So we need to sign about 12 players then. Thought Wilder said no recking ball? Going to be a very interesting/exciting summer this one.

Of the first 18 though, apart from loans who may come back, only Cranie, Coutts, and Washington are off and two of those weren't guaranteed a place on the bench.

He was the most influential of a midfield the likes of which we could only dream of previously.

That midfield is what made us special and set off this remarkable rise.

Had that injury not happened we would have at least made the play offs with ease. He was in his pomp and looked every inch a PL player.

I hope he gets a good move now because I'm confident that with playing time he can get back to a high level.

This, absolutely this.

With the class and form of Norwood it's easier to forget how integral he was for us. He was pivotal to establishing the style of play that has brought us so much success!

You're absolutely right, that Coutts, Fleck and Duffy midfield was the stuff of dreams previously, we should never take it for granted.

Apparently only Deano coming back so that's 7 straight away required plus squad support from the rest made available. I can see 10 coming in.

Wilder has been ruthless, I'd have kept Cranie and Coutts for sentiments sake.

GLTTL's.

Paul coutts is one of the finest footballers to have graced the lane in my 50yrs of watching , the holy trinity of coutts, fleck and Duffy , in my opinion the best midfield trio . I will miss him and will always appreciate what he did for us in our hour of need. Paul Coutts you are a true hero of the lane

Thank you sincerely Sir Paul of Coutts. Passing Coutts Court every morning will raise a smile at the effort you put in and the pivotal role you played in the adoption and evolution of our unique style.

GLTTL in its purest form.

one of the best player's ever to put on that red and white shirt will miss his calmness speed of thought and precision passes fleck and Duff's have missed him already blades legand

Think 99% are in agreement with you. Nature of the business though isn't it unfortunately. I'm sure Cranie will sign with a good Championship team, I hope Coutts ends up somewhere that is going to suit his game and get him back to where he was. It'd be great to see him playing as he was prior to his injury.

Was always gonna happen one day :(.

Real pity that his Blades career really kinda fizzled out at a time when success on the pitch was beyond amazeballs !!

To say I’m gutted about this would be a huge understatement.

A fit and ready Coutts would have been a tremendous asset to us in the PL. Of that I have NO doubt. But the question that we have all asked is does that guy still exist ?

Wilder has given us the only answer that is of any relevance, and that matters.

All that remains to be said is that Coutts was and is one of the most influential players I have ever seen pull on a Blades shirt. I will follow his career with interest and hope he can manage to get back to his mercurial best.

Wherever that may be, I for one would gladly pay to watch :)

Good luck fella.

I had a long post typed but then I lost it.

Which is a fucker.

But suffice to say that Coutts is a genuine bloke as well as a top class footballer, and I'm can't even begin to start explaining how gutted I am he won't be in the red and white stripes any more.

Good luck Couttsy. You'll never ever be forgotten.

Measure of the Man he wants to play rather than take the easy route of the bench and an occasional 10 mins in the Prem.
Not really, he’s been released. He hasn’t asked to be released. A steward would have to tackle him if he tried to get on the bench or the pitch.

According to this video Wilder said Coutts wants to play regular football and wilder can’t guarantee it, so bit of a mix

Yeah CW says its probably the hardest decision he's had to make but Coutts wanted regular football that he couldn't guarantee.

Unfortunately I will not have the pleasure of watching the Holy Trinity of Coutts, Fleck and Duffy again in Blades colours. At their peak they were up there with Currie ,Salmons and Hockey as a midfield three.

Hopefully PC will be offered a contract by Clough so that he can finish his days playing with his best mate Brayford. They owe him one because of that sad day in November 2017 that robbed us of promotion.

Good luck Paul Coutts never to be forgotten always remember that day in September when he never gave the ball away.

We've had one hell of a journey this past 3 years. Who knows where it will all end. Paul Coutts, however, was genesis to it all. Everything we now enjoy watching traces back to him coming back in from the cold and literally stamping his foot on the ball and saying *this* is how we now play football.

Blades legend. Up there with the best of them.
I can happily admit to welling up reading that.

No mean feat !!!!!

Bravo sir :).

Seems like Coutts knew he had to go for the good of his career as he wants to play football. That's hard to take but understandable.

I couldn't have released Cranie though, like shutting a puppy out in the rain.

Good Luck Paul, thanks for the memories from the League one Champions season and that magic start last year.

Thanks Couttsy. Seeing you and Fleck and Duffy all on song was an absolute treat. All the best mate.

Very sad to let Couttsy go, I remember the first I saw of him in centre midfield with Fleck & Duffs I started to believe again in the Blades after years of disappointment. He was just class, a central pivotal member of that Holy Trinity that deserved a much larger stage than League One. Thanks for the memories Paul, one of the best in a Blades shirt for many a year.

Fantastic player, but a bit of a lost soul under previous regimes until CW assembled the other components of the Trinity alongside him. We then had 18 months of the very best of him, and one of the best midfields we've had for a very long time.

Good luck Paul, wherever you go, which I hope is somewhere who deserves you. I will always remember you as one of our finest, and I am a fan of 60 years standing. ( Well, more sitting these days :))

Currie, Woodward, Hagan, Joe Shaw, Needham...... and Coutts?

Have you been drinking?

sad news but i think i said this 2 yrs ago the price of success. some players we love have to go, just like Matty Done & Stefan Scougall in league 1. like them i wish them all the best. coutts was integral part of that team as much as Norwood is now until burton

sad to see cranie go as well been a fantastic player for us & got in that back 3 on merit many times. if angels is how he says goodbye is nice way

Like Jesus Christ he will rise again, as he did when Sir Chris transfer listed him when he arrived ... but sadly not for us :( lots of love and kisses Couttsy
