The Great Lord CW...........having a beer outside a pub in S10 about 4 weeks before he was announced as our gaffer. Was there with a Blades pal and we congratulated him on his promotion with Northampton and asked him if he would consider managing the Blades. He said in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't, even if it was the last club on earth due to previous dealings with the interview process and the board........lying bastard, but I love him dearly!
He genuinely felt that until the offer came!

As a kid with my dad I recall chatting to keith curle a few times at champs eccy road, smoking cigars at the bar, on teamsheet day after...

Carl asaba lives a few doors down from my mum, bump into him a lot, really nice chap

Mum used to cut Del, Tonge, Brown and Jags hair, walked into the salon once with Tonge in the chair, had a great chat with him.. he was a proper decent bloke!

Used to caddy for my dad who played golf with Tracey, top bloke and always had good stories

But my best blades 'bumped into' story...

Mates car weren't starting and parked on a hill.. I joked that Morgs should come out and help (heard he lived two doors down)... after much faffing around trying to get it started, Morgs actually walks out the door and offers a hand with a push... long story short, we get the car started and Morgs goes on his own way. Quality!!!

Petr Kachuro nearly ran me over one morning when I lived on Shoreham St.

I also bumped into Andy Goram in the Leadmill one Saturday night and ended up buying him a drink. In hindsight I should have bought him two ;)

On the train coming from Oxford had a chat toJohn Hope. It was his first game for United.

Saw a few when I lived in Broomhill - Wilder (numerous times, mainly in one of the pubs), Simon Moore, George Long and Scougall.

Saw Santos on the train back from Manchester once. Think it was around the time he was scouting for us (2009?).

Seen others before in town over the years, but I’m always reluctant to bother them.

Colin Morris in the old Asda at Handsworth. I stupidly said excuse me are you Colin Morris. (As if anyone else looked like him!)

Mind you I was only about 12.

I bumped into coutts crossing queens road before last season when he was still recovering and couldn't help myself and shouted COOOOUTTS at him, he was with his missis n kid n I had a little chat to him about his recovery etc, I had my 7 year old daughter with me (who was a Wendy fan) and I said to her "this is sheff utds best player" her reply? "What? He plays for smelly sheff utd?" Paul laughed it off but I could have throttled her lil bugger!
Was...?
Does that mean she's seen the light and left the dark side?

Not really!
She doesn't even like football (hates it actually!) It was just her fav colour is blue n her mum n new bloke r pigs so they got her kit, she did say a few months ago she doesn't want to be a wed fan cos their rubbish so halfway there I suppose!

Peter beargrie at the blades revival nite at Roxy's in the mid 80,s
We we're all starstruck cos at the time he was our hero! We got him to sign our autograph books (it was the 80,s!) He said alrite lads and spoke about how he loved the fans, we then watched him for the rest of the night trying to chat up miss Sheffield united who was called Samantha Sears, I remember her name because as well as the players pics in the programme they put her pic in too so she ended up on my bedroom wall with the rest of the players (and she was fit as foook! :)

Random q - did they get it cut in S35 ?

"There's only 2 Andy Gorams" is as insensitive a chant as it is hilarious.

i literally nearly bumped into ravel morrison a few days ago just off weststreet

Last year, Billy Sharp was in front of me in the queue to use the cash machine on Cherry Street.

I see Matt prestidge all the time, very shy bloke, but always says how do when he walks the dog past if I'm out in the garden.

Paul Tomlinson snogging his girlfriend in Niagara Police Club mid 80's. Broke off to ask me if I wanted something. Suspect I may have been staring. I was only 12.....

Charlie Hartfield in Josephine's the night of the Blackburn Q/F win on penalties. Went for a drunken pat on the back and missed. He called me back and we had a hug and quick chat. Top top bloke.

Deano same night. Stood next to him at the bar - couldn't think of anything to say so touched his leg. Gave me a funny look.....

Derek French at Plymouth station after the 0-0 in the Warnock Premier promotion season. Nice bloke. Was scouting for Bassett who rang him up while we were talking

Bumped into plenty of blades but my favourite run in's with ex Sheffield footballers was nearly running waddle over when he crossed the street in Dore and seeing Dalian Atkinson in a nightclub in Stafford whilst he was chatting to a bird before I butted in calling him a piggy bastard.

I know Sam Sears, as she was then, I’ll let her know you were a fan.

But more importantly, I’ll also let her son know, which will provide me with much more entertainment 😂😂😂

New to S24su

Just watched a vid with Chris Morgan , Jags and Wilder ( Behind the scenes thing).

I bumped into Morgs in a Pets at Home. Was worried about going up to him for a chat as I bet sometimes they just want to shop without any hassle but said hello and got chatting. Seemed a top bloke and down to earth.

Any good or bad situations when bumping into other players?

Sat on the table next to Morgs a few weeks ago at Ponti's Italian restaurant in the Fox Valley Shopping Centre at Stocksbridge.

And....

and nothing really.

He was there with his wife and kid - at least that's who I think they were. I don't know, I didn't speak to him. I don't know him. He doesn't know me. I've no more desire to introduce myself to him than any other complete stranger tbh. I mean, if there was some reason we got into a conversation then fine...but there wasn't.

I was in the Pointing Dog on Eccy Road about 3 years ago now, one saturday evening. It was jam packed in there and me and my trophy-wife missus were parked up next to a high table. Ex Blade, Stephen Quinn, was stood next to us. On this occasion we did get chatting. But that's only because some stupid bint spilled her drink right over the both of us! So, we had a bit of a laugh about it - my wife got out some tissues and offered them to him to wipe down his suit jacket - and that was that. Did I introduce myself? No. Did I start talking to him about football and Sheff Utd - no. Why should I?

To be perfectly honest, I think there is something very juvenile and not grown up at all about fans who are desperate to bump into, be seen with, or start up a conversation with a footballer. When I was 6 years old I wanted the Beatles to come to our house for tea. When I was 11 or 12 years old I used to go in Billy Dearden's chip shop on West Street hoping I might see him in there, so I could talk to him about Sheff Utd. I grew out of those things. I grew up. I became a man. An adult.

I'd be sociable to any footballer, but no more so than to any other human being. I see them as just being normal folks and not objects to admire and worship. But obviously that puts me in the minority of football fans - thank God!

I think you are afraid they'd tell you to fuck off. I know I would if someone I didn't know came over and spouted drivel about how much the meal was costing. 😕

:D Ha-ha!

Still going on about that Chinese meal that cost me £200 mate? £90 of which was wine.

I don't think you and I would find ourselves in the same restaurant too often, so you needn't worry too much about that.

Bumped into Mark Rankine...on the pitch at Bramall Lane - see avatar...
