Five of my favourite ever goals (away)

As mentioned Zico's V Southampton would be in there as well. Didn't he score another scorcher in that game?

I think he scored another one like it in the game either before or after earning the nickname. That was the peak of his career, those two games. We sold him to Wrexham I think.

I seem to remember Gannon scoring a screamer against Southampton in the same match, with his right foot as well.

Good call Rev - That was an awesome strike. First ever away game as a nipper and still one of my all time favourite blades goals.

Vas Borbokis v Notts County FA Cup 1999
Typical quality free kick into the top corner. I think it may have drew us level in injury time which made it all the better

The Borbokis goal was on 23/1/99. It actuall brought us back to 1-1 ealy on in the game, County then went into a 3-1 lead which they held until the 85th min. Holdsworth and Marcelo then scored to send the game into extra time and Marcelo got the winner in ET.

Lake did get two goals in that Southampton game. The second was another one from distance, but it was a soft shot that the goalie would have easily saved, had it not taken an outrageous deflection and gone into the opposite corner of the goal. Though the goal was given to Lake, some might say it was properly an OG.

Lake had a purple patch when he scored 5 goals in 7 games in Jan-Feb 92. 2 others were good ones - another long ranger at Forest on 1/2/92 and a dipping lob from a narrow angle at home to Man City on 8/2/92. Those were his only goals for United and he went to Wrexham in March 93.

The Gannon goal was in the Forest game, not the Southampton one.

I should shut up, my memory is too shit for this.

Aside from THE goal, which was Bob Atkins at Rotherham. A few others were:

TC away at Everton in mid 70s to win, I think 3-2. My Dad insisting on going, as a know nowt youth I thought we'd lose so didn't want to go, he thought we'd get something. What did I know :)

During the season in Division 4 there were several:

Any of the 4 at Peterborough

The winner at Northampton, can't for the life of me remember who got it

Kenworthy penalty at Halifax to equalise. Remembered because the wall fell on me and knackered my leg as that went in.

There must be more from that season

The 5 we scored against Burnley at Wemberleee........... ;)

Wake up Gert we've won ! :D

Steadinho at Blackburn - the only away goal I saw in the Prem
Nuddy at Blackburn - just after the 2-0 win at the Sty, fantastic solo effort
Kabba at Bradford when we won 5-1
Jags' winner at Watford in 05/06
David Carney at Bolton in the Cup, a win on Raulitos first away trip

Nuddy at Blackburn - just after the 2-0 win at the Sty, fantastic solo effort

Sorry to go all Darren on you :), but it was after the 2-1 win at the Sty wasn't it? :D

I was going to mention this one... but sadly it brings back memories of us potentially kick-starting the over-used and now annoying trend of Blades using Tom Hark.

We ended up spending most of the last 25 minutes singing Peter Ndlovu (before it had become popular) with a few of the lads performing the most ridiculous dance to it :) Much to the bemusement of those around us :)

You've just trashed my Dazzler-bait!!!

I think a million of your points transferred across may begin to slightly ease my fury.

Well, as you've started it...

Cooper said that Ullathorne got sent off in the game where Sarba scored in th last minute at WBA. It was Shane Nicholson (remember him? no? i'm not surprised). Ullathorne was sent off the season before at WBA in the 2-1 defeat.

I think both goals against Northampton in the fourth division season were headers by Trusson. Both were very late in the game and were very similar goals.

I recall it being a pretty cold evening. There had been a few snow flurries and we had played very poorly all game. Northampton were struggling badly in the division at that time, but were playing better than us. They went a goal up. Not sure when. Time was running out and we seemed to have lost. I remember a frustrated supporter near me yelling out, "For God's sake, send on Boycott!!"

Then I think it was Steve Neville broke away down the wing, sent over a cross for Trusson to head in. Trusson timed his run perfectly and nooone seemed to pick him up. There could barely have been any time left at that stage, but we still managed to score again. My memory may be a bit confused, but I remember it as being another Trusson header from a virtually identical move to the first.

Really enjoyed reading these.

Has anyone mentioned Booker at QPR? Hugely disappointed I didn't mention that one or Marwood at Everton in the same season that a few have talked about.

That little terrace behind the goal looked brilliant when packed on TV. Hodges got the equaliser.

I also really enjoyed a Deane goal at Bradford. Fjortoft struck a belter against the bar and Deane forced the rebound in. We only drew that night but that side was great to watch for a few months anyway.

