We will not be shit, consistently. We will not be consistent, so there’s a reason why.

It will take time for the players to adapt to a higher level of competition. I’m talking about other teams players, not ours. They won’t have experienced the “random avant-garde - “where the fuck did he pop up from?” attacking football that we play.

We play with the freedom of young children in the school playground. As kids, long before we knew anything about tactics, we just played with heart and instinct. There was a ball. There was a goal. There were players to beat. We bust a gut to beat them.

Of course, we got stuffed a few times by the school Prefects, but in the main we enjoyed it and surprised a lot of people by how potent innocent enthusiasm can be.

That’s what I’m expecting anyhow.

I absolutely can’t wait and I’m ready to take a pasting now and then for a team and a manager that has dared to be different and break the establishment mould.
