Neal Maupay

Brighton spent over £60m on players last season. One of the reasons Hughton was sacked was his high profile signings that failed to impress.
Those 4 players they spent 60m I've never heard of any of them and I believe none of them started more than half the games Brighton played last season !

Language wise I haven't got a clue, but Wesley was in Slovakia for a year and Belgium for 3 years. So the chances of him developing homesickness, not settling in the UK or struggling to learn a new language are incredibly small.
Most people with actual experience of playing football here and abroad tend to say the difference is that our football is relentless and physically demanding. Generally if a player can cope with the championship they can cope with the physical demands of the PL and retain a level of consistency. Of course, they may not be technically good enough but that’s another matter.

With UK based players there’s usually an option of a manager doing some discreet enquiries into their character. Not as easy with foreign players unless you have some good contacts.

That’s where the gamble is, that’s why it can be more of a risk. But you weigh that up against the possibility of finding the next Kante, unearthing a hidden gem that can bring you success before being sold for a huge profit.

In this case, have they found the next Suarez or the next Van Wolfswinkel? We’ll find out in due course, assuming he gets his work permit.

yep...a bit like when we couldn't stop O'Connell going to Brighton last year when they made a bid....oh hang on :)
They could have offered us £15m and we’d have probably taken it and they’d have had a really good defender. Instead they went cheap and got Dan Burn. Something we need to consider this season. £15m on a player with a good chance of stepping up is a much better deal than £10m on a maybe, especially when it’s soon apparent that’s he’s more of a ‘probably not’.

Exactly, completely wasted their money and ended up relying on Murray etc again instead. I do believe Wilders the right man to spend, I just worry what he’s got to work with.

To be truthful any 20m signing is going to be risky. The risk is increased if the player has never played in the Premiership and its increased further if hes never lived and played in England.

That's why McBurnie is lower risk and for.me feels.like a better fit for us. He'll cost less than 15m, hes played fleetingly in the premiership, hes the right age, appears to have to right attitude and importantly plays with his socks rolled down so looks like a proper old school centre forward

The only one that comes to mind is this bloke, maybe McBurnie isn’t such a good signing after all :(

Well me too. I mentioned Maupay a while ago as being one I'd love to see us sign from the Championship. I think the lad would be a perfect fit for us. Like a younger, faster, fitter version of Billy Sharp. Absolutely just what we need.

The chances are, I think, that he will opt to join Smith at Villa. He'll probably see Villa as a bigger club (which they are) with a better chance of survival in the Prem (which may be the case, because they will spend money on it - and we won't) and he has worked for Smith before and has publicly stated if he ever came and asked him to play for him again he'd have to consider it. Also, it's a bit easier to get to and from London from Brum, than from Sheffield. And Brum is a lot more like London than Sheffield - it's huge, with lots of classy shops and bars and restaurants - so he'll probably feel more at home there - than here in the world's largest village.

Our only hope is to get him to come up to Sheffield by train, let him be impressed as he leaves the railway station at that wonderful steel wall with the water feature, then show him our magnificent, yet traditional, stadium. Order a greasy chip butty in for him, from A Salt n Battered. After that, take him out on a little run out Derbyshire, up over Ringinglow Moor, Burbage, Hathersage, Castleton. Take him to Chatsworth House, then stop off on the way back at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and get him drunk, then get him to sign on the dotted line before he realises what he's done. These things could swing it in our favour perhaps?
I can say with great authority that Birmingham is a fucking shit hole

There is no way in my opinion that the Premier League will deduct points for something which happened in the EFL.

The Premier League is all about the “best league in the world” brand especially abroad. A team starting on minus points doesn’t fit into that imagine and wouldn’t help with the drama of the league if one team is looking a dead cert to go down before a ball is even kicked.

And of course; it wouldn't be fair on the fans to punish a football Club for cheating would it …..:oops:;)

We've seen that before from the "impartial" football authorities …….

From a Championship talent factory to a La Liga one.

Sevilla have a great record buying, developing and selling so that could be a very good move for him.

Never thought he was a possibility for us.

It would be nice if he doesn't have to play against us next season.

Championship to La Liga

If I were a pig fan, I'd be asking Maupay why he's making a sideways move?

apparently for a mere £10 million as well! fuck that. let's bid 15 and muscle Sevilla out of it

This can’t be true. Everyone has been saying he’s going for double that this summer and I was mad to say he might go for around 10–12

"Strangely, the report suggests that Brentford will demand a mere €10m for their star player, despite him still having two years left on his contract. Indeed, Previous reports have suggested that the Bees are looking for an offer in the region of £20m."

I am pretty shocked at that price. I guess we still don't know but I imagine if he goes for that money, he'll have hefty sell on clauses (30-50% ???)

That article says nothing about him being confirmed as a signing, just that his agent is going to Sevilla to have a chinwag.

If he was available for £10m he'd be at Villa already.
Or maybe Villa inquired and Maupay said no - this could be true if Sevilla were in the picture (similar to how Wilder allegedly spoke to Billy about the Sunderland offer which was declined by the player).

I could imagine Sevilla will be an attractive proposition for Maupay. Great facilities, known for uncovering gems that go on to be world class, a nice city life.

Also, A great deal of La Liga teams are about Championship standard, which means less of a step up and more chance for success, lower prem teams are a big risk for a striker... lack of service and attacking footy. Sevilla and La Liga have a high enough profile for a player to get a breakthrough to bigger clubs.

He was never coming here we will just wait for the Blackburn geezer in January and that's it.

That last paragraph.... 😂

La Liga is a far better standard than the Championship. It's arguably better than The Best League In The World.

Help me with this one BB, better than the best league in the world. The the best league in the world isn’t the best league.....oh forget it

Maupay was never coming here, neither will McBurnie, or Canos, or Benrhama, or Bowen, or Watkins,
Shane Long, Junior Hoilett, Gary Madine, James MacLean, Jon Walters or somebody equally inspiring is my bet

Should have put it in quotation marks. It's sky's description of the premier league.
