Like all new rules it will be zealously applied in August and September. Then by March we'll have had 2 or 3 times where the ref will have had to go against the home team in a huge moment but bottled it. And we'll be back to the old rules

Also....what's the difference between accidental hand ball for attacking sides and for defending sides, Easy rule - if it hits the hand or arm it's hand ball. Removes all doubt (as offside being offside would).

Don't have a problem with celebrations. We give a player pelters & he celebrates in front of us, man up & accept it.

Surely the easiest thing is the ref adds on the amount of time the celebration took at the end.

The new handball law for me is a cop out that’s been created for the purposes of VAR. I imagine that a law to penalise any contact in the penalty box is in the pipeline.

• The goalkeeper must not be touching the goalposts/crossbar/nets; they must not be moving

• The goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot on/in line with the goal line when the kick is taken; cannot stand behind the line.

Explanation

•It is unfair if the kicker needs assessment/treatment and then has to leave the field and cannot take the penalty kick.

• The referee must not signal for the penalty kick to be taken if the goalkeeper is touching the goalposts, crossbar or net, or if they are moving e.g. the goalkeeper has kicked/shaken them

• Goalkeepers are not permitted to stand in front of or behind the line. Allowing the goalkeeper to have only one foot touching the goal line (or, if jumping, in line with the goal line) when the penalty kick is taken is a more practical approach as it is easier to identify if both feet are not on the line. I think this has been misinterpreted. Its the goalposts/crossbar/nets that must not be moving. If it was the goalkeeper not allowed to move how could they be jumping!

I think this has been misinterpreted. Its the goalposts/crossbar/nets that must not be moving. If it was the goalkeeper not allowed to move how could they be jumping!

Just seems daft to me, micromanaging every aspect of the game is further spoiling it in my opinion!

Personally I think the players should be able to celebrate where they like as long as they stay on the pitch and if the fans have been giving them some stick, they should be able to give some back.

On those new rules, I'm going to wait to see if the goalkeeper rules for penalties will be enforced for all. Odds on it's one of the smaller sites who will be punished for it first, and then it'll die out over the season due to it not being implemented by referees. Given VAR is coming in, it should be an easy one, but they'll bottle it.

So now a keeper can't move? Just award the goal, you may as well. In fact just outlaw keepers entirely. Inconvenient contrary bastards stopping goals, how dare they.

Rather than getting rid of the contested drop ball, I'd prefer if they got rid of kicking the ball out because some bellend is lying around pretending to be hurt (Or at least have VAR look at the injury feigning and hand out yellow cards for it). It should be up to the ref to stop the game.

The keeper can move - see my post 12 above. In fact, the new rule is slightly better for the keeper as he can move one foot forward - he only has to have one foot on or in line with the line.

The one I see causing most problems will be the goal kicks and the ball being in play as soon as the keeper touches it. . Imagine Alison trying a quick kick at Anfield and Sharp intercepts the pass inside the boxand nets it .the kop will be in uproar.

I guess if you do "any contact between hand/arm and ball = foul" then you'll get teams deliberately trying to flick the ball into defenders' hands in the box. I like this change, it removes a handful of controversial goals scored without leading to a million penalties for accidental handball.

Sorry if you're being tongue in cheek and this is a whoosh moment, but that's exactly the kind of situation fans will want to see surely? You'll end up with the better teams having their CBs come right into the six yard box to get a short pass from the GK and play from there. Bear in mind the defending team will still need to start outside the penalty area until the ball is kicked.

In theory it should lead to more space for the team in possession, and also the potential for more turnovers high up the pitch which will lead to more chances. Plus, it'll stop the sneaky time-wasting trick teams have started doing of deliberately touching a pass from the GK inside their own box, thus leading to a re-taken goal kick.

With the "goalkeepers can't move" one - I wonder if the author has misinterpreted this or not been completely clear. It says that the law is intended to address gamesmanship; I understood it to be that the keeper can't dance around on the line trying to put the taker off (same reason you can no long whack the crossbar to make it shake as a lot of keepers do). The actual IFAB changes say:

Surely that just means you have to "be in position" as a keeper (so not dancing around from post to post) with the leeway of being able to take a step in anticipation as the kick is about to be taken (so basically what happens now), not that you must stand exactly in the middle of the posts and remain completely stationary through the whole thing.
