Some complete wet wipes on here. If smoking has ever ruined any experience for you then you really need to re-evaluate your priorities in life

I am thinking of taking up smoking as a hobby. I’ve been reading all about it and it sounds great. I think I’m going to go for a Sherlock Holmes style briar. I have one passed down to me from my grandfather who died of throat cancer before I was even born. It’s got a very deep bowl, fashioned into a Bison’s Head, and a long curved stem. I am going to buy some Erinmore or Ogden’s Flake tobacco and get sparking up. I think I’ll look really cool and sophisticated.

Does anyone know the best area of the Lane for smoking? Preferably somewhere where I can easily be seen on telly with my briar?
was just discussing with my better half the other day how rarely you ever see anyone smoking a pipe anymore. At least with pipe smoke it often had a good smell to go with it while you breathed in someone else's cancerous fumes 🙄 UTB

Gotta feel sorry for anyone who can't go a few hours without a smoke or vape, it just shows they are feeble minded and weak. I don't fall for this macho I'll do what I want attitude.
Not being able to go 90 mins without a fag is pathetic.

It's irrelevant anyway because nobody will pay any attention to it at all. All it will do is force more people to smoke in the toilets

I am a non smoker, but can't think why an area to the rear of the kop couldn't be provided, well away from everyone else.

How about the new commentator's hut, they'd probably do a better job summarising at half time than the sky guys whilst there at it!

Its as if passive smoking doesnt exist...sigh

So am I correct in assuming that Mr Sanctimonious here doesn't drive a car which blows more toxins into the atmosphere on a single journey to the Lane than a smoker is going to blow passively in his direction in probably a whole season at the back of the kop!

Why not just say 'Tell you what, lets have designated smoking areas down the steps at either end of the Kop so that all smokers are then well away from the remaining public and at the same time, this will hopefully increase 'traffic flow' along the back of the Kop at half time when all the smokers have relocated accordingly' . . . . . Just a suggestion (same goes for those in the south stand - just have an area away down the slope back towards the turnstiles?).
Because the PL won't allow it.

Some of the best people I know are smokers. They are great people, kind and generous. They just can't quit. They aren't "selfish" or "pathetic". They just want to have a smoke in a place where they won't bother non-smokers.

I’d save that for those who can’t afford to support the club when it’s struggling, yet miraculously find the cash when it’s on the up. ;)

So, you don’t really want the air as clean as possible. It’s sonethong else......

Of course, you do drive the most fuel efficient car available?

Two hours without is more than manageable I would have thought. Ignoring the fact anyone who smokes these days knowing the dangers want their heads looking at imo.
If United are clinging on to a one nil lead in the dying minutes of a crucial fixture...…...we'll all be nipping out for a fag!!! o_O 😉

The principle of being forced to breathe poisonous carbon monoxide fumes from cars and being forced to breathe second hand smoke from cigarettes is exactly the same. If you're stood on The Moor, you're not bothered by fumes from cars on Arundal gate. But if you're on a bike waiting at traffic lights behind a bus, you will find the exhaust fumes obnoxious. Same with smokers. If you're sitting next to someone smoking a cigarette in an enclosed space you will find it unpleasant. But if you are stood at the top of the kop steps and someone's smoking at the bottom, it's not going to bother you. So the idea is not to ban cigarettes (or cars) everywhere, but to make sure that any harm or annoyance to others is minimized.

I bet the posters who say people are "pathetic" for not being able to go two hours without a cigarette have never been addicted to nicotine. I used to smoke (now I vape) and fully admit that I'm addicted, and would find it very tough to go two hours without, especially in a situation where I'm drinking. I don't call drivers "pathetic" for not cycling instead. I know that people's circumstances differ, and not everyone is able to easily give up their vehicle and use a bike or public transport. We need to live and let live.

But as has been mentioned before, this discussion is probably academic, given that hundreds if not thousands regularly have a fag at half time in the open air behind the kop. They may put some new notices up, but I can't see them introducing strict enforcement policies. They'd need to triple the number of stewards, and given what they are paid I doubt many would be up for a confrontation with groups of ale-supping blokes.

PL rules also say that fans must remain seated during the game, and you can't enter a PL stadium drunk. I can't remember the last time I entered BL sober, and I've never remained seated throughout the game.

We are going a bit off track here, the OP is about No Smoking/Vaping in Premier League FootBall grounds.

I did start a thread about the Sheffield City Councils proposed CAZ did you miss it https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/sheffields-proposed-clean-air-zone.73255/#post-2086768
Were going off track because you made it about the air that you breath.

I’ve pointed out that you have double standards. The air that I breath from your gas guzzling car is known to kill.

The second hand vape condensation, that you don’t actually breath outdoors, isn’t scientifically proven to kill anyone.

You shouldn’t be forced to inhale second hand smoke.

