Rumours that Villa have offered Brentford £20m plus Hogan for Maupay

Jesus - have they not heard of low balling on an opening offer?

But at least that would hopefully stop this rumbling for the summer.

Hope he goes somewhere ASAP.

Was never going to happen and I'll be glad when it's officially confirmed.

Villa can sign him and Lolley, they still have to bring Mings back and replace Abraham. I don't think they'll be too strong.

We’d stand a better chance of getting Watkins in if we were to swoop before they sell maupay imo. It would only inflate the price if they already have 20m in the bank

Think I'd rather have Hogan than.maupay ,he's never stood out to me and I think if you can get Hogans confidence up there is a diamond in there
But I suppose I'm thinking about the Sheffield United archetypal crowd favourite who is usually someone broken by the game and rebuily by the lane

We need to sign about 8 players, we aren’t signing 1 for £20m. At present we don’t have the owners to fund a big spending campaign.

Wolves spent the money we are now talking about spending before going up !

Fulham spent it when they got there and went straight back down, dread to think what the wage bill is. But the key is a billionaire in charge.

Cardiff is more like our situation but again, a far far wealthier owner than both of ours combined. What did they spend ?

Not spending £20m on one player is not a lack of ambition, it’s being sensible. We’ve only just got to the Premier League and many are going on like we are well established. Even then you can have a £100m wage bill and still be looking at the bottom 3.

£170m is not much over 3 years (if we come back down and then stay down) it’s potentially just 3 years wage bill.

With the current owners (no fault to them, they’ve got what they’ve got) it is really not an easy situation to navigate now the euphoria has died down and we realise we have a 14 man squad !

As mentioned in previous posts... with a limited budget; is that a priority?
Wilder already said we need players at a good age and value. He also believes that he wants to progress their careers and have resale value. Mupay fits the bill.

Remember this time last year?
Chasing Waghorn who eventually went to Derby for £6M . . . . .
We signed McGoldrick on a free . . . . .
The rest is history
In Wilder we trust.

Richard Cadette says Maupay is our no1 target and I'd be happy if we could land him

Well me too. I mentioned Maupay a while ago as being one I'd love to see us sign from the Championship. I think the lad would be a perfect fit for us. Like a younger, faster, fitter version of Billy Sharp. Absolutely just what we need.

The chances are, I think, that he will opt to join Smith at Villa. He'll probably see Villa as a bigger club (which they are) with a better chance of survival in the Prem (which may be the case, because they will spend money on it - and we won't) and he has worked for Smith before and has publicly stated if he ever came and asked him to play for him again he'd have to consider it. Also, it's a bit easier to get to and from London from Brum, than from Sheffield. And Brum is a lot more like London than Sheffield - it's huge, with lots of classy shops and bars and restaurants - so he'll probably feel more at home there - than here in the world's largest village.

Our only hope is to get him to come up to Sheffield by train, let him be impressed as he leaves the railway station at that wonderful steel wall with the water feature, then show him our magnificent, yet traditional, stadium. Order a greasy chip butty in for him, from A Salt n Battered. After that, take him out on a little run out Derbyshire, up over Ringinglow Moor, Burbage, Hathersage, Castleton. Take him to Chatsworth House, then stop off on the way back at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and get him drunk, then get him to sign on the dotted line before he realises what he's done. These things could swing it in our favour perhaps?

I’d certainly take him for £15m. Worst comes to worst he’d be a quality striker to get us back up to prem season after

£15m wouldn't be bad value. Maybe with add ons that we wouldn't care about paying.

I wonder if Brentford would prefer to sell to us, with the sell on clause in mind? They've seen what we've done with JOC and Egan.

My main problem with making Maupay the big signing is who would we sign to supplement him up front? The 'big man' striker options don't look too great, and any £15m+ fee would reduce the rest of our budget a fair bit.

Someone made a new email address to post shite like that imagine being that sad 😂

p.s wouldnt mind for it to actually happen

You'd think that someone using sky sports...and the logo on a twitter account posting shite like this could be taken to task

When Huddersfield got promoted to the premier league (which they had never been in before) through the playoffs they spent 10m on 4 players and spent nearly 60m and this helped them to survive with quality from players such as Aaron Mooy and Pritchard. So why shouldn't we ask for the same level of investment especially now as larger budget tv deals have been struck????

Judging by how many we've gone for or going for from their, I assume we have some sort of link with them, maybe agent, coaching staff or manager?

8 or 9 isn’t far off:

2 Strikers - We only have two senior strikers currently.
1 Keeper - Hendo has gone, hopefully he’ll return.
1 Attacking Midfielder - ideally a first choice, but at the very least to compete with Duffy.
1 Midfielder - challenge to Norwood/Fleck but at least back up.
1 Defender - again competition for places but we still need back up.
1 Wing Back - competition/back up.

I make it 7 bare minimum, I’ve said as competition but I’m hoping we will have at least 3 new first team regulars next season which will easily cost £30m especially with us needing attacking players.
You have to cover 7 positions. That doesn't necessarily mean you need to recruit 7 players.
1. Hendo, yes.
2. If you got Luca Connell, he could be back up for Fleck and back up for Stevens. Both who would be first pick. Not sure you need a full time back up for both if you want quality.
3. If you got Watkins, he could be AM and also CF options in one.
4. Wing back, defender, could be a player who can occupy both roles potentially.
5. Striker.

Could get away with 5 main signings there. It's the quality not the quantity that we need to focus on though I acknowledge the depth is still a concern with sqaud depth but that is the quandary. Compromise on depth of squad to go for high quality or add more players but dilute the additions to the first XI.
