Confess your unpopular opinions regarding SUFC

Bournemouth aren’t a a million miles away from our relegation rivals; if Mousset can’t get near their first XI he’s probably going to be a bit shit.

Considering they had a 16goal Wilson, a 14goal King and a £17m, England u/21 Solanke in their artillery, it was always going to be hard to break into the starting 11.

I don’t think Callum Robinson is very good

Did you see him play against us at Bramall Lane? PNE were crap that day (comeback notwithstanding), but Robinson’s ability to carry the ball and drive in from left wing was outstanding.

My unpopular opinion - Billy Sharp should start very few away games next season.

My biggest fear is that some ignorant prat is going to move BDTBL to some industrial estate in the middle of nowhere, and flog off our lovely ground to build flats or something. This might be done in the name of 'progress' by someone who isn't 'parochial', but it would be an absolute bloody tragedy. Coming to BDTBL can still be fun even in the bad times, but that isn't true of very many modern grounds.

Sorry if someone's said this before in this thread. Not read all 32 pages!

I always prefer the away kit as I hate red/white stripes.

However last year at Xmas I said if we get promoted to the Premiership I’ll buy the home kit next year,it arrived today and looks quite good👍

I was in this boat but seeing how he has played in the first 2 friendlies, I'm deferring any more comments for now. Whether he can step up to the Prem? Well we're all still guessing about everybody so again no problems there either.

After seeing him play for us today,I have changed my mind, think he will be a big asset.

I thought Mickey Adams was poorly treated and that if we'd have had another five games we'd have avoided relegation

I don’t think we are as big of a club as some on here and in general think. We are a medium sized club with higher than average attendances for a club our size. We have potential to be a bigger club, City centre club, the proper Sheffield club but decades of miss management and shite leave us where we are. We haven’t won owt (worth winning) in most if not all of our lifetimes. It pains me to see our fans belittle clubs like Ipswich it just makes me cringe.
Unfortunately we have to keep thinking we’re a big club.....because nobody else seems to think so.

Everyone has at least one I reckon which goes against the tide, not looking for a debate about the issues themselves but interested what people come up with.

I'll start:

I think Kevin Blackwell was an excellent manager for us

That'll take some beating! :D

When Suffo scored a hat trick against Grimsby I thought he was the new Deane. Even got my comment on the old BU in the programme. Shows what I know

I've never considered us a 'big club' in footballing terms, but to me personally there's no bigger club. Maybe for some theres no difference, and that's fine.

Big is the wrong word I think in most cases.

Big should be preserved for the here and now.

Man U, Citeh, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal are big clubs in our country.

We're not a "big club", we're a fairly large traditional, historic club.

If you've not maintained top flight status and won something within a decade, I think you're barred from being a big club unless you get to a major European final or something.

You can become a "big club" though, as Man City, Chelsea and Spurs show.

It’s all relative really. In L1 we were a giant, in Champ we were big, in Prem we are neither.

I agree, will bag a couple but we need to move on.

Same, here, if you look at Adams' record before joining the Blades it was excellent, promotion with Brighton, took Leicester to the PL. Like Wilder he was Sheffield born, and a fan, and he played for the Blades youth team. He'd inherited a poor squad, and wasn't given the backing to strengthen. There was some improvement but the crowd were getting right on his back and that of the team. I was amazed at the dislike aimed at Adams. He gave it his all, and I agree that with another five games he could have got us safe. I reckon he'd have got us back up from L1 too, sooner rather than later if he hadn't been sacked. It's sad that today to most Blades fans Adams is still called Alehouse Micky, ie his teams play like pub teams) and no one respects his achievements in the game despite him being a Blade.

Given a similar timespan and budget, Wilder might have struggled to keep that team in the second tier.

I don’t think he’d have kept us up if we’d had another twenty games.
We were a shitshow of a club when he joined us. Joke managers wasting money left right and centre, with an absent owner who trusted the running of the club to the wrong people. It’s no wonder Speed couldn’t wait to get out.

I wouldn’t have minded if he’d been given the following season to sort it out and get us back up. To get rid and replace him with a manager who’s cv was worse was yet another folly.

Adams' time in charge is discussed here

Our midfield will get crusified this year. The gap in quality i think will be far too much. they will get overrun everygame and we will resort to hoofing the ball up to the strikers out of sheer panic and thus chasing the ball back for nearly 90mins.

Everybody will get crucified by the big teams just hope we dont against burnley and brighton :eek:

Big is beautiful. Sheffield clubs should merge. Always thought so.

The only merging with statements like that would seem to be the one between your head and your arsehole.

I think you are a legend ......... in your own mind.

Where are the quality posts you are so fond of and promised us ?

I have since, seeing him play for us at Northampton, altered my opinion of the lad.

I do not know which post it was, but I have admitted that I was wrong.
We came to the same opinion at the same time on Robinson however this thread was for people to express 'unpopular opinions' (which you did), not to disagree with them.

It is an unpopular opinion and that's the theme of the thread. It's years since we had the debate on here or maybe it was Bladesmad. :tumbleweed:

Whilst they were both great for us in the Championship, i don't think that either McGoldrick or Norwood are good enough for the Premier League and don't expect either of them to play many games for us after the end of September. But i hope that I'm wrong!