I used to smoke, I now use an ecig and I don't blow massive clouds of vapour at people.
A designated smoking area at the back of the Kop would be ignored, especially by those who like to stand just outside while having a fag and still watching the game. Everyone who wants to go past them and have a piss/pie/whatever has to go through their smoke, and they don't give a fuck. I also can't see the stewards ate the top of the steps on the Kop doing anything about it, as they've ignored the problem thus far.

If the proposed Kop redevelopment eventually happens, an open air area may become a thing of the past, as covering is intended to be added to I believe all of the currently uncovered areas.

Surely though, it's a good thing that people are pissed off. That's the point.

That's why cigarettes have gone from £3.50 for 20 to £9 for 20 while I've been old enough to buy them.

These things are meant to discourage you because it kills you.

E-cigs were meant to wean you off them and then you'd stop that too, but then they realised they could make a fuck ton of money from it and started marketing it to children basically with flavoured juice and people that didn't smoke and now it's seen more as a hobby than a vice.

I would be surprised if vaping isn't bad for you in some way that's as yet undiscovered. Something just doesn't seem right about breathing chemically flavoured vapour into your lungs.

I think just give it all a miss and have a Polo.

How does using flavours equate to marketing to children? Have you ever seen a cocktail menu?

And it's kind of a given that vaping is "bad" for you in some way. Nicotine isn't good for you, there are certain flavourings that probably aren't good for you. All I'd say is talk to anyone who switched to an e-cig and ask them if they feel better for leaving the fags behind.

Meanwhile we've got an obesity crisis and a current public campaign about how obesity causes cancer too. We've got a culture of unhealthy levels of drinking, which causes cancer too along with the huge costs of the associated anti-social behaviour.

We all engage in unhealthy behaviours all the time. And, to the extent that we're part of society, our choices have an impact on those around us. We all draw a line somewhere on what risks we tolerate and that line is ultimately arbitrary. All I'm saying is I find it more than a little annoying that the sodding Premier League feels the need to take this intrisically paternalistic attitude towards fans who want to smoke out in the open air in a designated area.

Those saying this rule will be ignored and "I'll do it anyway" should really think about the repercussions before they start blowing clouds of perfumed smoke from their seat. The stewards or the people around you won't have to enforce this rule and tell you to stop, your seat number can just be reported to the club who can verify you were doing it via the cameras they have in the ground.

I hated having to put up with the nonsense of smelling custard cream flavoured vape every 2 minutes last season. Those saying it doesn't affect other people around them are just being ignorant, for non-smokers/vapers it's fucking annoying.

What about the cunt that stinks of BO that sat next to me last season? An offensive smell to me just the like the custard is to you. Also some of us don't have season tickets or sit in their designated seat so if the club want to fuck about trying to track us down then they can feel free

Don't you have to give your details before buying a ticket? It won't be difficult for the club to find out who the vapers/smokers are, even if they're not sitting in the right seat...but feel free to chance it, personally, I wouldn't say it's worth the risk.

No one's talking about "blowing clouds of perfumed smoke from their seats". We're talking about PL rules which dictate that no smoking is to be permitted not only inside stadiums, but in the Lane's case two open air areas that are a good distance away from the seats. E-cigs don't burn anything and don't emit smoke, the "clouds of smoke" you refer to is water vapour which isn't harmful.

Most times, if someone is using a small vaping device, others don't even notice. OK you get some twats with huge devices that release perfumed vapor that's noticable in a similar way to a woman's perfume. I agree that people shouldn't use these devices in the seats.

Can't say it enough - we all know that smoking is harmful, and can harm others through prolongued second hand exposure. There's no debate about that. The question is whether the PL should have the right to dictate whether a legal practice should be banned not only inside our stadium, but also in the open-air areas areas adjacent to it. What if we were told that we could only sell PL-branded Carling in our bars? Or banned unhealthy pies and forced the outlets to sell healthy options like fruit and vegetarian stuff? The PL is the ruling body for the top flight of English football. But should it be able to dictate everything that goes on in every stadium, regardless of the wishes of the owners or fans?

As for your suggestion that we should grass vaping fans up the stewards, who would then identify the person via cctv footage and seat number, you can dream on.

If you can't do without a cigarette and/or alcohol for two hours, I suggest you make an appointment with a GP.

sigh. No one's saying that it's impossible for them to survive for two hours without a fag or a vape. People are saying that there's enough space at the Lane - on the kop at least - for both smokers and non smokers. Sure, smokers can survive but they'd much rather have a fag with their beer at half time, preferably away from the non-smokers.

If non smokers don't want to be bothered by smoke, there's no reason they need be. Already, the entire stadium is smoke-free and no one smokes in the seats. Furthermore, 90 percent of the bars and public areas are also smoke free. It's only outdoors where people smoke - just like the pub, the theatre or the cinema. No smoking indoors, smokers go outside. What's wrong with that?

1. Get in touch with the Premier League and ask them to implement a rule regarding supporter personal hygiene.
2. You do know when you buy a ticket your details are on the ticket office computer system?
3. So you're not going to sit in your designated seat? Good luck finding a spare seat next season, might be a few spare in the Kop Corner where you can see about 10% of the pitch.
