Neal Maupay

Maupay had a creditable first season in a very difficult league.

I must say that I saw his last season coming, he was primed for it. Although 25 goals may have surpassed my expectations a bit.

My worry with him , watching the highlight clips is that he’s rarely the most impressive Brentford player involved...

To me one of Watkins, Canos, sawyers or benrahma always appeared the most dynamic or impactful in the moves.

And his finishing isn’t supposed to be the best.

That said he was their poty - and the Brentford fans love him - suggests he’d do just fine for us over a season.

I imagine oposition fans would say exactly the same about Billy.

I have had the same thought myself...

I imagine Duffys impact and control on the game would impress opposition the most tbh. Billy is simply in the right place at the right time.l, though I’d argue his ‘all around game’ is miles ahead of a few years ago.

If Maupay can learn to finish from billy then undoubtably we would have a player on our hands. If he signs.

Oh yeah, Billy's all round game has improved massively under Tufty and you can't teach a striker's instinct. It's quite possible that there's a lot more to Maupay's game that we haven't seen for the same reason, we only see highlights, goals amd misses.

For any of our (Now) resident Bees, I'm currently minutes away from watching Nico Yennaris play for Beijing Guoan. Perhaps this will take your minds off of the impending departure of your star player. 😀

What like closing their academy ? If all none premiership clubs go down that route it's not going to help our young lads develop.
Sorry, but you're way off with that observation.

When the Academy system was revamped, Bees were one of (I think) only two Lge One clubs to achieve the highest grade of Academy. They spent a fortune on facilities and top coaches, inc a tie-in with a local college for whom they built a big sports centre etc. Thereafter it was costing over £1m a year to run, but early results were v.promising.

But then, after the PL bunged the FL some money, the latter agreed to change the rules for youth players which meant PL clubs could now recruit the best kids developed in other clubs' Academies without having to pay proper compensation. Bees suddenly lost two of their most promising youngsters, on whom they'd spent serious time and money developing, to Man City and Man U, for £30k each - "licensed robbery".

So in response, Bees cut their losses, closed the Academy and initiated a brand new concept they call their "B" team (pun not intended), whereby they signed up top young 17-22 y.o.'s from all over Europe who hadn't quite made it in their own Academies, so as to give them a second chance (late developers or overlooked etc). This "B" team plays prestige challenge matches, home and away, against teams like Bayern, Benfica, Inter etc, as well as Chelsea, Man City and other top British teams.

And it has been very successful in producing players for the 1st team, helping lads through that difficult period between Academy football and senior football. Indeed other clubs are now copying the concept, eg Huddersfield.

The crazy fees paid for players who can claim Chinese citizenship resulted in us making a profit from selling Yennaris and buying Jansson! It's an insane league. I imagine he's outrageously minted from now on...

The more I see the less I’m keen on this signing. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t be gutted but just looking at his goals, how often will he be in those positions in the premiership against the best defenses? Not often would be my guess. 12 mill plus add ons would be acceptable but i wouldn’t accept a deal heavily loaded on the players interests that the agent may be trying. We already have Billy who is seemingly more clinical, we should use the money to sign better all round strikers. Again wouldn’t complain just an easy one to walk away from.

You're just looking for a Li Ke, aren't you?

Well you're not getting one from me! ;)

(That's your full complement of Chinese football jokes for now. And you know what it's like, you'll want another one in half an hour...)

Wouldn’t argue about any of that, the other negative is although he’s good aggressive player being only 5’7” is a big negative especially in the PL.Still wouldn’t want to lose him even for 20 mill

Are you still here , haven’t you got a life?
I really feel sorry for you !

There we go, Billy Bee, that's the kind of reasoned response we like on here. You'll get a much more favourable reaction from us this way, although I am also aware that this post of mine is a tad patronising (unintentionally).

This goes on much longer and I hope he doesn't sign 🤣

He's got Bob Hope of living up to this hype 🙂

Your concern is greatly appreciated - the summer/close season is boring as hell as weekly football disappears. Transfer rumour fills that void... to a small degree.
