Monty looking to stay
Posted on: Wed 23 Dec 2009

United stalwart Nick Montgomery has announced that contract talks are in progress as he looks to extend his love-affair with the Blades beyond the end of this current campaign.

Montgomery, who progressed through the ranks with the likes of Phil Jagielka and Michael Tonge, has seen the club transformed over recent years and believes that will continue to be the case in the future:

"I am in talks about my contract but these things take time and I am not wanting to rush things, as I am fully focused on playing in two important matches over the Christmas period.

"I will leave negotiations to other people but hopefully in the next couple of weeks there might be something sorted out.

"I have been with this club through thick and thin and can honestly say I love the Blades.

"When I started we used to get 11,000 at home games, now we regularly get in excess of 25,000 week after week, so Sheffield United is a massive club."

As much as the lad gets slagged off by some blades, he's a true pro who always works his arse off for the blades.

Glad he's staying.

Is that enough, then?

Can I have a contract please?

So you don't think should be given a new contract then? I mean i know you have no love for the guy, but surely even you would at least concede that he's a useful squad player.

Bout time he was signed up for longer

MONTYS TESTOMONIAL NEXT YEAR WOOP WOOP

Monty is an ok squad player that can do a job if and when required.
No More No Less
Yes he works his arse off
But he is extremely limited to what he can achieve because his skill matrix is not as comprehensive as it should be given the amount of games under his belt!

Blah blah blah shit blah blah blah hoof blah blah blah execute blah blah blah miss blah blah blah trifle blah blah blah frogspawn blah blah blah power blah blah blah metronome blah blah blah kangaroo blah blah blah taxi blah blah blah water carrier blah blah blah beetroot.
Just thought I'd add a little to the love/hate Monty debate. Nothing new, as per.

Yes Highbury, I'd agree with that. But someone has to provide an antidote to the hysteria.

Actually he's my first name on the team sheet too:

Subs: Montgomery, .............

Sorry but Monty epitomises everything that is wrong with SUFC no flair no class no quality, until we move on from Monty, Blackwell and co we will always be second rate and also rans. 85 years since we won anything and 25k still come through the turnstiles, loyality beyond belief. I once believed McCabe was the best thing that had ever happenened to our club but you would have to be blind not to see that it's now his personal gain (or damage limitation) first and SUFC second. We are no further forward in the league table (and that's what's matters) then the day he took over, and for a businss man of his staure he should be ashamed of the lack of progress we have made under his leadership.

Exactly but people wont be told. Monty gives 110%, is part of the furniture now at Bramall Lane and can tackle. Unfortunatly him being here so long has meant we have to like him for the player he is despite being transfer listed once or twice with no takers. Good news for some is that we wont sell him so until he retires we have to live with him being a blade.

His skills may be limited, BUT our dramatic dip in form was when he was out of the team through injury. Coincidence?

I have to say that over the last two years Monty has won me over as a player. Yes, as chipsncake says, he has no class and no flair but he does the dirty job. Every successful team has at least one, teams like Chelsea have Essien/Mikel etc, Arsenal used to have Viera. The problem for Monty is that his role allows the other players to express themselves and use their skills and that's where the theory falls down - they are generally sh!te.

Anyone who doesn't think Monty is an integral part of our team is a numpty.

Any views Big Mart?

Not really mate, just goes to confirm that the modern breed of supporter, of which you are one, knows fuck all about football :gallop:

Ok then 2 whole defeats......plenty more points dropped when he was out.

All of which goes to show that the 'we never lose when he's in the team' stat is meaningless. what IS meaningful is how the other ten around him play and if his headless chicken performances contirbute anything overall. mark patterson was similar, he had a few decent players around him to make use of the tenacious ball winning workhorseness of his performance, i cant see monty making that much difference under blackwell but maybe under a better manager, he'd find his niche.

So if we put Monty in alongside ten better players, we'd have a better team?

Gotcha.

where does it say that? i said his limited abilities may actually be better suited to being surrounded by skilful players, do keep up.

a sliced clearance whch nearly resulted in an og and a penalty so far tonight from our lynchpin....
