One thing I would say about all this media guff is that it’s hard to envisage a situation at any other Premier League club where their manager would be openly linked by the press with clubs in the second and third tiers. It’d be beyond contemplation that a manager would step down from the top tier for any club (outside the top few giants in English football), particularly one that has just got his home town team promoted and whose stock is sky high like Wilder’s. Other P.L. clubs interested maybe but Championship and League One, no way.
So I think we can reasonably ask ourselves ‘What’s different about us?’. Why would the said clubs (if true) think for one minute that they could lure a manager away from the Premier League and in Sunderland’s case back into the dreaded lower leagues? And if (as most think) it’s crap, why are the press and media continuing to spread the rumours when you’d think the news editors would simply kick the journalist’s arses for even proposing such rubbish? Is it because while Wilder and his players stock may have risen, the club’s still seen as an easy touch without true leadership and direction from the top? I suspect that’s the case myself, clubs are just chancing their hands and the media’s making a meal of it.
The owners need to get the ownership sorted, the only stories coming out the Lane right now should be positive ones and they should fill the fans with optimism for the new season but that’s just not been the case. We Blades can laugh stories off as bollox but to be honest, Im finding the whole sorry saga unfolding in London a total embarrassment, and the fact that it’s now spawning other negative offshoots like one this makes things even worse. We should be laughing at the Pork, anticipating some good recruitments and drooling at the prospects of next season in the P.L. right now, not having mega threads about Wilder walking out or Asama Bin Laden’s cash stash. It’s bloody bizarre!
Sorry if it turned into a slight rant guys but better out than in as Mi Grandma used to say.
