Alex Scott is a knowledgeable and likeable pundit anyway, but she's leagues ahead of the Scouse peanut Danny Murphy, Paul "ESL" Ince, and the human equivalent of a self assembly pine bookcase from Argos, Jermaine Jenas, and don't get me started on Sky's lot.

Nevermind Alex Scott, I'd rather have Barry Scott that those muppets.

My criticism isn’t about him as a person and I don’t mind him on FF, it’s really about BBC Breakfast and the constant giggling and in jokes between the (mainly female) presenters and he’s amongst the worst, Charlie Stait and Jon Kay don’t do it. As for the daily love in between them and Carol, who does the weather, it’s almost as unwatchable as last week’s Question Time.

I don’t claim perfection in any area of my life, but I’d like the occasional bit of serious journalism in amongst the fluff and inanity.
 
Just managed to watch FF all the way down under (hooky stream ) and Sir Chris was a breathe of fresh air. Quite a nice panel actually,, Alex knows her stuff and Jernaine Jenas likeable.

The Allez Allez clip brought a tear to my eye and I now fancy proper sheff fish & chips.

I just watched it. Wilder came across well, but it made me realise what we will have to put up with next season. Glossy, fawning coverage concentrating on "United", "City" Liverpool, Arsenal Spurs and Chelsea. Endless montages of their goals to trendy dance or hip hop soundtracks, interspersed with the voices of giddy commentators. At least one feature on anti-racism, charity fundraising or women's football. Reading out people's vacuos tweets. No mention of any other English football competition (as they don't have the rights to show the goals). At least NBC is a bit better, and there will be other options for coverage and discussion next season.

Just watched it, well fast forward the bits not including CW, and thought our leader came over very well indeed.

Two Steps was at it's best middle 70's to middle 80'. Can't remember the name of the people who ran it(i was only a nipper) , but it was a mother and her son, she had black curly hair.
There used to be queues right along Sharrow Vale Rd on a Friday before they even opened.
There was another chip shop bang opposite called Dale's, while it was ok, people would sooner queue for Two Steps rather than walk straight in Dale's and get served straightaway.
I think the Two Step owners sold up in the Mid to late 80's. They used to do a great cornish pastie and chips, and I have never found anywhere that did Rissoles like they did, but it was their Fish n Chips that were the best
Still never found a chip shop to beat Two Steps for Fish n Chips from those days. Nearest I have found today is Tonys at Mossbrough.

We always were told that he was known as the "The Welsh man"

Can't remember where it came from tbh - think we were told just to go there as the fish and chips were excellent - which they were.

We are talking early/mid 80's when we moved into Greystones.

Just watched it on BBC IPlayer, think they make it available for 7 days only.

As expected Wilder comes across really well, he has similarities to Klopp in that he knows how to balance jokes against seriousness.
Also agree that Alex Scott is one of the better studio pundits and she has a beautiful face for tv.

Funny, I did the same. This is supposed to be the BBC's top football programme, along with match of the day. Even the coverage of the two amazing CL finals was crap. I'd rather see a normal camera angle than the low touchline angle they use for the replays of the goals (which, of course, can't be shown with just crowd noise, you need loud "beatz" too). The discussion pretty much like "Just how good were Liverpool"? Barcelona had the greater skill, but Liverpool had passion. I'm not saying Liverpool don't have skill too, but they did it without their two best players. Is their name on the trophy this year? Isn't Klopp great".

And I didn't give a shit about the female german referee either.

Alex Scott talks a lot of sense and is very experienced in the women's game. She does seem a little too media trained though, if anyone else sees that? Her responses are a bit more coached, whereas Wilder's are from heart but just civil and well articulated.

Jermaine Jenas, I'm usually a fan of. Of those they have on there, he's honest and straight talking and doesn't shirk an opinion, instead of pedalling out the same old tired clichés that Lawrenson and Hansen got paid far too much for, for far too long. That said, yesterday, it was interesting to watch him when Wilder was talking. At times he almost appeared disinterested, dismissive. Listen, lad - this bloke has achieved more in football management than most, including you, ever will. I think his side and our football will take you and the league by surprise next season - and I'm not convinced you'll have concerned yourself too much with how we play/watching us yet. He's the newcomer to the panel Jermaine, but considerably more experienced in football than you are.

Oh, and in response to your snide remark "surely you're centre halves won't overlap still?"... We'll do what the **** we want Jermaine, we aren't here to fanny abaht!

Jermaine Jenas is a great fit for the Beeb. Comes across as smart, clean-cut, and not too opinionated. Of course it helps that he's from a minority background

Glad it's not just me who thinks he's a bit of a twat.
 
Really enjoyed watching that. It's starting to feel as if things have changed since promotion. Loved seeing the club crest dominating the big screen in the background! :D

Thought Wilder was a great antidote to the current BBC landscape: Earthy, honest, possessing humility, grounded, old school yet progressive. How many people involved in football today get the bus to work?!?!?! It's like something out of the 60's, but people will love him for it.

It reminds me of reading Shankly's & Clough's biographies, where they both talk about an era when lads who could play a bit had a chance of escaping their working destinies down the pit or in heavy industry. They were lucky, lucky boys & that's still a powerful & humbling message today. Don't forget your roots but try to move forwards. I Wonder what they're (the BBC & MOTD) going to make of him & the team next season? Think they'll be bewildered at times (do you like what i did there?! :D)

Well observed re; Alex Scott. Remember that cliched soundbite she dropped in? "Hard work will always beat talent when talent fails to work hard." Like you say, far too scripted/coached & of course ticking all the BBC BAME/gender boxes.

I quite like Jermaine Jenas, he's very articulate & talks (mostly) sense. It's funny but i didn't interpret his comment on the overlapping centre backs as snide at the time (might have to have another look!) ... more like amazement/disbelief, "never seen anything like it."

It's going to be interesting to see how MOTD's coverage of the Blades evolves as the season progresses, especially if they surpass expectations...

Just shows how people think differently.
Thought it was an excellent comment because let’s be honest, in theory overlapping centre backs shouldn’t really work
But we see it work and our defence don’t seem to get caught on the break.

Unless you see it in action this “overlapping centre back” tactic seems crazy
And of course using common sense and logic, there’s no chance it can work in the Premier league.
Surely teams just need to break quickly and our centre backs will be caught out of position?

But we all know that Wilder can seem to do the impossible, think we’ll still use this tactic at home.
Can’t wait for the comments from the media when we technically out play teams in the PL.

Think the media will love us this season, unlike some times in the past. I think his honesty and humour will be well received

I reckon Dan Walker will be the only friend we’ll have next season.........once we start beating teams we shouldn’t be beating. They all like to stroking the little chihuahua until it bites your finger.