Thought I'd share some happy memories of mine. Goals against Wednesday are not included. I'm not talking about the best goals in terms of technique etc - I'm just talking about the general combination of factors that go towards creating fabulous footballing memories.

It's time to remember why I love SUFC. Must confess the dates around 2000-2002 all roll into one.

Be interested if anyone else was there and be interested in hearing others.

Deane versus Derby County 1990.
Hard to describe the joy I felt when that went in. Probably the best headed goal I have ever seen. Last minute equaliser, against Shilton and Derby could not believe it had happened.

Deane versus Leicester 1990
The best scramble ever and incredible scenes. I was just too young to fully enjoy that evening in terms of getting bladdered but will never forget that goal. Suppose I should exclude Leicester as all five could be included.

Asaba versus WBA 2002 (I think)
Must confess I can't remember the date but I can remember a backs to wall effort, huge WBA pressure against 10 men and an amazing run and shot by Pesch. Don't think I've ever seen a set of fans as pissed off as WBA were that afternoon. I can also remember The Vine boozer which had a huge Indian grill at the back. Arguably best pre-match boozer ever.

Tonge versus Wolves 2002
Correction. Wolves fans were extremely pissed off. Always nice beating them and this was very sweet in my opinion. Extremely dangerous outside and felt like sitting duks. Lucky to get a cab back to car on other side of town.

Katchouro versus Wolves
I was sat next to the divide between the home and away end. I can see now a Wolves fan pissing him self singing 'all gone quiet' after their equaliser pointing at me. Time stood still for a split second before everyone realised what Kat had done.

Honourable mentions to a Santos goal at QPR and Armstrong goal at Hull.

That Asaba goal was vintage Warnock. Amazing.

Geary vs Millwall a few years back would be one of mine. We were up against it with Jags in goal for the second half and the Pocket Rocket popped up with a screamer.

Also Gray at Arsenal in 2005 and Stead against Charlton in 2007. I also have a dim memory of Adrian Littlejohn scoring a great goal against Arsenal in the early 90's, anyone?

Before my time but Im surprised some of the seniors havent gone for Bob Hatton at Millmoor.

Gray against Arsenal was quality. Remember it was a real lads crowd at Highbury, everyone pished up. The Arsenal sat near our end looked like they'd not seen anything like it - true bundles all over the place after the goal, people standing on seats, amazing stuff. Good atmosphere on the Clock End, wish I'd been around when it was terraced. :D:D:D

100% correct!!

Ive got some quality photos of that day. Once I get my head round using a scanner Ill post them on here.

I also remember Deane scoring away at Villa in our nightmare run of results in 1990. It was the first goal wed scored in 8 hours of football or something and youd think wed won the cup from the celebrations. We still lost 2-1 though.

An odd one but didnt we have a goal disallowed against Reading in August? We celebrated and when the ref waved for a free kick the Reading fans started an ironic celebration of their own. When we did get another goal their keeper spooning it into their net was shown about 15 times on their big screen each time greeted with our own ironic cheers. I hate Reading so got alot of enjoyment out of that.

You could well be right!

Wrong match! I was right with Hoult ;)

From the Sporting Life

Bit of schadenfreude for you though Santos. My horse has just fallen at the last about eight lenths clear at Thurles, buggering up my betting day. Suppose I'd best go and look after the ill females now ...

Quite possibly. The fact that I cant remember jack shit has been proven beyond doubt on this thread.

It was Vinnie. 1/12/90. It was our first league goal since Barnes scored in the 1-2 defeat at home to Wimbledon on 6/10/90 - we had failed to score in the subsequent 6 league games.

In our first 16 league games that season only Jones, Deane and David Barnes scored - Deane 4, Jones 2, Barnes 1

Keith Addy to beat Man Utd at Old Trafford about 1974. Surprising 'cos it was no big deal at the time, impossible now. I think Man U may have been relegated at the end of that season.

It was Keith Eddy and it was on Easter Monday 1973. A powerful shot from outside the box to the roof of the net. It was Bobby Charlton's last home game for Man U. Early in the game our debutant, Steve Faulkner, made a dreadful back pass allowing Brian Kidd to sneak in and give Man U the opener, Bill Dearden equalised just before half time. Had a look in WHS Smiths on Monday this week browsing Bobby Charlton's new book of photos in his footballing career and he recalled that TC was "outstanding" in that match and he said TC was expected to replace him in midfield for the following season but it was not to be.

