I understand your thinking mate, but I really believe we need a couple of quality strikers to survive. If that’s right you have to measure the inflated fee against the consequences of not paying it.

Oh, and off. Fucking ‘off’. :)

We definitely need at least one to have a realistic chance of surviving. We could get a top inside forward/winger instead of a second striker, and slightly alter our shape if the value isn't out there.
Thank the lord for the edit button.

It depends on the player, their circumstances and the selling club and their circumstances.

Sometimes, you look at a player and know he’s no.2 on several other managers’ lists but the selling club wants to get a deal done early to finance their own transfer business. So you do it quickly before one of the other managers fails to get his number one on the list. Spurs have done this with Ndombele.

Or it could be that a skint club are wanting to maximise their income and have no real intention of buying a replacement. They’ll tend to hold out until TDD in the hope that a desperate club will overpay, providing they’ve got offers in. On the other hand, if other teams move on and there’s only one club still interested in TDD, that club might take advantage, knowing the skint club needs to sell and lower their offer.

There’s a lot of variations to this.

Not least the player and his leech. They’ll ramp up the pressure exponentially as kick-off draws nearer.

It is a bit staggering to be honest to see a failed bid of £15m met with criticism really – a figure nearly 4 times what was until recently our record fee. It’s far more than I’m comfortable with us paying for a Championship striker that might be ok in the PL. We may well miss out on both Maupay and McBurnie, but it won’t be through lack of ambition and it certainly won’t be through lack of backing the manager. That’s certainly not always been the case in the past, so it’s fair to recognise when we are visibly loosening the purse strings.

Yeah, problem is, they've no idea how to haggle down there. They should take a lesson from this.

Of course McBurnie is a gamble. But we simply can't afford proven PL quality. The likes of Brighton & Bournemouth are way more powerful and influential clubs than us whether we like it or not.

West ham signing a player I’ve never heard of sebastian Haller who scored 14 goals in the German league last year for 45Million fourty five Million :oops::oops:

Seriously how many goals would a mcburnie/Maupay score in the German league ?

Multiple mentions of “it’s out of my hands” from McBurnie this evening. Surprised Swansea allowed him to field questions on it tbh.

Just listened to this. Am I the only one who thinks he wants to come to us based on listening to this interview? Previously, we've heard a few quotes from him saying he's looking forward to next season with Swansea - all standard stuff of course. He comes across well I thought in this interview. Hope we get him.

Seems like a decent lad and really if your a Swansea fan you can’t ask more Than what he said.

Not sure I’d really want us to pay that amount for a guy willing to kick up a fuss to get his way.

Whilst skillful in their profession I tend to find quite a few footballers arent that well blessed linguistically when put under pressure in this way.
I'm sure he'd like to join us in the prem with the rewards that brings but I'm not sure he's that well blessed to relay that or otherwise so well.
It's quite an awkward situation for a young lad.

Obviously we’re guessing but I got the sense from the interview that his preference is a move to us, but he’s not going to kick up a fuss and push for a deal if we can’t agree one with Swansea.

He'd fit in so well with us, he really would. I would go all out to sign him before anyone else, and I think his attributes would be perfect alongside either Sharp, McG or Robinson, all for different reasons. We would still need another striker of course, and whilst Maupay would be nice I am not as bothered if we don't sign him. Personally I would have a go at landing Marriott.

See I personally feel he’s the type of striker we need in the prem. Had a bit of everything to his game... he’s not a target man as such but is decent physical presence while still have a mobility and a good eye for goal.

Everytime I’ve seen him I thought he was excellent, especially against us. Comes across well too.

I hope Wilder gets one or both of his prime striker targets. Even if it’s only one, alongside the current squad and the likes of Robinson, perhaps we could find that elusive pairing needed for a really good future.

The last time we had a successful strike partnership was Deane and Agana. Oh happy days.

Would you not say that Sharp and McGoldrick, who got 38 goals between the two of them last season, was a successful strike partnership?

Think he handled that well. This is the guy I'd like to see line up versus Bournemouth. This interview only strengthens that view

I think hes top of most of our wish lists....and with the caveat that it's not my money etc etc ...I'd go all out to get him. I think Maupay is going to a southern club so if we dont get McBurnie its rabbit out of hat time and if we are willing to spend 15m on him another 5m with the premiership riches aught to be within out reach.

Steve Cooper seems resigned to him going too

"I think there's a price on any player but at the moment the offers have been rejected. Until I hear any differently we'll continue to keep working every day."

Very similar to the langusfe Bruce used after their freindly with Lincoln.

"Im happy..." (keeps swansea fans onside)

"It's for the clubs to decide" (I'm off just waiting for sufc to offer an extra 2 quid)

Top of my wish list also, along with Assombalonga.
With a Maupay wobbling on the fence possible due to location to France I would agree with this pairing. Maupay would have been nice but we don’t need a player who may be affected by home sickness and doubt.

I would be happy with McB and Britt but even happier with McB and Robinson just behind!

Duffy / Freeman / Morrison

McBurnie / McGoldrick
Sharp / Robinson

Ya get meh?

I'm not sure we even need a 5th striker and would have no problem if we just kept Leon for that.

Assombalonga isn't good enough anymore and Boro are pricing him unrealistically.
