I’m sad. Echo what others have said; one of my favourite ever United players in what’s been my favourite ever era following the club. Will be weird seeing him turning out for Stoke.

Think we’ve all got a soft spot for Duffy but can’t think of too many players that Wilder has let go and I’ve subsequently thought ‘he got that one wrong’.

Hes just really gone down in my estimation on this one mate. Gone from a god to a mere human.
Ok so we dont know the full story but I believe this should have been resolved. Duffy has been a very important player for us, I dont think we'd be in the prem without his contribution.
I just believe its left a real mark on a superb player, one who gave his all for us.
It just seems shitty to me.

Totally agree but this has been in the offing for a while. The bouncing goal really put Wilders nose out of joint in my opinion.

He has never given Duffy credit for it, in interviews he’s belittled it as to why we think Duffy is a hero when Clarke scored two. I know Coutts got injured not long after but wilder moved away from Duffy quite quickly and for the rest of the season. Season after he started lundstram and Evans before having to go back to Duffy.

He makes our formation work and I know I will get pelters for this post but I am gutted for the lad.

He got to this level, late in his career, is 33 without much career earning and a young family. The way he has been bombed out for asking for extra money and a year for me is shit

One thing I learned about half way through life, is if somebody fucks up give them the opportunity to correct their actions without destroying them or embarrassing them and hopefully they will repay you one day (to be fair most people just think they are as fly as fuck for getting away with shit) but I know allowing people to save face is important and leads to a better resolution.

Think id rather take the managers word on this
Didn't take long for the faithful to start to turn on him
Thought it would take a few defeats first but i suppose someone has to get in there first

There is no doubt Duffy was fantastic for us as we were for him.
It is hard to see him leave .....but we’ve moved on.....Wilder has to be ruthless and make proper football business decisions, which he believes are right for the club.....some he will get right....a few wrong.....I don’t think he’s got this wrong.....we need and have a younger alternative.....well done and thank you Mark.....good luck at Stoke.

Wilder is suppsed to be a top "man manager". I think that generally accepted.
This calls that into doubt for me.
We'll never know if it's a wrong decision. But my personal thoughts are that it is.

I love wilder, I just felt he could have handled this better. He publicly chastised Duffy when he didn’t need to. If you want to have a pop stick to the topic at hand
 
He's been an absolute pleasure to watch these last three seasons,someone who got my arse off my seat more than any other player.I'd say he's been my favourite of the Wilder era,no mean achievement considering the quality we've seen in our team.I really do think he was capable of offering us something in The Premier League but we'll never know.Shame it ended this way but we move on regardless.

Mark Duffy,I wish you every success at Stoke...You are a legend that a generation of Blades will remember with fondness.My avatar is redundant now..Will I change it? Will I f**k,best midfield I ever saw.Good luck with your new venture.

Only wilder and Duffy know the reasons behind this and I'll take the managers word every time ,regardless of the player involved
He does everything with dignity and respect if Duffy's been bombed out then it's for a reason
 



I wonder if this film will ever get boring.

I don't think so. It ranks amongst the greatest moment (and timing) of all time. He'll go down in history for me just for this.

I only posted because I hope that rather than just using youtube, people save these films on their computers (which takes far more effort than viewing) - I don't know how to do it.

When I got home after the pub, and by the next day there were hundreds of Weds films from their phones, and slowly got deleted one by one, I hope someone collected some! There are now only a few left.

This is up with the Leeds one in my United youtube favourites... bad idea watching this now. It's 10pm, bad news... I think probably 90% of those viewing figures are me! 😂
The official version has that leeds fan commenting, but this film, with this commentary is gold. (someone copy it!!)

It's not a race, it's a discussion forum where people will have differing opinions.
Wilder has worked miracles but hes no God and I wont follow anyone blindly.
 
When the Chrissie Wilder story is all done and dusted at Bramall Lane. He will probably go down as the best manager in our history. Maybe eventually immortalised in bronze outside our fancy new stand. Well Mark Duffy can rightly boast that he was Wilders first signing in the renaissance of SUFC.
 
Thanks for what you've done for us over three seasons, it's been an absolute pleasure to watch.

I'd love to have seen you have the chance to run out at Anfield but at your age with your contract you were never going to justify another contract at this stage.

All those other options amounted to a season long loan deal.

I'm with Wilder all the way on this despite being disappointed Duffy's United career ended like this.

Nobody bigger than the club etc etc.
 
As has been said before, we don't know what happened in that meeting and likely never will get a conclusive answer. Everything is conjecture and going over and over it doesn't really help. That being said, personally I wonder if Duffy got a bit of bad advice from someone (agent, wife, demon on his shoulder) reminding him that his time playing was probably coming to an end and he needed to secure his future. So he embarked on an ill-advised attempt to get some assurances about money or playtime for what was probably his last season and did so at a really bad time. The annoying part for me is that at this point the situation was entirely salvageable but it feels like pride got in the way and one side or another (or both!) just wouldn't back down. A real sense of cutting your nose of to spite your face.

It's sad. I think Duffy could have played a role this coming season, maybe not as the the heart of the team as he once was but definitely as an impact guy who would have lifted the team and the crowd in situations. I know there's not really room for sentimentality in the season ahead but I really do feel sad that he won't get the chance to run out at Anfield. Wilder may have made a mistake, he may be innocent in all this and it's just a shit situation where his words have been misinterpreted. I don't personally think he has it in for Duffy. He wouldn't have made such a big romantic deal about Duffy's background after promotion if he did have some kind of grudge. It just seems like a shite situation where you wish someone had given both a crack and told them they were being daft.

I hope he gets on well at Stoke and I hope they realise how to use him properly rather than sticking him out of position then whinging that he's crap. I hope he smashes another one or two in at Hillsborough. I also hope we get on perfectly well without him. Don't want this to be a I told you so situation.

So you dont know all the facts, yet you're straight on the blokes back thats got us where we are! Outstanding bit of bias pal. Try not to cry too much into your Mark Duffy pillow.
