Strange comment from someone who keeps saying he’s ‘not convinced’ by our 24 goal record signing.
What's strange about that? I'm not convinced by McBurnie either, I think we've paid massively over the odds for a Championship striker.

Like always, give it a few games without Duffy and Wilder will be forced to put him back in. We saw it many times la

😂😂😂

Have I said so ?

Nope.

Speculated either way ?

For sure.

Far too many folks quick to take “sides” when all of the facts are not presented. That’s all I was picking up on.

UTB
True but in the absence of fact you have to look at what is most likely. The idea that Duffy politely enquired about his future and Wilder reacted by kicking off, publicly criticising him, dropping him and not giving him a squad number seems hard to believe.

I can accept that Duffy had genuine concerns and that he probably didn’t intend to create the situation he has but something has gone off and it looks like Wilder is pretty annoyed about it. With his record of man management I just find it very hard to believe his annoyance isn’t justified.

The whole situation is very disappointing.

The other large assumption going around is the highly praised man-manager known for creating a strong team bond and spirit, decided to kick a player he’d been largely lauding since the end of last season to the curb over a single meeting where he asked for more money.
Do you know any manager worth his salt in any field who would do this over a cheeky request for a pay rise or extension?

We clearly know very few of the facts in that matter, yet we seem to have formed partisan sides amongst ourselves for and against. There’s more to this than we’re aware of, and the club and player don’t seem to want to air it in public, so the club deal with it and we move on.

Football is a weird business isn't it?

Imagine any of us not being happy with our current terms of employment and not being able to speak to the boss about it without fear of being shown the door. Farcical.

Personally I think both sides of this can share blame. Duffy shouldn't have flaunted potential interest at other clubs when his demands weren't met and Wilder shouldn't have so quickly forgotten Duffy's contribution over the last three years and been as knee jerk in his reaction, just because he despises footballers' agents.
No offence but that's horseshit.

If my boss was in the middle of a huge shitstorm at work - one that I was fully aware of and that needed to take place in order to secure the future of the department - and I went in asking to talk about getting a pay rise and improved terms, she'd tell me to fuck off out of it, and she'd be right to do so.

Yeah and if she then kicked you out of the team structure you was working in, made you work with the office juniors and told you to fuck off and find another job she would be up before a tribunal before you could say "constructive dismissal".

What if he'd gone in and said "give me more money because I've got someone else who'll give me more money elsewhere" and she put you on gardening leave while your notice ran down, but you were actually bluffing?

We're talking 1 years notice and at least a million quid in payment in lieu for your scenario to have any validity. United didn't have a pot to piss in until this season, now we're chucking it around a million at a time as if there was no tomorrow according to you. If that's the case someone in United's HR or finance department needs to call Wilder in for a chat.

Maybe the third, but the first two? Doubtful.

The idea that Duffy politely enquired about his future
Not so sure you could frame it like that. If he asked if possibility of improved contract out there that's fine. But if you're sprouting lines about other clubs willing to offer better money (which is seemingly not true now) then that seems very close to an ultimatum.

Which footballer made to train with the kids because of a fall out has ever been to a tribunal, let alone won one, for constructive dismissal?

He may not have done that. Probably just asked for a rise*, got a no and they had a row.

(* in a note from the Mrs.....)

No idea but if you read through the posts from #414 onwards rather than just the one you've picked on you'll see an exchange of views on possible outcomes based upon something similar happening in the workplace.

I've read them all thank you. None of any relevance to Duffy's situation.

Have you been questioning receptionists again?

Unless we have changed his terms and conditions or clearly bullied him there is no chance in hell a contructive dismissal claim can be made.

I appreciate Duffy asked for one, and has been knocked back, but has anyone been lucky enough to get a new contract and improved terms in close season?

Splendid!

Now, just for your information, I've spotted a post by WWF on another thread which I'm surprised you haven't zeroed in on already, a stock of Red Bull on one hand and Kleenex on the other, all ready for one of your famous all-nighters. When you've wrecked that thread then please feel free to have another attempt on this one.

I see you've had your internet spinach.

All I l've said is that the tribunal posts aren't relevant to the thread. And they aren't. As analogies go, they aren't much cop and here you are all aggressive as usual.

The minute Chris hands Duffy a contract because he’s asked for one is the minute he risks losing the dressing room. Simple as that
But if someone was to approach me in a polite fashion, with a request, and I am an understanding leader / manager, do I ostracise said individual for making said request, or do I politely respond “not for now fella, come and see me in x weeks” ?
I think the second quote answers the first, even though it was posted first of the two.

Totally agree. Wilder also shouldn't have gone mardy-arsing to the press.

Not being privy to their conversation means we can only draw subjective conclusions.
Sadly sometimes, the stronger the friendships the bigger the fall-outs and the more chance of both parties, 'cutting off their noses ... '.
