we might as well shut the club down

Besic maybe depending on what he shows

Recommend reading Blades Analytics twitter Norwood was the best defensive and passing player on the pitch statistically and fleck weren’t bad either.
 
I think all three of the midfield had a decent game , Firdt half was a bit frenetic I would have given Lunny the higher rating , second half thought Norwood & Fleck linked up a lot better .. Freeman did well when he came on too

He doesn't need to be big and quick, he's so clever with his defensive positioning, puts himself in the perfect place and knows when a foul is needed.

As for him on the ball I'd put that more down to shape yesterday. We're better and he's better as an attacking force when we have a 10, hence his influence when Freeman came on.

I watched him misplace multiple hollywood balls when easier options were on.
He was still wasteful at times. He recieves the ball a lot because he drops deep so as a midfielder i would expect him to have most passes, many were to the back 4.

Lunstram on the other hand created 3 goal scoring opportunities.

You do understand that the ONLY reason any forum exists is for its members to express their opinions?
If the only contributions acceptable are those where the contributor has his or her nose up the managers ringpiece then shut the damn thing down or join NKT.
 
Supposed professional pundits recently voted Frank Lampard as a better manager than Chris Wilder.

Moral of the story is don't always believe what you read on the internet ;) the world is full of experts.

Only League one quality opportunities though ;).

We MIGHT have won had he not started.

On the other hand we might have lost by 2 or 3 goals with the attendant loss of squad morale impacting on the next few games.

In CW/AK we should trust.

Agree with you but No one on here professes to be an expert and if they do it's in their head.
That said most have watched the game for a long time and have informed opinion.
You might not like that opinion just as I frequently don't but everyone has the right to express it.

CW/AK have an informed opinion, they are paid handsomely to produce results.

In saying that player X or Y is not fit to start in our team, implies by inference that CW/AK are also wrong.
I would happily pay to watch a team chosen by CW/AK as they have provided the best entertainment for decades.

Some say that they think Frank lampard is a better manager, statistics to date would prove otherwise.

Some say that Billy Sharp is only a League one striker, statistics have just shown otherwise.

When these opinions are expressed. this forum is outraged.

I find it very hard to judge any player on that game, especially when you think of how apprehensive most of them must have been feeling. , 8 of the starting 11 players have never been in the premiership before, and you can add the manager to that .
Personally in their shoes I would have been bricking myself...…..:eek:

I thought that looked a ropey challenge. Does VAR only check if a yellow should be red? I thought that it would get called back but nothing happened (I don’t think - I was a bit distracted by a baby as I watched it).

They lingered for a while on a great defensive header, Egan I think, to see if somehow it might be a pen, but missed a late studs up lunge that caught a player 100% it wasn’t even a glancing blow.

They were playing in front of fewer than 11,000 people and against Bournemouth. It’s hardly what you’d call a baptism of fire and I’d be disappointed if they were overwhelmed by it.

I thought Fraser's performance was a disgrace and , if he had been playing in a Blades shirt , I would have been ashamed .

It's one thing being a diving , cheating little twat but being dirty with it takes him into a whole different category . Add to that the fact that he's got a face that you'd never get tired of slapping and you can understand why he's already in pole position for my Most Hated Player of the Year .

I know there's a long way to go , but I don't think anyone will overtake him .

I hope he gets a suitably warm welcome when they come to the Lane ...........
 
Thought Norwood did ok...don't forget we were sat in keeping our shape and were playing more on the counter..He was organising,orchestrating things even when he wasn't on the ball,and tried to force things more when we were 1 down.
Lunny did well...I think he's useful when we play like that,as he's decent picking out the front lads with long passes...he does tend to pass backwards a lot though.
Though Fleck did ok aswell to be fair...Stevens was class all day,looked like he's played there all his career on that showing.

do some of you guys actually realise that you don't have to be actually on the ball to be playing well? a lot of this, especially at this level is about positioning, something Norwood excels at
