Norrappy if it is. Couldn't wait to get out 12 years ago. No loyalty to us then nor over the last 12 years. Been back how many times to watch us? Now too slow for PL which is why released. No resale value. Only "benefit" can give idea of how others might set up and be adequate back up for thirty minutes. FFS haven't we got analysts for that.

I'm with Pinchy. Bladey waste of a shirt.

If the club thinks that signing Jagielka is a 'significant' signing, we might as well reign in the hope for this season, because there's no way a bit part player at the very max can be classed as significant.

I agree to some extent - the signing isn’t ‘significant’ in a playing sense. Other tha with regard to History etc possibly?

Imo it’s more likely to be someone getting over excited AGAIN ( ‘new commercial deal - watch this space.....’ ) rather than an indication of our budget or aspirations imo.

Think he’s still got something to offer and we do need cover even if he only play a minor role.

As I remember correctly, we turned down bids for him in the Championship in summer 2005 from Premier League clubs, and he was convinced by Warnock to stay on for one more year to try and get us promoted. He did, we did, and had we stayed up he’d have probably stayed still. To suggest he jumped at the opportunity to leave as soon as he could is a complete rewrite of history, almost up there with the he-handballed-it-deliberately-to-get-the-move brigade.

Uninspiring to say the least if it turns out to be Jags. Too slow to move and react. Was shown up last season when he played.

On a 1 year deal it's a brilliant signing.
If it was after our 3 big ones we would be happy, it's just a bit of a let down because we are waiting for our main targets still.

Jagielka has always been an Evertonian, never a Blades supporter other than in the role of player. Returning to the Lane could only realistically be in a coaching capacity. Nowt to get excited about.

Maybe, maybe not. Can't fault him for going and bettering himself, but how many times has he been back or expressed support like McGuire and The Kyles?

Thought he was a Manchester United fan as a kid or have I made that up?

Wikipedia (never knowingly wrong ;) ) says he's from Manchester, his accent isn't scouse either. I really don't care who he supported, how big a Blade he is, how many times he's been back to the lane since he left; I just want him to be the great player he is. hopefully at least one more season left in him.

Couldn’t agree more mate.

I think he sounds like McCabe.

It's weird.

Everyone needs to give over with the obsession with “significant”. It’s a word that will have very very likely just come from the comms team, viewing it through the lens of an ex-Blade, ex-England international rejoining us. To THEM, as a story, it’s significant.

It doesn’t mean it’s a hugely significant signing for the club. Wilder will be the judge of that and until I hear him say that, I won’t get my knickers in a twist. I’d advise others to do the same.

He isn’t a great player mate and never has been.

I’ve seen the greats. He’s many a mile short.

Let’s move on to signing some players who will actually make a difference as soon as possible.

Not sure which thread to put this in but chose here.

My theory is the staff were told to vacate earlier because of the third signing. They knew that it wouldn't be ready to be unveiled tonight so couldn't risk it leaking to the media.

They wouldn't have sent everybody out only to announce Jagielka a couple of hours later. Absolutely no point in that
