Is signing Cresswell a statement of Sheffield United's ambition, or are we going to better it, and make the January window really exciting by signing a loan player from Accrington Stanley?
Cresswell, the player who has turned down 2 previous moves to United! Cresswell, who has jumped at the chance to sign for United, because nobody else wants him!
What happened to Blackwell's comments at the end of last year, when he said that he was to sit down with McCabe, and discuss spending a chunk of the West Ham money in January, on "QUALITY" player's.
Lot's of why's and where's, as ever, at Sheffield United!

And for those of you still wondering, here's what a stuck record looks like.

Yes, unfortunately.

Though if Killa really is staying until the end of the season that is an encouraging sign.

I have no problem with Cresswell - decent player.......

Definately a lack of ambition thoug, we have always lacked ambition so nothing new.

the club is heavily in debt, so one way or another it has shown ambition. As the dust settles (or maybe the recession bites) I've come to the conclusion that we've aimed too much cash in the wrong areas, but it seems clear to me that we can't accuse the club of lacking ambition, just getting the business plan wrong. That and appointing Bryan Robson.

To those who want us to show ambition, just how much? If we're, say £40M in debt, how much debt do you think we should accrue?

Like it or not, Cresswell is exactly where we're at right now. The sooner we all get used to it, the sooner we'll get back to being really passionate about United. The old trench mentality where, in truth, we're best as supporters.

Right now what I'd like is a clear statement of where the club's at, the difficulties it's got, and what the plan is. It's time for some truth from Mr McCabe, IMHO.

After all the blathering from McCabe about outside interests, extra income streams, never paying the wages, hotel developments, I cant even believe we are in debt.

Who do SUFC owe the money to ?

McCabe or his companies. It seems all the money we thought he was putting in to us is wanted back, with a nice hefty interest charge to boot.

i thought that was understood ...... i did point out yonks ago the interest rates McCabe was charging the Blades.

The ambition bit i wud argue with... its never been shown ! although i do admit money has been wasted.

The only bit of ambition i've seen us try to show was signing James Beattie. I know a lot of the old guard will say i haven't been supporting long enough, but in 20 years, the signing of Beattie was the only thing i can think of that showed any real ambition by the club i love!

You can look on Beattie as being a swap for Jags, and with Everton paying half Beatties wages even that balanced out.

We made money on the Transfer dealings that summer, I fink !

How does he get £30 odd million back, the Tevez money and faster flowing beer taps ?

I hate being fair to Mike McDonald but our spending from December 1995 to late 1997 was ambitious. Then of course the plug was pulled too early, as usual.

well it's difficult, isn't it. Hence the sales on Naughton and Walker for £10M, with only a small proportion going the other way.

Leeds showed ambition, with Ridsdale. They "dreamed the dream".

Look how long it has taken them to get back to being a half-decent side, having left a trail of unpaid bills along the way.

A few more clubs seem to be going the same way.

The current fare at BDTBL isn't great, but we've just got to be realistic.

Debts? what debts? We are not in debt find another excuse. We have to many assets to be in debt. On the other side of town now they are in debt.

On the pitch you're right. The ambition has been shown off it, in areas that were supposed to set us up to be recession proof. The fact it doesn't seem to have worked doesn't alter the fact that is was ambition, if misplaced by most football supporter's wishes.

4 years. Not very long.

But you wouldn't really want us to take on that level of debt and hope that we can rip off our creditors at the end of it, so as to avoid extinction.....would you?

I'd hardly say they are back.

  • Still in League 1 - though looking good to get up (seen that crash and burn before though).
  • Left a big trail of unpaid bills.
  • Sold off all their assets.
Added to that the huge ticket prices, I'd hardly swap with them!

At the start of next season, barring a miracle, they will be in the same league as us. They will have a decent team. They will have no assets, but also no debts. We will have assets and debts to go with them.

They have indeed left a big trail of unpaid bills. I am sure their fans couldn't care less. I know Mr Bates doesn't.

My problem with Leeds is those unpaid bills. They dumped £20 Million of debt and then just continued like nothing had happened. There is no way they would of been able to keep their players if they had to pay that back.

Administration is an easy way out in my opinion for the bigger clubs and points deductions isn't enough in my opinion.

Is Evil Santa still under investigation from the taxman about there going into Admin? I seem to remember newspaper reports about how dodgy it was.

I don't like it either. But here they are, on the way back to parity (at least) with us.

All this talk of debt has intrigued me. Exactly what kind of debt are we talking about? If its debt from investment by Mr McCabe's companies, then calling it debt is a little premature.

All football clubs have some kind of debt, apart from possibly Manchester United there isn't a single self sufficient club in the country. Its all run through bank loans and other investment streams. It depends what the intentions are. It would certainly seem that money is coming from and going to somewhere - possibly back into the property investment streams - I don't know.

The inner workings of all this are probably beyond what we can comprehend - purely because we are all speculating (we dont know). I wouldn't suggest we are in any serious debt - not unless the chairman wants all investment back in one lump. I doubt such a succesful business man runs his affairs like that. Any decent business man would have constant cash flow coming back in parts the other way.

It would be interested where they would of ended up if that £20 Million was handed to the teams around them. Dirty bastards the lot of 'em.

I don't think the intention was to make us recession proof. It was just an attempt to fund the football aspect of the business from means other than the generosity of benefactors and football related income.

In recession I guess the risk is that the football side actually suffers more.

maybe so, but what's definitley happened is that we've got some large debts with people taking huge chunks of interest. It certainly hasn't worked in the way most fans hoped it would, I'd speculate.

Lou, we're in debt, and lots of it. There's short and long term stuff, but debt is debt. Unlike the pigs, we do have income producing assetts to show for it, but our garden isn't rosey. And the chairman does want the investment back. He's taking it back, right now, with dollops of interest - under the smokescreen that "the football club is only a few million in debt", whilst the PLC has cashflow issues, it seems.

Well seeing as McCabe is THE Creditor I would imagine that aint gonna happen

I detect a slow, painful, un-entertaining era approaching, with the only thing to look forward to is a Car Park Statue being erected to Derek Dooley