Man U got relegated in 1974 and Woody's late winner in another 2-1 at Old Trafford in Boxing Day 1973 (didnt realise that it was one of George Best's last two or three games for Man U) was memorable to. He broke away clear, Alex Stepney ran out of his goal to make himself big, Woody placed the ball past the keeper and the ball bounced slowly a few times to the far post, the crowd held their breath, and the silence was broken by the joyful Blades fans after the ball hit the inside of the post before going into the net

good thread this

my favourites

Asaba's last minute winner at West Brom-i was hugging the bloke next to me when we scored(never met him before or since)-my three kids were looking at me in disbelief .do you know him dad? Should we tell mum ?

Edwards last minute equaliser at Bury(Jeff king cross I think)..4th division season.absolute bedlam, pitch invasion, must have been 4k-5k Blades for a Tuesday night match.I went to the game against mymum's wishes(I was 16 and still at school).I got such a bollocking when I got home.

Akinbiyi v pigs- what a half time celebration

Atkins v Rotherham- the railway end was surely over full that day and the crowd just swayed all the time

Jones at Villa- the away end went mad-it was still standing on the away end I think and fans were just falling over each other.

Sharp v Barnsley- in the snow, rain etc.phoned my daughter just after he score(she was at Dover waiting to travel over to france)-she said she couldn't here me,just the Billy Sharp song.It was so loud she put it on load speaker on the phoned for everyone to hear (and to rub it in to the piggies on the coach)

and honourable mentions to

Webber v Newcastle- not just the goal, but one of the best away supports I have ever been part of.Non stop singing. great night

Brown v Forest- that wait for the penalty to be taken was one of the most tense moments I have ever felt in a game. right in front of us. the release across all the Blades when he equalised from the spot was unbelievable especially as it was so soon after Johnson had scored for them.

Arnott at Southend-crap match,wonder goal,massive celebration

Jags away at Brighton, promotion season

Brazil like football, 5 touches 4 of them are passes 3 players involved the 5th touch is the goalscoring one.

Webber v Geordies

The 2,000 blades that made the trip to Newcastle, then the longer trip up the never ending stairs will remember this one for a long while. No goal away from home, no win away from home, outplay the mags infront of 48,000 of their own, who were very quiet until after the game. Loudest 20 minutes of 'oh when the Blades' i have heard, only interrupted by the goal!

Stead v Charlton

If anyone listened to this match on telly or radio, you would have thought UTD were at home, really good day on the pop aswell.

BT away at Blackpool

They just scored and were living it up, until BT lumped a hit and hope shot from 25 yards which the keep fumbled into the net, cleverly spotted a charging steward running towards me before i ran on the pitch!

Sharp v dingles

It was just nice.

Howard v PNE

Completely dominated the game, I also, really detest Preston, which made it great to take the piss being sat only about 15 yards away from them at the back.

Brian Gayle (thumping header at the Trent End) and Glyn Hodges in front of thousands of Blades at Forest - 90/91.
Brilliant sunshine (it helps!), holiday mood and Cloughie's last game.
The day ended with the most manic train journey I've ever been on, but I'll save that for a 'Most manic train journey I've ever been on' thread :p

Andy Walker scoring the equaliser to send us to Wembley .... I enjoyed that long journey back

I think most of mine have been mentioned already but a slightly unusual one would be Gareth Taylor's last minute equaliser at Bolton in 1998. Not sure why but that one sticks with me in terms of how happy it made me. Can't remember much about the goal although I seem to recall it being scrappy. What I can remember is that Bolton absolutely destroyed us from the off and should've been out of sight at half time. We had the Stone Roses on in the car as we queued to get out of the car park and whenever I hear the line 'so good to have equalised' in Waterfall, it takes me back to that day.

Has anyone mentioned Webber's at Cardiff? That was a strange one for me. A poor game and the celebrations in the ground probably weren't fitting for the magnitude of the goal. It was a bit of a slow burner really, it sunk in during the train journey home and by the time we were getting reprimanded by the piggy landlord in the Banner Cross for singing, I was absolutely flying. I always look back on Unsworth's goal at home to Hull as the one that did it that season, even though it wasn't.

Our 3rd in the 4-3 defeat at Elland Road would be up there in terms of best away end celebrations, that was a proper surge.

Some cracking memories in this thread, particularly Stead at Charlton - what a day that was. One that's been mentioned a lot that it isn't a great memory for me is Atkins' winner at Millmoor. It was my first ever away game and we left early to avoid me getting squashed leaving the ground. Assume there are no TV pictures from the game? I have a still photo somewhere of Atkins striking it, that's as close as I've come to seeing it!
