Since our relegation from the prem we have got rid of many players. Which one would you say we have missed the most?

For me its Jags by a mile. I didnt really fully appreciate what he did for the team until he'd gone. He then went on the show the rest of English football just what a top class and under-rated player is. What a pity he got injured when he did. I really was gutted for the guy. He had just crept into the full England set up and had a cup final to look forward to - what a shame for him.

If Jags was back in this current Blades team we would piss promotion i reckon. He'd be the difference between top 2 and scratching around for a play off place.

Jags will always be a Blades Legend.

But where would he be playing in this team that would piss promotion?

In my opinion Jag's best position was always at Centre Half. But with the exception of a few games last season and this, the partnership of Morgs and Killa was the best in the league last year and this is as good as any other in the Division. So we wouldn't need him there. Premier League, perhaps we'd see the difference, but not this division.

So would he be Centre Mid? He was a very good player there in the promotion season and was voted 4-4-2 player of the season, but would he be that much of a difference?

Back to the question, it would have to be a goal scorer or creative player. Hulse would have got us goals.

But as an outside bet, perhaps CKR could have really took off in this division.

Agree with all the above but can't really see the point of this thread Casper. I mean is there really any other answer than Jags?

I mean we really missed Hulse mark 1 (i.e. before injury) but he played for us after and couldn't recreate any form.

Jagielka should be played as a central defender. When he is played there he doesn't only perform defensive duties, he gets forward and actually contributes in midfield as well. His pace and positional sense allowed him to do this. It's was almost like having an additional midfield player on the pitch.

I agree. CKR had that touch of something special about him, the ability to do the unexpected. Shame he got all 'Billy BigTime' (he scored in the Champions League, you know)...

Totally agree about Jags, fantastic player, but seeing as though defensively we have been pretty strong since coming down, have we really missed him the most. Killa gets forward a bit too. And in the promotion season he played midfield

So we miss Jags as a midfield player?

I'd agree with Colin Kazim-Richards. In the early days after our relegation, I was getting quite excited about the prospect of CKR in the Championship as his second half of the Premiership season showed a lot of promise - which has since been shown at Fenerbahce. In the Robson era, I was always worried about the lack of pace and CKR would have provided that in abundance.

Jags: we've missed him but we have done well in his position, i.e. CB, with Killa and Morgs.

They're the big two. You could argue that we miss the likes of an in-form Danny Webber or Steve Kabba from the season before as well. I thought that after a season in the Premiership that Webber would have ripped the CCC to pieces. Instead we signed Sharp and felt we had to play him which set back Webber big time. In the end, he just drifted to the end of his contract. Pity.

Joe Shaw, only Paul Stancliffe ever came close to replacing him!

One of our problems is that we have had many good quality players over the seasons, but rarely have we had them all at the same time.
There are numerous that deserve a mention,Doc Pace,Alan Woodward to name two but there are many others but the three best players ever to wear the red and white imho are Jimmy Hagan, Joe Shaw and Tony Currie.
UTB:)

Jags would have fitted perfectly into this midfield. Monty protecting the back four and Jags in front of him pulling the strings. I agree his best position is centre back but in the Champ (as proved last time) hes a quality midfield player too.

Its not just his place in the team though, Jags in and around the dressing room etc would give the players a lift. By all accounts he's a top bloke and people like that are excellent to have in the dressing room. It gives the whole place a lift.

I liked Kazim Kazim as well but he was a luxury player in my opinion. He's the type of player that only makes a difference in a good team. I doubt our fortunes would be a lot better with him in the side now.

Got to be either Jags or Hulse for me. If we had that pair we would be in the top 3 or 4 every time. Jags was always going to move on though. You can't keep that quality forever when you're a championship club.

Jags played his worst football for the club whilst partnered with Monty in the midfield. His passing was never good enough to be a creative midfielder.
He was OK as the defensive midfielder alongside Tonge as he got around the pitch and is a fine tackler.

No, we miss his ability to cover two positions at once. But he only does this when played as a central defender. When played there he performs all his defensive duties to a high standard (in my view much better than Kilgallon), but also contributes in midfield. It's like having a twelfth man.

I wont go back that far to when Jags went, but what I will say is, I believe we would possibly have had a couple of more points on the board if Paddy had been in goal this season.

Paddy has his faults, but all in all, a decent keeper and I think we have missed him!

I'd say comparing with last season, we're missing Kenny the most. His solid presence at the back was probably taken for granted.

Yes Paddy was totally taken for granted. Many people who complained about him not commanding his area now realise how effective he was.

He was mainly the reason that we were strong in defence last season.

Some of the clangers dropped by bunn earlier on in the season may have seen us nearer the top two perhaps, we have really missed paddy I think.

I disagree.....I think Killa, Morgs, Naughton & Walker were the reason we were so strong in defence! Paddy is a good shot stopper but poor from crosses & at commanding his area. Personally, I think his performances dipped in the two seasons before he was banned. Unfortunately, Bunn & Bennett have failed to impress so far either. Hopefully, Bunn will gain confidence and come good.
