Avoiding relegation worth at least 120 million?

Maths isn’t my strong point but I think avoiding relegation will be worth at least 120 million to us. If this is true, you can see why we are splashing a bit of cash.

If we get relegated this season, we receive 40 million in the first year we are relegated plus 35m for the second season in the second tier. But if we stay up we are guaranteed about 100 million next season as a PL member and 100 million every subsequent season we survive, plus, if we are relegated, a third payment of 15 million in our third season outside the top flight.

So if we are relegated this season we receive 75 million over two seasons. If we avoid relegation this season but are relegated next season we are guaranteed at least 190 million.

Looking at the odds (20 teams three get relegated) we have a decent chance. But in my opinion there are six teams that can’t get relegated. The odds of it happening are miniscule. A terrible season for them would be finishing in mid-table. If any of them ever did get into serious relegation difficulty, I can see the PL changing the rules rather than allowing them to drop out of the exclusive club. They are Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, the two Manc clubs and Liverpool.

So that leaves us and thirteen others to fight to avoid the three relegation places. I genuinely think that we’ve got as good a chance as most of the others. Problem is, many of the top knobs at the PL don’t want us here. They’d prefer Leeds, Sunderland, Derby, anyone but us. What gives me hope is that they surely don’t want Bournemouth up there, and probably Burnley too, but they are still there.

I’d love it if we had a fantastic season and nicked a Europa League place from Spurs, for example. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility if Wilder gets us playing as a unit. More likely is bottom six, though I don’t think we’ll be relegated unless we have similar luck to 2007

I think that realistically we will be fighting to keep out of the bottom 3 all season, but have every chance of avoiding the drop under CW/AK.

Absolutely agree with you about it being vital that we avoid relegation back to the Champ. The 3 from 14 to go down is probably a bit Ott I'd say 3 from about 8-10.
We have an incredible opportunity to change the course of history and establish the club by staying in the PL for even just 3 or 4 seasons.
Look at Watford, Palace, Burnley, Bournemouth etc and we can be successful if we speculate now.

Far as I know Scudamore has retired and no one has replaced him yet. But it's still a southern-based old boys network made up of fans of the London clubs. The two Manc clubs and Liverpool generate massive incomes so they aren't eager to see any of these clubs drop out. Money's the main concern for them, and they would prefer the PL to be populated by clubs with "global appeal". Bournemouth coming up and staying up must have been a bit of a shock.

Being the only Yorkshire team, Chris Wilder, an old established club on it's way back, the way we play, I think EPL (and Sky) are quite looking forward to us being in there to be honest.
From what I've read, even the journalists at the telegraph, the times and guardian and a few pundits on the Sunday Morning Sky review seem to relish us being there. Sky just need each game to have enough 'pull' to keep its subscribers and worldwide audience.
I think the 2019 Sheffield United package is interesting enough and if we give it a fair crack, they will want us to stay up. The Warnock (no disrespect) Blades and Cardiff style did not appeal to them. Neither did Stoke.
Though there's no evidence whatsoever that the EPL in anyway influences matches to get teams relegated - we'd probably just get minimum TV coverage in graveyard slots against other unwatched teams.

I'd agree with that, I can see this 'big 6' thing start to break up this year, it might only be a big 3 with those you mention getting into the ruck with the likes of Wolves, Everton, Leicester (depends on whether Maguire stays).

Wilders attitude is totally different.....we gave Leicester a close game and deserved a draw.
Instead of being good losers Wilder was quick to criticise that attitude......he’s been critical about over respecting the opposition.
It makes a massive difference because I think Wilder believes our realistic target should be top half.
Once he knows the division....then I reckon next season he’ll target a Europa Cup place.
