i really don't recall many teams getting out of this division by playing poorly, looking erratic but winning around 1 in three games. It doesn't make sense to compare to Man Utd who on the whole play most opponents off the park week in week out but get lucky in a handful of games a season. Yes if it came down to a one-off game like in May I'd be more than happy if Burnley had 375 shots on target and we scored in the last minute with a goal off the referee's penis, I'd even be happy seeing us play poorly but win for a period like we've seen over the last month - it should start to build some confidence.
People generally only talk about playing well above results when there's no real belief that a team will be successful. I'm worried that already the club may have given up on promotion being a realistic proposition this year aside from a fluke. If that's the case then I'd say yes we should concentrate on rebuilding properly and playing a better quality of football. What disappoints so many and leads to more and more suggestions like this is a situation where we've played well and won only a handful of times in such a long time. The longer we go without playing well the more people will start to feel I'd rather be watching entertaining football. After matches this year it's been noticably a lot less fun sitting in the pub trying to discuss what has been witnessed than it should be. It's not just the result that matters and whilst I'm semi-erect at the very prospect of us getting promoted playing in any way possible I'm starting to also feel footbally stunted with the way we've been playing...
Have you never wondered why when your playing FIFA or PES with your non-blade mates you automatically feel like a 5 year old, watching them string together great moves whilst all you can do is pass it to the keeper from the kickoff and then launch it up to big Crouchy

Or why when you're playing football manager as manager of Real Madrid you sign Richard Cresswell cos you know his sort and should be able to ease him in
Also I think it's rather rude to start off your post by stating how boring a thread is. When I post I always feel a little bit like I would entering someones house, they've been good enough to let me me in, I wouldn't just walk in and say I'm bored by it or your kitchen's shit.

I get the impression what Dave was suggesting is not why didn't we play long ball but with Evans up top but more why bring in a player that has been out for two months and expect him to be able to do that role very well... I must admit to not going to Plymouth however from the radio I'd say the tactics didn't seem to work well at all and we struggled to create much until after cresswell had beeen taken off.. Perhaps we'd have been better playing a different way, surely that's worthy of dicussion?
I was pretty happy against Bristol to see what we could do with Evans and Camara playing together, I thought more than anything we did ok because Bristol weren't prepared for us playing like we did. On the whole this was one of a few games in the last year that we've not just kicked it up to a big man and it's becoming totally predictable. No manager in the league can be surprised to see us turn up and play a 4-5-1 how you describe and it's simple to defend against after watching us a little bit. It worked really well early doors but towards the back end of last season and most of this it's been too easy for teams to nullify our wide men and then laugh at the threat of the big man and non-existant attacks from midfield.
