Is the worst invention ever. That was horrific. Every time an iffy tackle happened or a arm made contact. Every time someone went down in the box. The goals. Will someone be sent off. Will the goal stand? Will a random penalty be awarded. This is going to completely ruin the joy of football. bye bye spontinaity.

Its marmite for sure, but surely matches being refereed correctly is a good thing in the long run?
 
It's not about disruption for me. It's not knowing if a goal is a goal for several seconds after it happened. Not knowing whether some random incident will end up with a red card or penalty. Every time it went to VAR I feared the worst.
 
I think VAR is gonna help us this season. Little clubs used to get the shit decisions go against them. VAR will hopefully stop that. If we had VAR in Warnock's season, we'd have stayed up. I can't remember many dodgy decisions that went in our favor that season, whereas we had a few go against us.

It is nerve-wracking though that they may find McBurnie's beard is a few centimetres offside or something.

You're right.

This is English Football, not American Football. We want spontaneity, excitement! Not a bloody pause after every goal whilst we wait for the video to check it. And what a farce in the City game last night...next bit from the BBC site...

The away fans started celebrating wildly - until 'VAR in review' appeared on the big screen. After a few moments of checking, the goal was ruled out with Sterling's shoulder just beyond the offside line.

City fans were understandably more cautious when Sterling stuck the ball in the back of the net soon after and there were ironic cheers when 'VAR in review' once again appeared on the big screen.

But this time the goal stood and from then on the fans were in playful mood, occasionally chanting "VAR, VAR". But frustrations started to creep in again when Aguero's penalty had to be retaken.

If its use in this game is anything to go by, the controversy over VAR is not going to go away anytime soon.

Fans need to consider not whether it advantaged/disadvantaged them in the game today - but is it absolutely necessary and do you want this in the game?

I don't. I liked it how it was. It was spontaneous. Now it's not. Simple as.

Football is what it is because of the injustice. Every club has a tale of woe due to an incorrect decision. It's part of the romance and mythology around the sport. Sure, allow the refs to have the ability to go to VAR if they choose but VARing everything just ruins the moment.
 
It's a pity it is not used when players are diving, Bournemouth players went down very easily something we will have to get used to in this League
 
I must admit it took me a few seconds to really celebrate when Sharp scored, but ultimately if the technology is there to make sure the right decisions are made then it's stupidity to not want it. We'll get used to it anyway but it'll also get less intrusive as it beds in more and the process becomes smoother.

My view is that it worked perfectly today.

Ref got all the big decisions right and VAR confirmed it.

Yes it adds a few more seconds anxiety around big decisions but I was generally relieved
 
I jumped out of my seat when Billy prodded it in the goal, then realised it had to be checked by VAR. Yeah, it wasn't too intrusive in our match but I still hate it.
 
Would it be better to have a Wimbledon style system were each team's get 2 or 3 options to goto VAR each game?

I Agree it's taken some of the fun out of the game.

To be honest, I completely forgot about VAR, and when I'd calmed down, was just waiting for the yellow card for the celebrations

I was waiting for the yellow too. Did he get carded? I didn;t see it happen.
 
Fat Samuel on Sunday Supplement at the moment moaning that the West Ham penalty had to be retaken because of VAR - his complaint? That no one in the directors' box knew why it had to be retaken. It just sounds like sour grapes. I'm no fan of VAR but that's not an argument. He's saying that people at the stadium should be better informed about decisions than those watching on telly - when has that ever been the case? You always have to guess why a ref has given a decision, it's usually obvious, but you never actually know.
He's given the example that in the 50s and 60s the person who went to the game and then went down to the pub would be the one questioned about how the game had been. Well, you stupid twat, that's because he could say whatever bollocks he wanted and no one could prove otherwise.
If this idea gains traction, it would mean the VAR ref would have his comments broadcast over the tannoy, like in cricket, which would delay the game even more, or you'll get explanations up on the scoreboard, which is more distraction from the game.
All because his team got hammered 5-0 :fattwat:
 
It was disappointing that the ref and linesman missed Ake's handball early in the first half which would have got us a free kick not too far from the penalty box
