Just realised that Trevor Birch, ex Blades chief exec, is chairman at Swansea. Slapped a £20m price tag on McBurnie... I do think that he's trying to start a public bidding war, it also indicates our interest though, he wouldn't be saying it if we hadn't shown serious interest.

We need to stand resolute with £15 million-ish.

The players will want to go to the PL. We’ll have more leverage over McBurnie as he’s less coveted and based up north.

Surely Brighton will be Utd's biggest rivals for McBurnie's signature with Potter there and not having only signed a left back and a winger so far and is deperate need of another striker to take the burden off Murray.

Indeed, and actually fairly well liked by the Swansea fans it seems. What he said following the Potter departure seemed to go down well, so too the results of negotiating the James transfer. I mentioned before that given the cash that’s come in from that sale they are under far less pressure to sell McBurnie on the cheap than they otherwise might have been. Nobody will pay anywhere near £20m for him though.

Hopefully he has a desire to come here and play under one of the top managers in the country in the best league in the world then! Shouldn't be a huge ask especially if it's true that he wants to be up north, not a bad USP to lure him in!

The general opinion would I guess be that both these players peaked last season in regards to the Championship. The next logical step would be to grab their opportunity in the PL and see if they can carve out successful careers there. Another season in the Championship could be a 'banana skin' that could see their desirablilty and value drop dramatically.

Brentford, using all their statistics, have had a fair amount of success from selling players at the right time, and they feel this is the time to let Maupay go. It would not have gone unnoticed that Dean Smith and Graham Potter have not gone overboard to sign their former players.

It would appear that we are making the right approach, by showing that we see the potential and are interested but will not cave in to stupid demands and will not get mugged off.

Remember how Hull got Maguire from us. It didn’t happen overnight. They got into his head until he was keen to leave and we had to sell him. All we have to do is let them know what they’ll earn at the Lane and let their agents do the rest.

We may end up getting priced out by another PL club but I’m fairly sure McBurnie and Maupay will be playing in the PL this season.

Neither Swansea nor Brentford will be able to offer them close to what PL clubs will (or offer the opportunity to move to a big club on daft money after a successful season in the PL) so they can put whatever price tag they want on the players, they’ll still go for whatever the highest bid is.

Don’t you think they would have done it by now, given Oli is apparently besotted with their mid-table manager?...

McBurnie is more of an all rounder upfront and would be my no.1 choice. If we can get Maupay as well brilliant but if it's one or the other I think McBurnie gives us more options.

Presumably Bruce, you agree that we need two new strikers as an absolute minimum? Who would be the other and how much would he cost? Factor in of course that Tufty wants Maupay. Don’t you end up saying the marginal cost is sufficiently close to let Tufty have the guy he actually wants. If we’re looking at potential improvement and increase in value I would happily (not that I’m in a position to do so( pay several more millions for Maypay than, for example the battered old Austin. For me, it makes both football and business sense to spend a little more than we’d ideally like, on this particular occasion. I believe we’ll be quids in long-term.

We do need 2 strikers but I doubt we are going to pay the £40m quoted for this pair (granted these values may not be dead accurate). Roofe maybe an alternative, his form before the injury at Leeds last season was impressive and if he's fully fit he could be a bargain. I also like Assombalonga, always a handful, scores goals and I think he would benefit from our style.

To be honest - yes, I am surprised McBurnie hasn't already gone to Brighton. I suspected Utd's chance of getting him had drastically reduced when Potter was announed.

Either Brighton have other targets or the lure of the bright lights of Sheff (and his home in Leeds) proved too much.

Maybe he wasn't that arsed on Potter

What if we don’t get either McBurnnie or Maupey .

Some wannabe ITKer said shock signing 10am Monday not mentioned before in our forum rumours, could it be Dwight Gale?

That would explain Gage's tweet, timing and confidence.

Doubt it... Don't think he would go out on such a limb with a bid that was rejected, or not yet accepted, same as RC says.... Why do people believe any old shite on here and attach onto it like it's gospel.

Also, JL has an absolute sterling record of talking absolute ball sacks

If the agent agreed all the personal terms and even told our representatives that Bretford would accept a 12mil bid then maybe we did get over confident before the bid was placed or before we'd ever discussed figures with the them.

This is the McBurnie thread so the deal is with Swansea. The 2 threads are merging into a similar sort of thing though. Fingers crossed we can get a couple of South Wales' finest in here to put us right about the inner workings of their clubs recruitment department.

Crap. I'm flicking back and forth.
Yeah similar situation though.

Well that sounds better than having £12m rejected.
