Suppose it'll be full mostly so it won't matter but it'd be nice.

I sometimes wonder if it'd look odd if the made the Pukka Pie corner red white and black, because white and black fade better than red, so if they just had a middle section in red, with a one or two chair pinstripe, and then white, it'd be easier to maintain the appearance.

Suppose that's pointless really though because I imagine it'll be the first thing to go in any future redevelopment of the Kop.

I think the Pukka pies corner should be raised to the ground. Worst piece of modern football stadium architecture I’ve ever seen. Totally spoils our wonderful historic ground

You seem to be suggesting a capacity reduction because a new stand would need a steeper rate and more leg room, so less seats.
It would also be a massive inconvenience because some current season ticket holders will effectively receive a stadium ban for 2 years
And we lower our income for 2 years due to reduced capacity.

The South stand upper tier would give us an extra 5,400 seats but rebuilding the Kop and corner stand would lose us 11,200 seats.
So where do we put the remaining 5,800 fans from the Kop?

Where did I mention more corporate facilities? The kop needs doing from scratch because it’s terrible, the corner even worse. Gonna do it then May aswell do it properly

TBF the Westfield staff struggle with bottle tops. The whole organisation of staff is so poor adding valuable seconds (minutes) to every customer.

I went to pigs away and that away end was absolutely rammed b4 the game, yet it took less than 5 mins to get served - the reason organisation (I know ironic really) and contactless payments

When you say properly what are you actually proposing?
Would you want a double tier or single?
I’m assuming you want a steeper rake with more leg room, that means a reduction in capacity.
If we get rid of the corner stand then that’s another 900 seats gone, lowering capacity.

If we built it from scratch then there’ll be loads of space on multiple levels under the stand.
What do you intend to do with all that space? The normal method is to try and bring in income via corporate facilities.

I think we should be considering all the bad points of the current Kop stand and simply address them in the most cost effective way.
So we need spacious concourse areas all under cover, massive toilet, kiosk and bar areas.
Also get rid of the pillars so everyone has a clear few and all the new seats will be at a slightly steeper rake.
Basically give the Kop 21st century facilities, that’s all it needs and of course adding extra seats.

The Kop should always be the cheapest area in the ground, so it should be built to a budget not made all fancy and posh.
Also think it’s really important to retain affordable seating, the fancy seats/ facilities can be in the new South stand, sold at a higher price.

I don't think (unfortunately) the Kop will ever be totally rebuilt. They will just put the extra rows on the back of the stand, and add the new roof on. - As per the plans. The bonus of this would also mean much of the building work could go on while the season is on. The new part could all but be built up behind the Kop. (similar to the Liverpool project on their main stand.

The same probably applies to the South Stand re building the intimal structure while the season is on going.

Either way it's going to be a risk, as if we go down they extra capacity probably wouldn't be needed. I'd prefer us to probably hold off, and then have plans to start next season if we are still up. with the plan for the stand to be open for the beginning of the 21/22.

Which one gets done 1st?

I've no idea, as it would depend largely on the ROI of each project.

One possible advantage of the SS tier would be, if we did go down and demand wasn't their we can effectively cut that tir off, so we wouldn't have to pay for staff to be up there when capacity doesn't demand (similar to what Leeds do with theirs.
 
I don’t necessarily want a bigger stadium, just a better one. Many will counter that by saying we need bigger stadium with more corporate facilities, thus bringing in more money to the club. That is not my concern, I am merely a punter who knows that the Kop in it’s present form is simply not good enough for a 21st century football stadium in the so called “best” league in the the world.
 
As I've said before South Stand first makes the most sense on all logical levels.

From a practical point of view that would then add justification to totally raising the Kop and building from scratch (we'd only have a net loss then of around 5,000 seats, rather than 10,500 if the Kop was started first, during construction).

A new Kop should be steeper, single tier, have provision for safe standing (Everton are going to do this at their new ground) and of course a better concourse. Given the size of the stand it'd make sense to have two concourse levels. The question then is what else could the club do to generate extra revenue? Having boxes on the Kop wouldn't be appropriate. There could potentially be options to open commercial units on the ground level of the stand - we could even copy Spurs and get a local brewery onboard.

When did we all become prime donnas? Its football, it’s not meant to be posh and comfortable, suck it up and get on with it. The only change I’d make (other than expanding) is bringing back the blokes with coolers selling bottles to cut the queues.

We should be thinking about increasing the capacity at the Lane. The demand to fill it would be there if we were ambitious and things went well for us. Its not over the top for us to be thinking of a 46k capacity stadium for example.

South Stand needs to be done first as this is the hub of the club and the face which all our guests and future potential signings will see. Make it bold and brash and it shows that we have confidence in ourselves as a club.

I get the argument that it make sense to add on to the back of the existing kop, and there are many valid reasons why this makes sense. However in a perfect world it would be demolished, the historic spoil heap removed and proper foundations put in and a fit for purpose 21st century stand built in its place with a slightly steeper rake and higher elevation. This would really bring our stadium into a top quality stadium again. It is my personal preference, but it needs to be last on the list behind the team, the training academy facilities, and the South Stand being improved.

If we get it right on the pitch and off it now, we could really set the club up for many years and our children / grandchildren to enjoy for many years after we have all shuffled off to the Shoreham Street in the sky.

I think the powers need to look to modernise it, bring it more up to date, and get shut of the big dated concrete stantions the adhorn the front of the ground, look more toward how the academy stands, that's a decent looking building in my opinion.??

Don't disagree, but, now we've bought Mcburnie, you need to think of the electric bill, oh, and that few hours we call Daylight, that would do posh light bulbs at 2pm on satdy afternoon, no good whatsoever.
 
If we,sorry when we stay up quite comfortably at the end of the season,and with the young players we have,with a full premier season under their belt.would we need to spend loads on players ,maybe 1 or 2 additions.And then get the kop sorted .

I must admit I have often had this feeling that the ground wouldn't be greatly upgraded, bit of work here and there, lots of positive talk about one day when we are in the premier league and then give it a couple of years, you know lets be sure we need it, it's just how we are, until this transfer window, things seem to be changing, the faith we seem to have in the club,well most of us, is definitely on the rise,nobody expected us to spend half of what we have so suddenly I am expecting positive comments about the rebuilding of the ground in a positive way, Wilder and Knill have a lot to answer for.
 
Think if we stay up or even become a bit of yo yo side you can stick another ten thousand on the attendance just from tourists and Fairweather types
In fact I think we have knocked our hardcore up by quite a bit from the 15000 we used to have when I was growing up to the 20 -25 k who will turn up every week
It's not inconceivable that we could regularly get crowds of 35-40 k averages if we were doing ok and had the capacity

Took my nippers to their first United game. Sat down the front near the wheelchair fans, Thought they'd get a decent view and only moderate swearing.
One of the carers was a gobby old fishwife effing and blinding at the away end fans. First time I've heard a woman shouting c**t in public. lol
 
In the Mail today (can't find link) that 'promotion is costing Sheffield United more than they thought'. New floodlights and new dugouts (13 seats was fine in the Championship, but PL requires 14).

I reckon we could probably fill a 40,000 capacity stadium as things stand now. Demand for tickets currently outweighs availability and we could easily sell out 40k for visits of spurs, man utd, liverpool etc.

If we become a stable PL club for the next 5-10 years surely we should be looking at an overall capacity of 45k or (and dare I say it) a new ground??? I would be against a new ground BTW!!!
